Reality? the games are so uneven in their production. One game will be amazing, followed by 2 games that aren't, followed by a game that is absolute garbage, followed by a game that copies the successful one but poorly, etc etc.

They usually have garbage design for the characters and enemy design. The attempts at world building will be autistically thought out (abyss) or absolutely nonsensical (graces f). The sound is alright I guess, nothing stands out to me but nothing is outright offensive.

People buy and enjoy them for the sole purpose that other companies just don't even care any more. SE is shitting the bed with FF and DQ and no one else tries doing jrpgs on that tier anymore.

They are the sega of jrpgs, but I'm talking laaaate Dreamcast era sega, just barely there but arguably the most passionate about doing it, just doing it so poorly you'd wish they'd just stop.

I loved this game too, but does anyone else that the story kinda falls apart after Artorius starts having Innonimat supress everyone's emotions or whatever?

Up to that point it was pretty morally gray; whether people can control their impulses with reason is one of the oldest questions of ethics and so the Abbeys philosphy felt belivable and you couldn't really blame the people for following them and being happy for it even if there's monsters around. It can actually make you wonder if Berubetto is justified in her quest for revenge.

But when the supression field thing comes up Artorius just becomes a crazy asshole that can't deal with people having feelings and being people, and Velvet becomes a heroine that is totally justified in what she does rather than the anti-heroine she was at first.

I guess I'm saying iit should have stayed more like a personal revenge story without the villains having world-menacing anime powers.
