Just how bad is this game?
>>
Legitimately awful. The only sequel that drops the ball this hard I can think of is MGS 4.
>>
>>383031638
I liked MGS4
>>
>>383031717
Me too.
>>
>>383031317
It's good. Loading screens do ruin the pacing a bit yet no one will ever mention that because they'd rather bandwagon on the complete non-issues. Still, it's a solid game and has some incredibly fun and diverse gameplay mechanics that no other Deus Ex game has managed to top.
>>
>>383031717
>>383031847
Then you might be just retarded enough to enjoy Invisible War too. Try it out.
>>
>>383031317
It's a 6/10, more than fine, as good as Halo 2/3, play it if you enjoyed the first one
>>383031638
>>383031989
Kill yourself, Warren.
>>
>>383031317
It's not that bad a game, it's basically just a dumbed down Deus Ex. The fact that it was also released on console caused it to have a lot of limitations. Ross Scott's review of it covers it pretty well, but there's some spoilers at the end.
>>
>>383032167
I left a comment on Warren's normie book about how all the Invisible War hate is unjust and he liked it.

I, personally, liked it. It had nice atmosphere and universal ammo wasn't that big of a deal. The game had some cool weapons/upgrades, like the one that turned glass to dust and allowed you to sneak in apartments without sounding the alarm.
>>
>>383031958
This really The game was actually a decent 7/10
The story was great, the gameplay was good say for a few bugs and loading screens everywhere. It was also good in that it wasn't a cliffhanger ending nor was it a ''push button receive final ending'' end.
I'd say it was a 7/10 worth the 5$
>>
as someone who played it last year
>the game is short as shit compared to DX1, like 7 hours long which is pretty cool since thats about how much of the game you will be able to stand
>breaking up areas into sections pretty much ruined the game gameplay wise
>graphics are fugly, this gen aged like shit. DX1 is more easy on the eyes
>ambient music is really good
>punching people with the baton is good
>the augs are actually pretty fun but you get so little
>the story is pants on head retarded
>seriously
>the ties into JC denton and the first game is so fucking bad its good
>>
>>383031958

This, the gameplay mechanics are fun ,too bad the game areas are minuscule, and the game is too short

Also the performance issues on PC even using fan patches.
>>
It was so unbelievably bad I was mesmerized by the entire thing and beat it in one sitting. Granted that's not the hardest accomplishment since the games like 5 hours long. I challenge you to not be irritated whenever the game closes and reopens itself on an area transition (which happens every few feet).
>>
>>383031317
You can play as girl character
>>
>>383031317
Don't play it/10
Making it multiplatform killed this game.
>>
>>383031317
Core gameplay is kinda still there, but really dumbed down, like 80% of first game is gone. Even all new shit that they brought in did not helped, sometimes even made it worse. And story with setting dont make any sense more that ever. Also shit music.
>>
Errant Signal explains it pretty well

If anyone ever asks you "How are consoles bad for gaming?" just show them this.

It is pretty good for a console game, though. Its predecessor set an impossible standard, so everyone is gonna hate.
>>
>>383031317
Depends. If you played it back in the day on xbox it was great. I wasn't a jaded asshole yet.
>>
>>383034568
Deus Ex is on PS2 and it is a pretty good port. Played it last year on PS3. Just a "WTO did you know".
>>
>>383031317
It isn't completely awful. Your options are more restricted, the areas are too small, there's loading screens everywhere. It's deeply, deeply flawed and flops as a sequel to Deus Ex.
It is, however, quire enjoyable. There are still plenty of ways to do things and it's get a very sleek interface. If you are playing it expecting a run of the mill FPS, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Basically, just anticipate a 6 or a 7/10 rather than a real Deus Ex game and you'll probably enjoy yourself.
>>
>>383034985
it's pretty botched compared to PC version but I'll take a cut down deus ex port over invisible war any day of the week

I still stand in awe of the fact that this stupid game even exists. The creator of one of the most celebrated games of all time makes a sequel to one of the most celebrated games of all time, and we got this dumpster fire.

Somehow I knew there was something wrong with the game from the moment I noticed there wasn't even weapon reloading. And it only got worse.

It's not bad at all. I played it at launch and it was pretty well received at the time. Around the early to mid 00's, every game franchise was forced by publishers to undergo "streamlining" wherein the complexity of the game is reduced to make it more accessible to the widest audience possible. This is the beginning of the time when we start to see things like one button combat and "awesome" buttons. Invisible War is still much more complex than most big games published today, but compared to the previous installment it was less complex, and the overall experience was more restrictive. It was a little unsatisfying for fans, and still too complex for the Halo crowd.

I know Invisible War gets trashed a lot, but keep in mind that most of the people doing this are younger gamers who didn't play it at release and are judging it against the best examples of the genre. You see something similar with Half-Life 2, which was absolutely revolutionary at the time, but has been rendered entirely mundane by its influence on future game. At the time, Deus Ex IW was a really good looking game with a cool physics engine and a fun, if slightly restrictive, world.

Make no mistake, Deus Ex: Invisible War is still a Deus Ex game, and it's still a ton of fun. It's just not quite as good as the first. That said, it's not a bad game, and, frankly, at least as good as Human Revolution.
>>
>>383034985
The controls were an absolute clusterfuck. The graphics were somehow made even worse, it needs to load just as frequently as Invisible War and they got rid of the grid-based inventory and segmented health.
Still... impressive. I heard you could use mouse and keyboard but I was never able to try.
>>
>>383031317
It's a fine game on its own, biggest problem is being a sequel to Dude Sex. Those are big shoes to fill.
The world building was interesting, and I like the final island. I liked saying fuck everyone and going for the OMAR ending.

Reminds me of a bioware RPG.
>>
>>383031317
Imagine Deux Ex if it was designed from day one to be dumbed down for console's.
>>
>>383031317
It's actually not that bad. It just has a terrible reputation it doesn't deserve because it's not as good as the first game.
>>
>>383032582
I think universal ammo was one of the biggest blunders of this game. Really discourages you from using heavy weapons as they drain all your ammo in seconds and thus leave you in trouble.
>>
Go play Deus Ex: The Fall first.

Then play Invisible War and you'll be like 'yeah this game not so bad'

Forgot to mention that the majority of annoyances in the game: smaller map size, tons of loading screens etc., are the result of the publisher forcing the developer to design primarily for consoles. Keep in mind that the XBox only had 64MB of ram.
>>
>>383036598
I can't believe I actually bought that garbage.
>>
>>383035332
>>383035121

Oh yeah PC is best ofcourse but I'm amazed at the wizardry devs could do back then.

>>383035310
If Deus Ex came out today /v/ would hate it. Pretty complicated story and dialogue heavy. Games have been dumbed down and not just in the gameplay department.
>>
>>383036896
/v/ would love Deus Ex just as much if it came out today. It has incredibly open-ended gameplay and not in the phony open world way.

Mind you thats how the hud looks ALL THE TIME, its not that its in some item selection mode, it looks like that in game
>>

Deus Ex was on the PS2 dumbass
>>
>>383032740
>graphics are fugly, this gen aged like shit. DX1 is more easy on the eyes

I think on the contrary that the graphics on Invisible War were and still are actually quite nice. Whereas the first Deus Ex clearly looks like it could have come out in 90s and has a somewhat retro vibe to it Invisible War feels more modern graphics (and unfortunately gameplay) wise. The dynamic lighting effects still hold up nicely.
>>
>>383038368
HUD's like that were really popular at the time.
>>
>>383031317
Why did the PC version have to close and reopen the exe just to transition to new areas?
>>
>>383038825
Because it was a rushed slapdash release.

It was primarily developed for the Xbox. See >>383038209.

>>383032740
You can't play older games and expect the things that evolved after and as a result of them.
>DX1 is more easy on the eyes
Let me guess, you downloaded a High Resolution Texture pack? Maybe even an unofficial patch?
>>
>>383038671

MP2 hud is not half as intrusive as IW hud. Also, IW was mostly a PC game, and PC monitors at the time were much smaller

Everything in MP2 hud is located at the edges of the screen whereas the IW hud even had things in the middle
