I'm implying that the vanilla game is dogshit, and that CDPR knows it. More than that they knew the game was broken on multiple basic technical levels, I.E. IT WAS UNFINISHED, and they released it anyway because they're dishonest fucks. Not to mention Downgradegate.

That's what I mean by unfinished. The story is finished, the combat system is finished (broken, but finished). The finished product is a piece of shit, the above is just delayed icing on the shit-filled cake. TW3 was delayed for almost a year, and eventually they decided that it was "good enough" to be released, even though it wasn't. And that decision was made AFTER they had looked at the story and said that it was A-OK.

CDPR are bad developers. They have decent writers who misstepped, but that misstep sheds more light on how inept the programmers and directors are.

Witcher 3 absolutely has some big faults, but it's a good game.
The writing in it is what keeps bringing me back.

Every time I feel like something feels like a bit of a slog I power through it and I'm almost immediately met with something great.

When I started Hearts of Stone I was a bit meh, thought it felt a bit bland and while Gaunter seemed neato it wasn't enough to carry it. But once Olgierd's character started to unravel I was very impressed.

I only hope that B&W is good too.

In your defense, the triggers for this are mind-bogglingly insane and arbitrary. In the official walkthroughs, they defend it by saying 'building ciri's confidence', but most of the decisions are asinine, not obvious, and childish.

Off the top of my head, there are only like 5-6 triggers that matter for your ending with her in the entire game. Your ending occurs if you fail to build her 'confidence', and those triggers only occur in the later half of the game after you rescue her.

For example, there's one part in Kaer Morhen where she gets all buttblasted about not being able to do magic. Your choices are either to tell her not to worry about it and try harder, or have a snowball fight with her.

If you tell her not to worry, you fail a confidence check trigger because reasons. There's another point in elf-man's private home where she gets buttblasted about him being a dickish elf. You can either trash the shit out of his house with her, or tell her to grow up. If you tell her to grow up, again, instant loss of confidence point. If you fail 2-3 of those over the whole game, she instantly dies to the white frost and there is jack shit you can do about it.

Having read the books, this is a bullshit justification. The games are supposed to be held, first off, as a separate universe. Secondly, you can't rely on entirely separate medium and series to hold up your story. The games have to stand on their own two feet when it comes to character and story; the books can be used as secondary reading to expand your understanding and appreciation, but you should be able to get a complete and satisfying experience from the games alone. Am I going crazy or is TW3's audio balance awful? Music is fairly quiet (except in dialogue where it's too loud for some reason), sound effects are loud as fuck, Geralt's voice is like 3x louder than everybody elses.

Signs is flat-out underpowered, but most people dumb 14-15 points into it in addition to Alchemy or Combat so they can get Quen or some trap-sign upgrades to compliment their stye.

Combat is second-best but most preferred playstyle since it's straight forward. Buff damage, buff crit chance, spin around like a record baby and decapitate everything.

Alchemy is broken-levels of powerful, but is much slower and takes longer to reveal its strengths. Once you're fully invested though, you're running around with 30 potions activated at once breathing underwater while dealing 500% increased damage to fucking everything and throwing holy hand-grenades like candy if anyone even looks at you wrong.

I don't know what bad end looks like, so it could be that you see her actually die, but I figured she just didn't give a shit enough to actually come back since she can hop worlds.
