I hated the original mod for how it handled wounds, if any of your guys takes a single point of damage they are out for several weeks minimum. Complete and total bullshit, Long War 2 seems to be the same shit.

I played it on laptop and I had no trouble, apart of waiting 10 seconds everytime Central had something to say and apart of that my GPU melted in the final mission.

Now I play it on 1070 and easy life. Can't wait for War of the Chosen.

Fuck you, one point of damage from any source at all equals a soldier out of commission for weeks. I wouldn't even care at all if the system actually took into account what they were hit by but it blatantly doesn't, they just made inflated the numbers that calculate wound severity and called it a day.

That healing mist isnt healing, it stops the bleeding and numbs the pain. It does nothing to treat the injury. It just puts the soldier on its legs to finish the mission.

Ok, lets talk balance.

Yes, yes it is. It forces you to have large amount of soldiers. While those recovering from wounds are out, you are playing with your other soldiers. You are aware that you should be having around 40 soldiers, right? You can do with less, but you will be struggling to make the ends meet. I have little over 30 right now since I fucked up. I learned to not be a bitch and continue the game even when I lost 5 best soldiers in one mission, lost bomb mission by 1 tile and got several man killed across many missions.

It happened at least 50% of the time I tried playing Long War. Sure once you get established and can maintain 30+ troops it stops being an issue, but the fact that you can end up being fucked right out the door just shows the changes were game breaking bullshit that didn't have enough thought put into them.

I am just gonna say it, but it sounds like you suck at this game. You really shouldnt be having dead rookies in march and no wound should even be a problem at that time since you are to bring 5 new rookies and one SPEC with shotgun every mission. Its literally impossible to fuck march due to wound timers.

Its really not until summer when wounds start being a problem since you dont have carapace yet, but aliens have high enough aim to hit you in high cover. At that time, Medic with Field Surgeon and an officer with stay frosty are golden.

Yeah the odds of that actually happening is so small that its the "Thats XCOM baby" moment when it happens. One dead soldier isnt reason to restart the campaign. You are supposed to go toe to toe with aliens in LW. My list of casualties is huge. Still going.

What you have to accept is that the game goes on. Just continue, it will get better, and then worse, but continue.

Fair, its hard. I played LW for a long time but only now did I completely embrace the ironman. Here is a tip though. And it may sound obvious, but after you have horrible mission with losses, play another one. Even if its squad wipe. Play another mission. Because thats the way you realize that it wasnt campaign ending loss.

Now I know you arent playing Long War. If you did, you would know that strategy doesnt mean shit there and its just about making the best of a situation. Most of the time you cant be picky about cover, you are just happy that you have some.

I really like "True concealment" mod where the timers dont start until you are revealed. Now only does that push the timers from "you better sprint to the objective buddy" to "Its time to stop overwatch walling and move", but it make so much more sense in narrative.

Thats fair. Though it wouldnt be right if I didnt say the usual. LW should feel less RNG than vanilla, since you are given many tools to handle the situations from the get go. Its harder, true, but you have more opportunity to prepare for it.

If we are talking Vanilla, then yes, losing a soldier or two is pretty devastating, but you should have a B-team, or atleast half a team (3 soldiers) that you level up occasionally. That way when you lose soldiers, you dont have to bring rookies to late game missions.

This, and its why I honestly dislike the game.

It didnt change the metagame from the previous installment at all, and just forces you to gamble on bad situations or saftely retreat from the mission.

The game still completely revolves around activating only 1 pack at a time, and bringing enough guaranteed damage to make up for bad luck.

But its made even worse with the whole fucking dodge mechanic, and nearly forcing you to build your team to shred armor in every end-game mission.

It pushed my tolerance for pods too far. They went from "bearable annoyance" in EU to "completely gamebreaking" in XCOM 2 for some reason, and I'm just not sure why only the second one did this. Having a tactics game where having more vision is a cripplingly bad thing is the most retarded thing I can possibly think of, though.

I don't know if LW changes the behavior of the ayy's much, but flying enemies like Cyberdisks can usually be pinned in by overwatch. If you put a few guy on it, they seem to freak out that so many people are waiting for them to move and will just retaliation overwatch, rendering them much less dangerous. That was always my strategy when I activate multiple pods of flyers.

If you can manage the panic in XCOM 1, you can manage the Advent project in XCOM 2. Play it if you think you'll like it, it's not got a time limit so much as you have to think of the order you do missions to keep their progress low.
