they gave him slightly more refined limbs, and a generally less 'chunky' build but even then compared to most "redesigns" it's hardly that noticeable, he's still got his creepy weird bulbous shape and his way-too-over-designed manbreasts

even so, that was from the first arc of the anime, where most designs, anime or game were sort of set in stone, if anything a lot of the posted art there was almost more of a 'beta' design than their true canon appearances

I'm not saying it's not good art in the original, but, that's still far at all from that big of a change compared to most stuff in this thread.

It's fine for the Yoshi series but that was just meant to be a spin-off design for the change in art style, into something cuter. Classic Yoshi's design was always intended to be kept for the main Mario series, but I guess it was harder to model in 3D at the time (even though he's in SM64, and looks fine by that game's standards). His voice in Yoshi's Island was his best one though.

You'll notice that even in Digimon Adventure, they weren't shaded so heavily or given the same amount of detail as their merchandise art. Anime studios create their own concept art based around the original art, but it's done in a way that fits the anime's style.
