Honestly the problem is not so much that the non-fates/awakening characters are dlc. The problem comes when, like Hyrule Warriors, the characters who are added in as dlc have no inclusion in the story/content and are just there as a bonus. I don't know about other anons but I usually don't like playing games where there's nothing to do. The only games where there's no end goal that I've ever enjoyed are fighting games, smash bros, and overwatch. I've never found myself booting up a musou and playing just for the sake of playing.

HW had this problem in the Wii U version where it got all those dlc characters and none of them had any content to go for whatsoever. In the 3DS version, KOEI even had the wonderful foresight as to re-do the adventure mode content to use the new characters and give them a purpose. So unless they do a "legends" version of FE:W (which is entirely possible), Ike, Lyn, Roy, or whoever they add will just be fluff on the side with no interactions with the other characters and no depth to them besides just playing as them. That's not enough for me.
