I desire a game where you ride a lonely road during the Post-Apocalypse, the objective is finding a another person, but you only meet beasts and mutants made savage by the radiation. Though it seems bleak, you always cling on that possibility. Always searching, always running, no home.

Factorio, assuming you play singleplayer, but even then it feels extremely isolated.

You're the only one of your species on a planet. The game's objective is to send a signal to space so somebody can hopefully find you.

Soundtrack is pretty effective at amplifying the feeling.

You literally are at one point of the game, erased from existence to the extent that no one can see you or remember you. You've become completely overshadowed by your own personality (one that is considered to be lacklustre, quiet and prone to being ignored or unnoticed by a majority of people).

>>382976624
Have you ever played worlds.com? Look up a video, a MMO that has been running since the mid 90's everything is low poly and runs weird, the game is so primitive with constant glitches and things messing up. Basically no one plays and you're walking around this weird, low poly dreamscape.

It still has a community somewhat, it is a bit infamous, but even those that do use it can be strange.

It doesn't come out well in screenshots but what makes the game work is the musical score. It's very atmospheric and immersive, when it wants to be.

The last "level" (more like an interactive cutscene) is fucking awful though.

Not really a game but Space Engine.

You explore a near infinite, procedurally generated universe. That's it.

Think of it like NMS except without all the bullshit and with a much better atmosphere.
>>
>>382974058
Exploring places in Vanilla WoW that you clearly shouldn't be in. Every where you go in game there's always 1 NPC or at least some sort of environmental activity (butterflies, sandstorm), but when you leave player boundaries everything becomes flat, static and barren.

Going into an instance, blinking out and exploring the preset, empty chunk of land just to fall off and continue on an infinite stretch of untextured floor is such a striking contrast to the rest of the game that it's eerie, it's like a deafening silence.

THIS

There's this particular part during the airboat section. It's a little settlement at the side of a canal, it's entirely optional and there's nothing there besides a bed and corpses, maybe a zombie. There's this little sound coming from a wind chime somewhere. It's so nice and quiet. When I replay the game I always stop there for a few minutes.

not sure about how much of it is true to the real universe.

It's obviously not Starbound but most of it is still procedurally generated except for some objects within the Milky way. The real universe doesn't have so many planets or star systems with 20+ planets.

Zelda games, in a twisted way. There are plenty of people you meet along the way, and about a handful of them are capable of helping you on your quest. Aside from getting an item you need from them or them pointing you in the right direction, they're powerless. You're the only one with the capability of doing what needs to be done; everyone and everything else is a stepping stone.

Neo Scavanger

Or Fallout New Vegas DUST mod.

That fucking mod man makes EVERYTHING hopeless, like there is no hope of anything, every character you loved is dead, every town is fucked over because according to the lore, those mutant creatures of the Divide fucked everyone over, even the main character is dead in a cave.

There are friendly NPCs, like 5 i think in the whole fucking game and you need to roam the whole wasteland to find them, finding a NPC that doesnt want to kill you will bring a tear to your eye, not even joking.

I found one NPC that didnt want to kill me after 2 hours of play and i intermediately cheated to get that NPC as a companion and i protected her ass until the bitter end where i died of hunger.

Even the non-payment messages make it feel less lonely. For a game meant to be played single player, it feels very populated.

I saw Halo CE mentioned. Even with Cortana talking to you.. there's a point where you realize you're the only non covenant/flood still around and it's really lonely.

I recently repirated AC Brotherhood just to replay that part.

You're alone in Monterrigioni at night, everything is silent aside from faint voices from behind the lit windows, cicadas in the distance, and his music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7WawL_VLA0

Best feeling of loneliness ever, which for some reason I cannot stop replaying.

Kotor 2, the prologue on Peragus. I hated it at the beginning, but it grew on me.

Late summer afaik. New update will have additions to how the light system works, 3D clouds, protoplanetary disks, new UI, other things. Wallpaper Simulator 2017 soon.

Pathologic when playing as the bachelor. You're not physically alone, but you definitely feel like an alien that nobody understands and that understands nobody.
>>
>>382996545
surprised it was not mentioned silent hill 2 and 3(probably because it's just irrelevant now). While there is people your interactions with them are rarely warm and are seldom. It's leaves you with a real feeling a of longing and loneliness which is something I think they intentionally cultivated.

Portal 2 had that nailed pretty well in the lower Aperture part of the game. Especially the ambient and music. Otherwise, the Submachine flash games do it very nicely.

For Honor.

The Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets game sometimes gave me that feeling. You're always in these strange sections of the castle with only weird monsters as company.

Dark Souls 3 has a lot more players than For Honor, that's how far it has come already.
Dark Souls 2 has about the same amount of players if you combine Steam and Uplay numbers of FH.
Dark Souls 1 has more steam players.

does this art style / genre have a name?
I like genre mixes

Steampunk comes to mind, not sure if that's quite it
>>
>>383003014
nah steampunk does fit.
I guess simply calling it "alternative history" would work.
but it´s a real cool picture.
too bad that fantasy nowaday is usually just "elfs, orks and dwarf" ripoff from Tolkien.
i would love to play a game that is for example set in a Europe where the Roman Empire never fell and where you get to play as an imperial knight fighting off turks and mongols

Titan Souls.

Really gave me a sense of loniless at the time i played it. I was emotionally fragile at the time, so it might have contributed.

It's impossible to transfer the feeling of complete loneliness to the point where someone would desperately look for another person, through a video game. Players would feel no incentive to actually look for another person in the game.

Also /v/ avoids human contact, how do you plan to sell them on a game like that?
>>
>>382974058
nocturne kinda did. there's only like 5 or so humans left alive and you only see them now and again. I guess your demons keep you company but I mostly felt alone in a good way.
>>
>>382974058

nocturne has some of the best atmosphere in any vidya. to think they did it with such a low budget too makes it all the more impressive

Been playing gothic 2 because of the meme threads, but for some reason it makes me feel lonely playing it. Not sure why... Its sort of a cozy loneliness though.
>>
>>382974058
I always thought Skyrim was a lonely game, something feels off about the NPCs like they all have autism. Plus all the wilderness and snow
>>
>>382977846

>>382988378
traps let you deal with the really hard shit, at least in the first parts of the game
