It used to be a lot better. Back in the days of the mod, you'd get a fair amount of people who'd work together to get stuff and fire fights were more sporadic and spaced out.

Then Epoch and base building took hold and everyone started hunkering in and at some point either because of familiarity and the lack of threat from the zombies everyone just turned on each other.

I think the zombies didn't present enough of a threat to keep people on their toes and forcing them to work together to survive.

Despite preferring NG over DMC, the copying dark souls is the real problem. I have a fairly low standard for action games, I can enjoy utter shit as long as the controls are fluid, the game play is fast and there's no animation lock ins. Dark souls has systematically dismantled that style of game for this lumpy ponderous movement where the game's pace is controlled by the encounter design and not the player.

As much as this is bait, bad bait even, i actually feel the same when it comes to Witcher 3. I proudly admit that i'm a sucker for well made and edgy story focused AAA RPGs and it's the best game scratching that itch with Dragon Age Origns and Mass Effect 2 being close second. There's been a few things, but development sort of dropped like a rock once DayZ SA came out and cut the community in half.

Most of the patches have been things like readjusting how blood regains over time, or the visual effects for blood loss, or some bug works but there's still not enough zombies to where you need to worry about them, zombies still only walk indoors and are super easy to take care of once you've got any melee weapon, ect, zombies still walk thru doors and walls sometimes, get trapped in the ground.
