Mario Party 6 has the best central mechanics, though. It has one of the best item systems in the series, the best boards, the best board gimmicks, some of the best happening spaces/events, and its items in general would be better than 3 if not for the fact that they're less balanced and there's no wacky watch.

It has weaker minigames, sure, but it creates the most upsets overall.

I think MP6 with MP3 + 2's boards and minigames would be GOAT

Why the fuck were all the Gamecube Mario Party games so ugly? Even when I was young and got them all on release, the visuals always looked so weird to me. Mainly the character models.

Mario Party 1 had the best aesthetics of any 3D Mario game. They were still forming what was to become the 3D Mario style. The prerendered backgrounds in 1-3 were aesthetic.

Okay, well I guess the "copy everything with slight differences and release it on PC" approach worked for Stardew Valley, but this was in a market where absolutely nothing along those lines existed. BGO and 100% OJ both happen to be video games based around being a board game. I never felt that way, it added the orbs items that can effect spaces and not just normal items like 2, 3 & 4 had, the boards weren't just grey paths with some shit in between the boards like 4 & they actually took advantage of the world for board travel (1-3 did this better than 4 even) and the story mode interested me personally unlike 4 which is just the boring do all the boards thing then do a "boss" minigame which some of them can be luck based like the Boo. They also had that optional machine mode, more traditional board game mode and etc. as extras in 5. I liked the mini-games and music a lot though in 4, not sure I prefer 5 over 4 in that regard, they may be on-tier.

The thing with MP5 is that the boards feel like shit to play on. Everything moves slow as molasses, capsules introduce boring inconsequential shenagians, and the board space is devoid of interesting gimmicks because the game expects players to make things happen with capsules.

With MP4 the boards feel tighter and the minigames are comparable if not better than n64 trilogy. It was the last time Hudson really knew what they were doing.
