A shitton of models in Halo 3 are really low poly and hide it with normalmaps everywhere, which in HD just make the vehicles and enemies look they're made out of liquid. Everything in the game has a sheen to it. The skyboxes are still good but the particles, shadows, sounds and models can all be improved.

Take a look at the beta and then look at the final game. The beta is 720p, the final game got a resolution bump to 900p but had downgraded graphics to reach that. Halo 5 will run at 4K now so chances are the game may look far better than even the beta in 2014.
