What is the best dungeon crawler out there with the most content which is newbie friendly?
This talk about Grimoire got me thirsty and I can't wait until it gets delayed again.
>>382985202
Just go play Legend of Grimrock 2 and have fun.
>Red pill
here you go, sir - take one a day, until pain is gone

Wizardy 4

Is it newbie friendly?
>>382985202
Mystery dungeon types are better than the RPG types.
>>382985967
Absolutely
>>382986045
Okay I will check it out. Took 1 week off work. You better not be lying.
>>382986016
What is the difference?
Grimrock.
>>382985306
that shit fucked up my life it was so good.

Here's your pill
This is something I never see addressed about the genre...
I love dungeon crawlers, but only if they are turn-based. Grimrock 1 looked like heaven to me but I couldn't stand the gameplay.
So, is there more than one genre of dungeon crawler? Or a different name? Or just turn-based vs uh, not sure what a call a Grimrock game.
Examples of games I do like: Shining in the Darkness/Holy Ark, Arcana, Etrian Odyssey and so on

Might and Magic X Legacy is pretty good. Really enjoyed it.
Lots of content, some great concepts. Outdoor exploration in the same style as the square by square dungeon exploration. Ranged attacks even, so you can peg enemies from 3-4 squares away. It's pretty cool.
Lots of old school stuff in it, too. High level dungeons spread across the map that you can access anytime.
If you want to get into dungeon crawlers, I'd honestly recommend System Shock Enhanced. It's basically Ultima Underworld in space, and since the RPG elements are minor (it's more Metroid-esque with the collecting of new stuff), you don't need to worry about permanently screwing yourself over.
>>382985306
Do you have to do silly dodging stuff to survive combat or is it about like cc and survivability?
I really don't like dodging being part of clumsy grid based party games.
>>382985306
ok, i finished both grimrocks multiple times
what else is there?
please, no mediocre games
>>382986045
kek
>>382986270
They come from a japanese take on Rogue, like roguelikes do except (modern ones) are more about party mechanics and they have this repeated short expeditions in smaller dungeons thing instead of like one long expedition through a really long one.
Etrian Mystery Dungeon is a good place to start on those.
>>382986518
Go way back to Eye of the Beholder.
>>382985306
Why not 1?
>>382986925
ok, i might give it a shot once again
cos it seems i can't play that new game Grimoire on a mac
>>382986504
on normal difficulty, at the beginning, yes. you can set it to easy and just murder dudes if you want.
>>382986119
Can't tell if you're just playing along but you're getting trolled. Wizardry 4 is probably one of the ball-bustingly difficult games of all time.
>>382987357
What?!
>>382987645
If you have a 3DS, pick up Etrian Odyssey Untold 2.
It's got a "casual mode" that's especially easy for when you're just learning the genre. For a proper game though, play the real difficulties.
Awesome music, no QTE bullshit, just turn-based strategy. You use the bottom screen to draw your dungeon map as you go, it's neat.
>>382986427
There's three types:
1. The Wizardry clones - turn-based and grid-based
2. The Dungeon Master clones - realtime and you control 1 guy instead of a party
3. The Might & Magic clones - free movement, and combat can be either realtime or turnbased
Most jap dungeon crawlers like Shining and Etrian Odyssey are Wizardry clones

>dungeon master
>you control 1 guy
What?
>>382986045
>>382985671
dude this is just fucking cruel
>>382985202
Strange Journey.
>>382985202
Ultima Underworld is the best dungeon crawler WRPG ever. Ultima Underworld II is the second best.
>>382986836
EOMD is trash though
Is Starcrawler any good?
>>382989675
Nah.
>>382985810
wat
>>382990068
It's alright but gets repetetive very fast. Not enough abilities and interesting synergies and party\skill combinations to last.
It's to a good dungeon crawler what Desktop Dungeon is to a proper Roguelike
>>382986925
>no automap
lol no
>>382990110
Yah. It's pure unfiltered dweebshit.

You should get a job in a movie theater since you're projecting this hard.
Can someone list the best turn based dungeon crawlers?
>>382995237
your mom is the best turn based dungeon crawler. You can even have a quite big party.
This was my first. Very fun.
>>382995413
This isn't even funny
>>382995507
>sega cd
I don't mean to be insulting, I'm genuinely curious based on others I've met who grew up with one. Did you come from a family that one might call "white trash"?
Surprised no one's recommended diablo or PoE
>>382995237
wizardry 7 and 8
might & magic 4-7
eye of the beholder 1 and 2
black crypt
ambermoon
shining the holy ark
realms of arkania series
>>382995762
>diablo or PoE
>dungeon crawlers
Arpg
>>382996450
Thanks, but Black Crypt and Eye of the beholder are real time. Ambermoon looks great, I've never heard of it before.
Two upcoming titles:
Malevolence: The Sword Of Ahkranox
Aeon of Sands: The Trail
What about Albion?
Why is nobody recommending Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos yet? Did /v/ fall into the Twilight Zone?
try grimrock, some casual wizardry clone like EO and arx fatalis
those are the 3 types of dungeon crawler games I guess you could say, if they click with you there are plenty more to check out
