Back problems, in the grand scale of how fucked a breed of dog can get from selective breeding, is quite tame.

Bull terriers get mutated skulls and supernumery teeth, bassets has excessive skin and vertebrae problems, boxers get roasted in hot weather due to how their skin/fur has been bred and gets a shitton of cancer, bulldogs literally get almost every known disease to dogs, dachshunds have roughly the same problems as corgis, pugs have breathing problems, heart problems, the overheating that boxers have, and double curl tails often cause paralysis.

There's no doubt that corgis have minor problems associated with breeding, but there are so many other dogs that have problems that calling out corgis for "cruel" breeding in particular is nonsense.

I think the trouble is mostly that plenty of people own a pitbull and do not have any problem at all, and the dog is well behaved.

The mistake people make is to either take one dog and tar the breed for better or worse, or use the common factors of breed to tar all of its scions. The former is very stupid, the latter is smarter but still forgets one basic factor of most breeds: that ANY dog of ANY breed if improperly handled is a threat.

Except pugs, I haven't found a pug that has a jaw framed to actually do anything worse than chew. There's just no strength there even when angry. I still think a pug could probably maul a baby though, so the point stands.

So yeah the breed of pit bulls carries both the physical traits to inflict damage and the general temperament to incite it cause damage but there's more to it than that: What causes a single dog to become dangerous? Is it territory? is it irritability? is it the wrong diet, the wrong excercise, the wrong conditions?

These factors ultimately fall on those who are looking after it: the breeder and the owner. A breeder who sells a pit bull to someone who isn't aware or capable of raising it in appropriate conditions is at fault, the owner is at fault for failing to provide those conditions. "it just lost it" is a pathetic excuse that you always hear dog owners using that somehow implies that an animal that you are directly in charge of can do unpredictable things.

So I don't have a problem with pitbulls, or staffordshire terriers, or bull mastiffs, I have a problem with an owner of a English sheepdog who doesn't excercise and play with it to compensate for a lack of work the dog has been bred for. I have a problem with the owner of a greyhound owner who got it fat, or a owner of a yorkshire terrier who wonders why it keeps fucking losing it when its in a house all day.

While pit bulls can be tamed and treated properly, I think the root of the problem with them is hardwired into their system. The amount of, for the lack of a better term, chemicals that affect their aggression that they gain through their lives while living day to day, or perhaps how their brains work in particular.

I cannot back this assumption up with findings or research, but I've heard of pitbulls that have been a calm, friendly dog for a family and then attacking suddenly with no warning, often times costing someone their life. A month ago I believe an 80 year old fell down in a room with a pitbull there with her, where upon it mauled and killed her not soon after. The pitbull came from a shelter and was trained by the people there if I'm not mistaken, had no signs or records of aggressive behaviors during and before obtaining the dog, and found it safe to put up for adoption.

I think that some people are too stubborn to say that we may have messed up with the breeding of this dog, and try to argue that all breeds are as good as the other. Of course, neglecting the dog and mistreating it can definitely lead to hyper aggression in most if not all breeds, but with the statistics of pitbull attacks when compared to other breeds, I think there's something else affecting them other than dipshits not treating them right.
