Best missions of the series. Weird how most people seem to think they're the worst. I don't get why people complain about the lack of variety - the best mechanics are shooting and driving, so what's wrong with most of the missions being shooting and driving? Most of them had interesting setups anyway. I love even the "traditional" set up where you're doing a drug deal, but it turns out they're police officers, so you have to shoot your way out the building

Its born out of contrarian fucks pretending Zack Snyder isn't a massive hack and highlights what an incredibly shitboard /tv/ has become since Lost ended.

I really liked this game, but it has the same problem Sleeping Dogs does, where the gameplay and the story don't mesh 100%. Niko and Wei Shen both wouldn't go on random killing sprees.

Sleeping Dogs has a counter for number of people you've jump kicked in a row, as well as one for people you've driven over. What's the easiest way to get a high number in a row?

Drive down the side walk.

>>
>>382948562

THe problem isnt the saturation, the problem is the fucking glare, this game has glare on everything and its fucking ugly
>>
IV is easily babby's first GTA game. If you never played the other GTAs before IV then of course it would be your favorite. GTA 4 took all the fun out of GTA for the sake of the euphoria physics engine and an edgy, serious, no fun story. Ballad of Gay Tony took it into the right direction.
>>
>>382949254

I would hardly even describe IV as grimdark, there's actually a lot of humor in the game, and there's a lot of positive, life-affirming conversations among Nico and his friends/girlfriends.

But I agree, the endless nihilism and satire in V just got overwhelming, almost nothing in that game is actually taken seriously. I actually find it a lot more depressing than IV, because the general message of V is that the world we live in, is overwhelmingly shit
>>
>>382951284
It's basically accentuating the narrative with gameplay before it was a trendy trendy thing to do.
But it's not fun, it's not great, it should not be there.
>>
>>382946649

I honestly wish this game was a dating simulator. I think that's the kind of game they wanted to make anyway. They clearly designed the city first and then shoehorned in a mediocre story. They should have just gone full "Second Life" style of gameplay and make it a city/life/dating simulator. I mean, why not? It was the perfect overworld for it.
>>
>>382951704
>>382951284

I'm surprised you guys hate it so much. When it came out, I was blown away that every mission had conversations in the car on the way to the objective. It felt so immersive and I loved all the colorful little details through their conversation. What's especially cool is that if you failed the mission and did it over, there was usually a second conversation

I thought this was a great feature, because it meant that cutscenes didn't just have to be exposition, they could be more interesting, and then on the drive owner they could more explicitly state the objective. One of my favorite missions is "No 1" where you and Brucie go to the race, its great fun seeing Brucie hype you up
>>

this held all the GTA's back i think, but it seemed most out of place in gta 4 as it wanted to pretend Niko was more moral, as well as it wanted to be more laid back/lower stakes.

This is what i honestly loved about the game despite i had to ignore that niko murders people every day.
Bu the atmosphere was so good, city was gorgeous, music great, i didnt even need the action. Wished they would have embraced that more.
>>
>>382952293
Definitely San Andreas.

>>
>>382952007

never explicitly tells you to call people and theres dialogue with someone on the phone after just about every mission

desu i loved the immersion aspects despite that a lot of people found them boring.

One detail that made me drop my controller and declare it the best game ever.

This song would play during sunset, i would always catch it and just drive around enjoying the beautiful view. I wasnt a big jazzhead at the time but i thought this song was so smooth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwCkpKE1sjk

One time im driving the mafiadons around for a mission at the end of the game before they are going to betray me.
I find that this song is on and i'm super pleased, then one of the npc's mentions

>"if theres anything on the radio i could listen to, its this"

I was FUCKING FLOORED. Dont know how it could have that attention to detail, but It wasn't especially poignant cause we were on the way to the mission when they betray me, and I had a little connection with them right before
>>
How come in IV and V the most interesting missions are the "stranger" missions, that you just find people on the street? Like the one where you spy on the guy's cheating wife, or the one where you help out the junkie girl. These were way more absorbing then the actual story missions. It felt like you were actually doing missions IN THE CITY and not just in set locations, if that makes sense....
>>
>>382953047

the new york ones were all inspired by actual intereactions people either watched or had happen to them while studying for the game.
For instance, In times square a rapper approaches you and tries to sell you his cd. This is SUPER common around that area.

Played every single main GTA within 5 months of their release. I must have spent well over 300 hours in each, save for SA and 4 which I've spent easily 1,000 in.

Here's an actual fucking unbiased fan's opinion on each.

3: Was good fun to do misc shit but campaign was frustrating. Aged like milk.
VC: Same, but the misc shit is a bit less fun, while the campaign's tolerable this time.
SA: Great open world. Great campaign.
4: BEST campaign. Nothing to do once it's done. But it's ok because campaign is long. They should have stuck to these mallcart vehicle controls, way more fun than the arcade shit for kids. Online was amazing, spent most of my playtime in 4 on Airport multiplayer, cars stunting around while helps try to ram them out of the air, meanwhile chucklefucks are pvp-ing in some corner.
5: Best open world, technological marvel. Worst campaign in the series. Online is pure shit as well because they over think everything instead of just putting you into fun multiplayer shit, you have to play a separate campaign, sit in loadscreens, etc.

If you guys were developing GTA Online, how would you have wanted the heists to be like?
>small mini-story introducing the objective and a bit of what you're up against, but not all of it so there are still surprises
>ideally, destructible terrain so the players have tons of options of getting to the objective
>all players spawn in a private overworld where every heist setup objective is on the map and can be done in one sitting however you like
>completing heist setup objectives are very helpful during the finale because they'll give you tools to fuck around with the world and the physics to your advantage, but they are not mandatory to start it
>finale is also on this map and difficulty scales according to number and level of players
>progress is saved after every mini-objective is complete so players can drop in and drop out
>GTA 5 OST, especially We Were Set Up, plays in key moments
>players can meet to decide payouts
Not really sure how to account for trolls though, but players fucking with you online is just a part of the multiplayer experience no matter how infuriating it is, so I don't think anything should be done to mitigate them; if the players don't want to do the heist, then they won't get paid, simple as that

i would make the heists less memey and more realistic/gritty

gta 5's hesits felt like a bad 90s action movie. gta 4 did it right with their "Heat" style heist.

more Scorsese less steven segal
>>
>>382960323
The initial heists should be able to be done solo.

The first heist you literally run in, shoot shit, grab what you can and then you outrun the police.

2 player heists are more of the same, but with a bigger take. maybe some extra steps, like one person watches the hostages while the other player goes for the loot. Maybe a more elaborate police chase that requires the second player to shoot.

3-4 players adds the option to stealth it completely. Players 1 and 2 go in disguised and have to successfully pull of numerous tasks to get to the cash/loot, player 3 has to grab the getaway vehicle with the jamming device and get it to the job before players 1 and 2 make a move and if there is a 4th player, he has to hold up a store or something to keep the police busy. If everything goes right players 1-3 make it back to the hideout with zero police attention.
