Just got Plat for Crash 1 10 minutes ago getting Plat for all 3 Crash games now. Game was challenging, but overall easy and enjoyable. Every stage was only 1-3 minutes long of trial and error shit. It's challenging, but fair and overall a very simple game. The people crying about the difficulty got me a little worried about getting Plat for Crash 1, since I never played it, but it wasn't as bad as the babbies make it seem.

Crash 1 was obviously a mix of Mario and Sonic and Sony's response to those franchises. Crash 1 is a simple and challenging platformer while Crash 2 and 3 made Crash into his own character and made the game more enjoyable.

A new game with the gameplay of 2 and 3 but with the difficulty of 1 would probably be great.

People who get into video game journalism are typically the scraps of an already scummy barrel, journalism has been dying since the advent of social media and none have been dying harder than vidya. This is where walking simulators come in, as they're exceptionally easy to play (don't gotta think) and are focused almost entirely on some (often hackney) "deep" plot someone with a cheap piece of University paper can spend an entire article gushing about, with all those fancy thesaurus words they knew would come in handy some day.

Finally, as you said, there's also an "in-crowd" aspect to it. Gaming journalists and Indie developers are often cut from the same cloth, as GamerGate taught us they're quite literally in bed with each other. These Indie Devs lack safety nets, if you give them a shitty score than they likely won't be able to make another game or, worse yet, continue working as a Dev entirely. You wouldn't do that to an "ally," would you? It's the same mentality that gives Amber Scott, the much-reviled writer of that Baldur's Gate expansion, work with notably liberal tabletop companies like Paizo.
