Thoughts on Windows 10?
>>
Other than the firewall fucking with things occasionally and having to turn it off I don't really have any complaints.
>>
>>383000821
Bean using it for nearly 2 years now.
No issues whatsoever.
Interestingly i also did not found any games i could not get to run.
>>
>>383000821
It's a fucking mess
>>
Not had any issues with games but for some reason it just refuses to shut down now. I press shut down PC and it's stuck saying 'shutting down' until I turn off the PC by holding the power button down.

Also the start menu is a joke. Nobody wants apps on their desktop Microsoft, it will never be a thing.
>>

>>
>>383000821

Would be good if they stopped the spyware.

Installing the anniversary update and the creator's update removed the telemetry blocks put in place. The early creator's update also switched telemetry to full before complaints were made.

Websites that you visit. Filenames that you open. Programs that you run. Double check that you are at least on basic telemetry if you're not going to block it manually. XBOX owners, you're fucked anyway.
>>
It unironically just works. Since I'm outside US jurisdiction I also don't have to worry about spyware.
>>
It's malware.

There is literally nothing wrong with Windows 10.

No, just like directx 9. See when vista came out, it was horseshit and everybody knew it. And directx 10 did not offer anything very significant over directx 9. People stayed with xp. So we had a massive developer backlog just sit with directx 9 because that was the largest market.
Currently, developing a directx 12 only game is for windows 10 users only. Vulkan does exactly the same things graphically, and works on 7/8.1/10.

GNU/Linux Now has the best OpenGL drivers for AMD hardware available on any platform in the form of the open source Mesa RadeonSI.
The Mesa RadV Vulkan driver is also proceeding at a rapid pace and is already faster than the OpenGL driver, though not quite as consistently fast as the closed source official Vulkan driver.

The Nvidia driver is actually exactly the same as the one used on Windows. OpenGL and Vulkan performance is consistently demonstrated to be the same across platforms.

The performance hit seen in most Linux games compared to the Windows version is the result of trying to port from one high level (non-standard) code path, to another high level (standard) code path. More recent ports are starting to replace OpenGL with Vulkan which allows the DirectX codepath to be more easily and directly replaced as its lower level. This can be seen in this comparison of the Mad Max OpenGL version, compared to the linux-exclusive Vulkan version.
Games that are actually designed for Vulkan will see even more impressive results.

No shit, DirectX is a brand name for all of Microsoft's non-standard proprietary APIs.
Vulkan is a competitor to Direct3D.

If you want the rest of the functionality without being locked in you want OpenAL, OpenCL, SDL, etc.

This right here is why Windows 8 was the best OS. I base all my beliefs on the hotness of the OS-tan. Windows 8 had 2 hot OS-tans. They expect me to go to a white haired harlot when Windows 8 has two girls. Look at them, they are literally promising you they can build your computer for you. Look at the awe Yuu has and tell me that Windows 8 isn't amazing.

Windows 10 is lame. Only one girl and she keeps demanding I replace my computer with circular orbs for some reason.

Honestly Windows 10 has made me start spending my time in Linux. It looks better, has a more consistent UI, and I don't have to deal with error messages I can't figure out how to fucking fix without shady fixes from Pajeets.

WINE works pretty well for the one piece of Windows software I couldn't do without. (Musicbee)

Starting to experiment with WINE for steam as well, hope we live long enough to see Overwatch work in Wine.

It has problems, but it says a lot about an OS when you'd rather work through the problems than switch back to something that just werks

>>383000821
my experience with it was miserable, went back to 7 after about a year of pure suffering. nothing works like it does on 7, all the menus are fucked up and obtuse, theres tons of bugs and crashes.. I had a bluescreen once trying to change my wallpaper, for christs sake. Got booted off a game more than once because of updates. Stuff like minimizing from the taskbar and other basic shit not working properly. Generally felt sluggish on 16gb of ram and SSD, 7 feels much faster and responsive. The UI looks awful, you can't use a classic theme like in every other version.

just use 7 unless you absolutely must play all the Windows 10 exclusive games (which there are like 5 right now).
>>
>>383009660
I use w10 on my laptop (& w7 for desktop) and i never had a problem with it. (Just disabled Cortana and Telemetry as soon i got it though)
>>
Mac user here, bought an iMac a month ago and decided to install Windows 10 to play games I used to play when I was in high school

holy shit this is bad on some points. This is just a gaming partition so I don't do browsing or anything, I just play game. First thing lacking is the virtual iso player that was in W7. It was cool, I don't know why they removed it.
Second of all, wtf is going on with the antivirus ? The OS ask me to go admin mode or to accept some stuff way too much, I feel like I'm loosing time. I know what I'm doing, stop asking me. Oh, and sometime the OS just don't want me to delete files or to move them, just like that.

Last one, but there's a very “freemium“ feeling of the OS. There's ads in the menu and it comes with a shitty antivirus that keeps telling me it expired and that I should pay because I'm not protected or something. That's annoying, it shouldn't come with something like that included.

Other than that I don't really have to complain. The apple trackpad got bugs but I guess it's apple fault for not making good drivers. And I like the MacOS keyboard better but that's probably because I'm used to it.

TL;DR : Great for games but I won't use it as my everyday OS.

Because it's legally free, way less bloated than the alternatives, has incredibly convenient software repositories and respects your privacy. In fact, you should only ever launch Windows to play a video game and shut it down immediately after you're done.
>>
>>383010510
Windows 10 forces updates because normies can't be trusted to EVER update their shit because it's too inconvenient for them.
>but just let us turn it off!
Then you'll have the same problem, normies will turn it off and never update.

These ransomware attacks you've probably been hearing about the last few months were all successful because even the somewhat-tech-savvy fucks in charge of servers don't update their shit when they're supposed to.

System updates might seem like an inconvenience, but they're there to protect you. Just stop playing videogames for 15 minutes and let your fucking computer update.
>>
>>383011508

Well then it's a good thing you make regular backups in the event of this right? Oh wait nobody does because they consider taking an interest in regular PC maintenance "difficult and for somebody like geek squad."

"Oh hey, maybe I shouldn't click this shady fucking link my friend sent to me titled funnyvidsxD.co.br/fa4fasdgpoambimi4" It's unavoidable in some cases, but how many cases are actually unavoidable when people fuck up? People on kikebook always claim "oh I guess I was hacked lol" when the reality is they were phished and should have had some self-awareness of where they were. If people just took some fucking interest in their security, maybe we wouldn't need Microshit to babysit us

I'm not claiming that updates are bad, but punishing the majority who aren't retarded because of a large minority is criminal. And the worst part about it all is that you can't even disable this shit with Powershell/cmd because Windows is a fucking rootkit-tier software that will never ever let you away from all of their spying and update bullshit.

The most dangerous thing cross-site scripting can be used for is hijacking accounts. It can steal your authentication tokens and pretend to be on on another website you have open.

If you want to be safe, don't browse 4chan while trolling Facebook or making Amazon purchases, or even logging into them. If you want to be extra safe, just don't have multiple tabs or browser windows open at the same time, and avoid clicking links; manually navigate to the page instead.

The most garbage OS ever, setting up W10 on my laptop which came with it practically gave me cancer. I've had it turn off to install updates during important background tasks even when I disabled that option. (Only solution was to forcefully remove all update related tasks so it literally can't update, oh and I had to do this to stop fucking Cortana constantly restarting itself) Plus the amount of work I went through just so I have admin access to my own god damn files. Every design aspect of this OS is shit. They can pry W7 out of my cold dead hands

>It can steal your authentication tokens and pretend to be on on another website
>pretend to be on on
That's supposed to say "pretend to be you". It could also have a keylogger in there somewhere, and there's really no way of knowing what site might do it. Even user-submitted text on an https:// website could have scripts hidden inside them that automatically execute a script when they load. See: the self-retweeting tweet, or the myspace worm that infected anyone who visited a user's page to add them as a friend, then infect anyone who visted THEIR page to add the original page as a friend, and just kept on spreading and spreading and spreading.

Those only got noticed because the way they were designed to behave made them noticeable. There's really no way for an average person (and even many tech-aware people) to know this shit is going on until it's already happened, unless they're paranoid and look for this type of shit in every page they visit.

That's just how it is, they literally don't give you full access to directories where programs are installed so if you want to do stuff that isn't browsing facebook you need to jump through hoops. You can't just say 'I'm an admin, fuck off' like before. Windows' own office installer couldn't uninstall a program because it didn't have the rights.

I hope Vulkan keeps up the pace. It really is a godsend and it will provide some much needed competition in the gaming sphere for operating systems. When everything can't just be held onto Windows because of D3D then everyone cross operating system support will thrive much more. And we'll see Windows lose it's dominance in the gaming sphere on Computer. That's a good thing.

Welcome to software. Try reading some of the terms of service or privacy policies before you click "accept and continue" next time. Just take a look at the shit some of them say and ask yourself "what could they do to me?" or "how could they use that information?"

For instance, the Oculus Rift privacy policy COULD basically allow them to see where you are in your own home when you have your headset on, and practically anyone affiliated with Facebook (for all we know this could range from janitors and college interns to Zuckerberg himself) to see whatever you're seeing whenever they want. The wording technically allows for this.

I used to argue points like "that's just legal bullshit to cover their ass, they'd never actually bother doing that", but then the Snowden leaks happened.

Maybe this is a good place to ask. I cloned my primary drive to an SSD but the tool partitioned it with GPT/UEFI and now none of the loaders work (Win 7 Ult).
