>experimental build

I'm not starting the whole thing over just to play some experimental build. The shark attacks are broken. I don't even have to be submerged before they swarm me like a pack of fagot bees who saw their first giant dick. I already spent both my fire extinguishers because a bunch of sharks biting the outside of a giant sub made of plasteel somehow causes the interior to catch on fire.

After all the effort you go through to build the stupid thing, it's not even worth it to try an ever leave your base.
>>
>>383005984
You can only load and fire one single decoy.
>>
>>383007498
Did you save it before going there?
I get so paranoid of my game having a rare glitch that I save whenever possible since the last time I forgot to save I glitched through the aurora.
>>
>>383007794
Just make sure you don't try to voice this to the devs, or they'll get really passive aggressive and try to tell you your complaints don't count because they aren't constructive.

Okay I have a problem.
I've been playing without wiki so far, made it through the story to the point where I need to find the underwater alien contamination facility, but still can't build anything bigger than a corridor for a base.
I have the blueprints for a lot of stuff I can't craft, like 2 different kind of submarines and 1 EVA suit, and they just don't show up in the fabricator because I assume I'm gonna need some other tool.
>>
>>383007794
They don't hit for that much unless you just idle with your engine on forever in the same location. Silent Running lasts for 30 seconds and is more than enough to get away from anything. Just stay out of their current spawn locations or use SR/turn engine off if you need to do something there and take the Moth/PRAWN docked in your Cyclops. There's also Decoy Tubes, which I've never used myself because I've never needed them.

>I'm not starting the whole thing over just to play some experimental build
I clearly wasn't saying you should. I merely pointed out it's a known bug and will be corrected in the next stable patch.

>>
>>383008380
>just take these mountain of precautions and stop whining
The problem isn't that the cyclops isn't invincible; it's that you can just hop in your seamoth and outrun literally everything in the game instead of driving around in a massive, clunky bomb that has a bunch of false options as placation for the punishment it incurs just by using it.
Why ever use the cyclops? It's not convenient, it's not safe, and it's definitely not fun.

Dunno the answer to the rest of your post but I'm doing the same. The game is so great when you're playing totally blind. You have to do actual exploration and research to figure out the layout and what to do. Very visceral experience.

I found this last night when trying to find my way out of some hole I went into. Hard to tell from the screen shot but that skeleton is massive.

>>
>>383008879
Not to mention that if you ever try to use the headlights, your visibility gets considerably worse. I played the game a bit last year before they changed the cyclops and it was actually a really useful vehicle. Now it's just a death magnet and an ultimate waste of tons of resources because it's just going to get destroyed if you attempt to do anything meaningful with it.
>>
>>383007861
you can find an upgrade for that. Use silent mode, as soon as sub gets critical damage, shut the engine / lights down and go explore outside + repair the hull
>>
>>383008879
>have specific tools
>I don't want to use those tools
So stick to the Moth/PRAWN then. If you hate the thing so much don't use it.

>>383008871
>how do i get here?
Easiest way is through the Blood Kelp Zone. The one without Crabsquid is a tighter fit for the Cyclops, but it's not that hard and a few bumps won't damage you enough to get through the Overshield.

>build the prawn suit?
In the Aurora you can find all the PRAWN fragments.
>>
>>383009083

Devs suck at balancing their game.
>>
>>383009083
>use the headlights
Lights in general are a disaster currently. They've been tweaking the Cyclops headlights a little at least, so now it's only a 90% blob of white instead of 100%. Likewise with the power consumption for things like Spot/Floodlights, they've mentioned they're tweaking those rates too and the water purification.
>>
>>383009340
>tweaking
Prepare to have 30 solar panels to power your one purification station.
>>
>>383009451
>not just stuffing your face with melons
I don't even care about the water purification, I just want lights that don't drain two thermal generators.
>>
>>383008486
You don't, I mean you should save before you go to an area, so if some odd shit happens you can quit out and reload the game from where you saved.
>>
>>383009451
I thought there was something odd about the power drain from that thing. All it does is produce water and salt chunks.

Also - If I ate all the melons on that island, is there anywhere else to get seeds from? I neglected to save any to plant. I saved the last chinese potato but those aren't nearly as useful.

Power drain in general for certain modules are completely whack. Two spotlights beat out two thermal generators. A single water purifier drains the very stars of their heat just doing it's job.
>>
>>383008337
You need the mobile vehicle bay to build subs. Search inside the wrecks. Also note that theres a bug where fragment progress get reset to 0 when you exit the game. This bug could seriously fuck your playthrough up because you use up all the pieces without completing the blueprint

So, I have a question for those who might've used the portals in the past. So dark. Never needed the Sonar before that because my Cyclops never entered such dark and gloomy places.
>>

the sonar is really handy to have for such areas, even if you just run back and temporarily install it for navigating these parts. i have a locker next to my upgrades slots thingie, holding all the upgrades i swap around if needed
>>
does the seamoth still have a sonar ?
>>
>>383012164
It was an interesting lesson. I kept one around for the Moth because it's small and fits into places, but knew the road everywhere with the Cyclops. Even the darkest areas of the Blood Kelp Zones I could navigate like the back of my hand. Yet, one wrong accidental turn in the ILZ Corridor and I was up shit creek with no idea if I was going into the right direction. It was a fun moment though, unexpected shit can be fun like that.
>>
>>383005768
They're changing the Bonesharks so that they won't attack the Cyclops anymore. However, Reaper and Ghost Leviathan aggression toward the Cyclops is being raised to compensate.

Bonesharks are everywhere, which is why they're disabling their aggression. It might be just so they can fix the bug, though. And yes people have complained lots and loudly about how even on silent running all of the Bonesharks in a mile's radius would kamikaze the Cyclops the moment it started moving.

>>383013346

>>
i have never ever once died to any wildlife in my cyclops. they just cant deal enough damage to make me even flood or start a fire. im always manage to stay in that self repair shield zone on the damage meter. if you get attacked just turn off your lights and engines. your searchlights on the cameras can be toggled as well. they attack light sources as well, not just sound. crabsquids go instant agro if you just have a lamp on near them
>>
>>383013518
>disabling their aggression
Huh, I thought they just tweaked it for the Cyclops. I mean they barely notice my Moth/PRAWN and don't put too much effort in chasing my player compared to their insane hatred for medium sized submarines. Seems like the easiest way to do it is just don't make them aggro on the Cyclops, but whatever works. Agreed about their numbers though. I get they're probably the equivalent of blue sharks in how they've spread all over the place but creature variety is the spice of life.
>>
>>383013869
Crabsquids just go after light sources right away, which makes sense as they're clearly a creature living in deeper areas. Jelly/Ghostrays do the same. Leave your Cyclops headlights on near the Lost River tree, they'll be all over you.

when the fuck is this game going to be finished?
>>
The devs of this game have done more damage to their interface system than I've seen most devs do in years. The base interface was fine.

>Delete precise numbers from survival stats and replace them with a cheap graphic that provides less info
>2 patches later, add an extra step instead
>make it to where you now have to open your inventory to see the precise numbers

>Ion Power cells added
>Originally took your power to a higher number out of a number to show the specific increase provided
>Change graphic to unspecified % out of 100 to where it looks no different than if you were using normal cells

The point is to have info. Not make it look pretty with less info. Menu systems are menu systems, stop mess with them.

Just look at the drive shaft room interface if you want precise numbers. And doesn't matter how much you've got in the two smaller vehicles because you'll never run out thanks to their solar/heat rechargers. I don't see what's different between percentages and numbers though, they both tell you the exact same thing.

Not at all. A percent is just a percent out of 100. Originally, power listing in the sub was EX: 100/100 with normal power cells. With Ion, it went to EX: 5000/5000. Both of these are now 100% because 100/100 & 5000/5000 is 100%. Can you see the difference between them because now you can't in the game.
>>
>>383013890
Only towards the Cyclops, they'll still be assholes towards you, the Seamoth, and the PRAWN.
>>
>>383014029

>>
>>383014876

>>
>>383014767
If I've got six Ion Cells in my banks then I know that the percentages aren't the same as when I've got six regular Cells. Still not seeing the problem, unless you keep forgetting which you've got. And again, use the drive shaft console if you do keep forgetting.

>>383014876
I've never found them to be as humongous an asshole towards me as they are towards the Cyclops. I go explore the Underwater Islands, I'll dodge and swim away a bit and they toodle off. Compared to kamikaze runs on the Cyclops it's not nearly as bad.
>>
>>383014035
>>383014360
you're writing it from someone who has played the game and knows about the change. If you were a new player, the original interface was much more intuitive and straight forward. I could easily see a new player not knowing just how good ion stuff is because of the change. It really was a bad idea. I hope they don't add the percent thing to the base power system as well. As for the food stats, that was just stupid and pointless.

I'll grant you that one. But honestly they'll notice right away just how slowly things suddenly drain. It's a pretty straight forward progression, you're not exactly sacrificing something for an either or choice. I agree about the base power though, but that's because you have a lot of weird finicky modules. Unlike the vehicles you really need the numbers there.

Duh, you deploy the decoy tube and crawl at a snail's pace using silent running so that when the decoy expires, you're still within 10 feet of them and start getting rammed again, so you run to your locker and grab another decoy, load it, run back to the bridge, deploy the new decoy, continue to crawl away to safety.

You continue to repeat this process; 40 minutes later, you'll have cleared the sand sharks' patrol radius and it only cost you like 25 copper and a bunch of titanium.

I'd wager he didn't bring a laser cutter to cut his way into the prawn room, but that's my guess.

It's easy to head to the aurora and be unprepared. You need quite a few tools to head there and get the most out of the trip including a cutting tool, a repair tool, and unless you know the trick, possibly even more if it's your first time going there. You can forgo bringing your own fire extinguishers since there's so many littered about and there's lots of food and water there but you have to make it there and back.

Anywhere basalt outcrops are common. the sparse reef has em. Basalt usually drops gold, but, sometimes drops diamond.
As does the northern island. So does the blood kelp 1 trench. Also in the deep grand reef you can see diamonds just sitting out in the open.

However if you want LOTS of diamond, the inactive lava zone has obsidian outcrops and every single one will drop a diamond.

Of course I'm pretty sure you're not quite to that point.

That's only for the seamoth. The cyclopse gets an invincible shield so what you do is activate the shield and then do silent running when it wears off. When that gets close to wearing off you cut the engines and dick around until your defensive counter measures come back. Hopefully it only takes one cycle to get out of their range.

It seems like it will have some utility at deeper, more hazardous depths when the rest of the content is finished. You can build a base down there with a scanner room and do a bunch of exploration without having to leave the base.

It's useful when you're short on copper, titanium, quartz or just looking for some obscure resource.
Rather than looking for them blindly, you can make your scanner room scan for variety of things, like scrap, outcrops, creature eggs, thermal vents, wrecks, etc.

You can then build a HUD upgrade that'll mark the locations on your HUD
>>
>>383031660

It's darn useful for finding things like limestone chunks to break for copper. You can upgrade it so the things it finds are displayed in your hud, then you set it to limestone (or whatever) and head out to collect it all. Made my life a lot simpler since copper is a serious bottleneck.

I won't argue that. But that's why it's a bug. Also Bonesharks seem to be dicks in general. Not like the much happier Sandsharks.

>Reapers or leviathans probably would
Considering most of the Leviathans seem to have some sort of rudimentary intelligence I'm sure they could figure out the concept of a canopener to get to the bitesized snack inside. I'm not sure a mosasaurus with brains is something you want to encounter while puttering along.

Nuclear reactors are a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The wiki says the rods last for 10k energy, which is pretty fucking nice, but the output isn't needed unless you want to light the ocean up with floodlights or really fucking like filtering water. One or two thermal plants will be all you need until you start charging nearly depleted ion batteries.

also it's the future, you can do anything you want to. Doctors don't even know how to do shit without their scanner and spacegoogle. We just need to find the blue prints for it.

Isn't it about time they added a map to the game?
I don't mind the crappy load distance making even huge objects not appear until your right next to it and I don't mind thick smog in like 70% of biomes, but holy crap not having an in game map that tracks your location is a fucking pain.
Makes you feel completely lost all the time with the only reliable visual market being the crashed ship (which you can only view from the surface).

Also, 3rd person mode when? I can even think of logical reasons to have a 3rd person camera such as a mobile camera drone that follows your vehicles from behind.

Why is a map not going to be added? It seems super counter productive considering that literally the one of the first things people google.

It's like what the developers of Darkest Dungeon have been saying. There's no point being stubborn about not implementing certain information when people will just google it anyway. It's the reason why Curios in DD will eventually get a tooltip saying that consumables will have an effect on it.

If this game ever gets Mod support, an in game map will be the first and most popular mod made.

casuals maybe. The game's map isn't that vast that requires a map. Also beacons, use them.

The game is focused on exploration, what's the bloody point in exploring shit when you have a map?
>>
>>383052319
>Why is a map not going to be added?
I don't know I'm not one of the devs. Game isn't that huge anyway, never needed a map personally. Finding your way around by exploration does the job just fine. If you really want one, just save one and place it in the in-game picture frame you can hang in your base.
>>
Will they add anymore biomes? I'd really love to see an arctic biome.

Because exploration is an essential component of the game. Explore and place beacons. Draw your own map, write down what directions and distances you find things in, etc etc.

Also generally an autistic hatred of wasting resources.

If you disassemble a base part, you get all the resources back. You can't waste them. Try, and if you're not feeling a location, move.

Don't worry too much about resources, you can refund anything in the game that you build(minus tools or vehicles) so you can move a whole base if you don't mind making multiple trips to the sub to store the materials.

You'll need the kyanite to build the Rocket to get you off (why would you want that) the planet. It'll apparently be a big resource sink. I'm also always drowning in copper though. Their tweaking of the drop rates of the variable resource drops makes every patch a new adventure of what you'll have too much of.

Sparse Reef/Grand Reef brother. You'll drown in the drillable resource nodes for quartz. The main complaints are because they keep changing the rates every patch trying to find a sweet spot. Two patches ago, gold and copper were everywhere ever with nary a lick of silver.
>>
>>383054665
Big titanium deposits are practically nonexistent above the Lost River, although once you've passed the Sea Dragon skeleton you can find quite a few. You find so much from wrecks, scrap and scanning already completed blueprints you'll never need to drill though. Crash Zone alone could build a biome spanning base.

There's plenty of of creative ways you can limit a players "killing capabilities" while still giving them an effective way of defending themselves.

>Really expensive ammunition
>Limited uses with long cooldowns
>Karma or "feels bad" system that causes negative consequences for pointlessly killing creatures.

Instead they went for.

>"We aren't going to implement thing people are asking for." The Game
The funny thing about this statement is that the entire game was built on what people wanted. Before the game started real development, there was even a thread on /v/ asking what should be in it and most everything that was asked for is in the game.
>>
>>383055547
>I'm not going to die am I?

Depends on what the devs want to do. Hardcore might eventually end up timed, Survival probably won't be.
>>
>>383055547
Story. It won't kill you but it will push you onwards to locations deeper down but you can take your time. Curing it isn't implemented yet, ends right before that. Warpers will now hate your guts too, so watch out.
>>
>>383055474
The funny thing is that Crash Fish is pretty much this. It's an effective killing tool, it takes time to farm them to be able to get ammo and you can't just spam it even if you do have ammo because the gun also requires power to function.

Seriously, just start blowing things up with crash fish, farm them as soon as you get alien containment.
>>
>>383016290

It's a pretty wasting disease. One of the reasons why still anything lives is because Peepers carrying the Emperor enzymes through the pipes leading into the Prison Aquarium. None of them have any infection and the Emperor is pretty integral to the plot.

The juvenile Sea Emperors are passive. They do have an attack animation that they can and will use on other animals, though.
>>
>>383065893
it trained them to commit sudoku and save us all
I'm starting a rescue effort now, these guys deserve better
>>
About to make a base soon, have unlocked the prawn suit etc. I did months ago before prawn was released get a base, fully upgraded seamoth and cyclops. It's a bit of a chore starting again. Did cheat the builder for the seamoth in though.

Nice.

I love the subnautica threads we have. They are pretty good, despite some shitposting from gun faggots. I think it's because a shared love /v/ has for deep sea stuff.
>>
>>383026636
I don't trust random /v/ recommendations. Explain what farsky does that subnautica doesn't, and compare the amount of stuff you can do in both.
>>
>>383066117
If you want the game to play itself then there should be some kind of drawback
>>
>>383028134
the game will be more expensive on v1.0
>>
>>383066308
Training poor little Peepers to go into the world and specifically be eaten by predators. For a plankton eating filterfeeder, Emperor is a dick.

>I love the subnautica threads we have
Comfy game leads to comfy threads.
>>
>>383066549
Yeah they tend to do that. /v/ can be an awesome place for discussion many times.
>>
any games like subnautica but that dont feel like a pixar movie?
>>
>>383066705
what?
>>
>>383055708
>most everything that was asked for is in the game.
I don't see any traps or brown sugar lolis in this game
>>
>>383066628
I just visit for specific threads these days, if they're not here I just try again later. Occasionally make one instead. Not a bad board when you do it like that really, little exposure to anything unpleasant.
>>
>>383066797
everything feels a tad too cartoonish for my taste.
>>
>>383041432
why would anyone mislead people there, the back of the aurora is full of leviathan and the right side got nothing but unlimited deepness and more leviathan

I wish they'd improve the performance. I hate the chugging it has now
>>
>>383036243
dudes dedicated tons of videos of subnautica on his channel so i dont really mind that he got put in the game
>>
>>383067093
This. Tried turning on the object fade-in option but the game still chugs when loading a new area and can even stop for 5 full seconds.
>>
>>383067065
He's just making sure new people have them same experience we all did. Is there anyone who didn't go into the back areas of the Aurora and got Reaper'd.
>>
>>383052712
No, since they haven't played Subnautica yet and I kind of wish they didn't.

Comfiest feeling. Spooky, but comfy.
>>
>>383067285
I can understand it because I don't have the best PC in the world but still, people with high end machines are having this constant chugging. They need to take out the terrain editing finally.
>>
>>383028361
Whenever people talk about copper I never notice anyone mention Reefbacks. They have barnacles which almost always give copper and you can usually get a dozen or so pretty quick, easy, and close to the surface.
>>
>>383067853
but how am I making excessive noise on the lowest possible speed?
>>
>>383067937

Static mesh map will come. They're not doing until they're done editing the map however, because that would make their job harder.

Is there anything more annoying to farm than stalker tooths?
>>
>>383068072
The "cavitating" is still excessive and currently being edited. You should've seen it during the previous update. It was every half second.
>>
>>383068084
Yeah, still it can't come soon enough.
>>
>>383031861
WOW HOW DARE YOU WANT TO FIGHT TO SURVIVE IN OUR SURVIVAL GAME

IN REAL LIFE PEOPLE JUST HIDE FROM BEARS AND SHIT
>>
>>383067932
Yea. I have an OC'd 1060 and it chugs like a motherfucker whenever I'm near a kelp forest. Hopefully by the time it's out of early access it'll be fixed.
>>
>>383068241
True enough.
>>
>>383065660
I put them on anything interesting like wrecks, cave entrances, etc. I'm also bad at remembering where I am at any time in game. For example, I'll be swimming in the SS, find a kelp forest, and not know which one it is. The only way I know where things are without beacons is by going to the surface and looking for landmarks like the aurora or the islands.
