What made the first two Max Payne games so good and replayable to this day?
>>383025198
Metaphors, painkillers and mirrors.
3 was bretty gud but felt too exotic.
>>383025198
The gameplay is simple but very fun and unique, the style is excellent, the sharp phototextures still look very nice. It doesn't have many elements that can actually age.
>>383025442
Too exotic? In what way? I found it quite mundane and plain.
>>383025442
3 was shit, it was full of glitches and unskippable cutscenes and shitty game design choices.
>tfw mp is still the best tps even after 15 years of its release
>>383025549
I meant the setting; going from New York to Brazil was a much needed shot in the arm but it felt forced.
But when you stop and think about it, it had to be someplace that Max would never fit in and be the opposite of what he was used to. Sunny, exotic, nature, etc.
Gunplay was tight and TEARS was dank though.
>>383025821
>TFW every time I look in a mirror I make a squinty Max Payne face.
>TFW I've been doing it for 14 years.
>TFW it's still hilarious and make me laugh.
>>383026137
I found Brazil to be quite ugly looking though.
And I wasn't fan of the environments or the story at all.
>>383026383
My low brightness amigo.
I feel the same way but even though it is the weakest of the series, I felt that the game was needed to truly give Max closure.
>>383026808
Max did have closure though, you got it in 2 when you finished the game on highest difficulty.
>>383026137
>Gunplay was tight
It looked nice but it controlled like absolute garbage. The problem with those Euphoria experiments was that it just wasn't very fun to control due to sluggish movement and constant delays between pressing the button and getting a response on the screen.
Is Max the best noir game?
>>383025198
what makes all good action games timeless.
responsive/solid mechanics, and good level design. the story is just a bonus.
>>383025442
Ive tried so many ways to defend 3. But i realized the game totally sucks. The worst part is the ending. 1 had a good ending with Max and Andrew both with a grin and 2 was pure kino.
>"I had a dream of my wife... She was dead, but it was alright.."
Still sends shivers to my spine
But in 3 we are supposed to believe that Max redeems himself with some brazilian guy getting whacked on prison? Fuck you, Rockstar.
>>383025198
Better writing and setting than 3, skippable cutscenes. Also felt less railroady imo even though all games are basically a straight line
>>383027425
>less railroady
hallway with enemies, cutscene, hallway with enemies, cutscene, hallway with enemies, cutscene..
>>383026946
Are you talking about Mona possibly surviving?
Na, she has to die; she's too much of a reminder of every Max had to go through to get where he is.
Max had no choice but to literally lose every and try to make a fresh start; of course he'd fail due to ghosts haunting him but in the end he was able to finally let go.
>>383027803
Dan Houser, go away.
>>383027229
I don't think the game was about Max redeeming himself; I think it was about him still struggling to deal with his past and his inability to find any meaning in life.
His scars will never fade but he learns to stop dwelling on them; he's a tragic character.
>>383027229
The problem with 3's storylinewell, was that antagonists just don't make any kind of sense. There's no reason for either Max or the player to feel any kind of emotion towards them.
one of the many
>Max is supposed to be a bodyguard for a guy who's a rich asshole and it's only for the money anyway
>There are favela BRs who're hired by someone to kindap the people he's supposed to protect
>There are strong hints that his brother might be connected with the kidnappers
>Max fails at his job, then some corrupt cops and organ trafficking surfaces, then Max kills them and literally what's the fucking point of that?
It feels like MP3 was just an excuse for Houser to rip off Man on Fire. Max was just shoehorned in because it was an IP Rockstar owns. It's honestly down there with Hitman: Absolution with the games that completely miss the point of their respective characters and series as a whole.
>>383028350
>I think it was about him still struggling to deal with his past and his inability to find any meaning in life.
>His scars will never fade but he learns to stop dwelling on them; he's a tragic character.
Now guess what game had already dealt with that, Max Payne 2.
>>383027907
Just trying to find a silver lining, that's all. The game exists and while it was far from the greatness we got from 1 or 2, I can accept it as the bastard child of the series.
>>383025198
The fac that there isn't a cutscene behind every door.
>>383025198
had a good fap to that image back in the day
>>383029558
>Not just fapping to nude Mona model
>>383029509
That spinning reload doesnt make any sense but its so fucking cool when that happens
>>383029509
there literally was, just they were presented in an interesting and well done way, also they were skippable
>>383029509
Man he aged 20 years in between the first and second games.
The homeless guy and hooker in your apartment providing you with blackup was great though.
>>383029886
Asians hardly age so the actor change really showed.
>>383029807
I really love using it, so fucking flashy.
>>383029828
No there was not, only very few had them and there are a lot of doors.
>>383030139
>Asian
What?
>>383030380
Look at Lake over here >>383025821 he still looks like he's in the mid 20s at worst.
>>383030485
Is Lake an Azn?
>ITS PAYNE
>WHACK EM
>HOLD IT
>all those silly mods
>>383030929
Max Payne 3 was still good and one of the best 3rd person shooters in the last 10 years.
3 had no memorable characters or moments apart from the airport level and that is best remembered for the soundtrack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEH_LSL4rVw
Was Quantum Break any good?
>>383031070
>>383027229
>Max redeems himself with some brazilian guy getting whacked on prison?
huh?
I don't remember anything like that in MP3.
I don't remember a prison at all even. There's a few jail cells when Max 'hands himself in' to the police station, but it's no prison and nobody important dies in it.
>>383031279
A shame it had unskippable cutscenes (and cutscenes every 2 steps in general) that make a second playthrough a drag
>>383025593
>unskippable cutscenes
consoles and toasters only
if you pc is good you can skip then when the loading is complete
>>383030734
I think that he's trying to do the Finns = Mongols joke (Lake is Finnish, his original name is Järvi)
>>383031420
>Fist of the North Payne
>>383031420
>that dude that appears out of nowhere after the vending machine is destroyed
>>383029509
>>383030223
On some StealthgamerBR shit
>>383031530
Holy fucking shit, the game has been out for how many years?
And this dumb LIE which was debunket and utterly fucking shattered days after release is still around?
Quite impressive, repeat lies often enough and dumbshits will tell them like the truth even decades later.
You can skip SOME of them after loading, however there are still plenty which are quite literally hardcoded to not be skippable regardless of your hardware.
>>383028524
I think hitman absolution and MP3 were a result of that weird period in the game dev realm where devs started aspiring to be hip auteur movie directors without having any actual talent or ideas. This is why we had stupid hipster ""grindhouse"" shit like luchadors and latex nuns in hitman and a few other games and why games like max payne and the order decided that they wanted 5 minutes of cutscene for every five minutes of gameplay.
It just doesn't make sense any other way.
Reminder that 3 has the best gameplay of the series.
>>383032549
Houser has always been an idea guy movie reject, he's been ripping off other people's work since GTA 3 yet only received endless praise for being a visionarysimilar to Kojambles.Blystad is an artist (and a good one) who got promoted to a lead position and fucked up massively by being a whiny cunt because that's just how artists are.
The moral of the story is fuck idea guys and fuck artists.
