Witcher 3 while a technical benchmark and great achievement on the technical standpoint is horribly bland and washed compared to the first game.

White Orchard is a 10/10 location where every quest is connected and they all tell one big story of the village.

Also Gwent (standalone) is a fucking disaster and should never happen. They fired one of the main guys who created it for the base game (Damien Monnier) and the other guy (Rafał Jaki) is not even the main director. Game is in it's absolute worst state currently.

While I do agree TW3 is a bit too dumbed down at least it is moving the genre back to where it should be so the shit they pulled in the likes of Skyrim isn't acceptable any more. Stuff like a plot that is actually engaging, interesting characters, side quests that aren't just generic fetch / go kill this guy etc.

If it means that other developers can't be complacent and actually have to produce something good then I am all for it.

I think CDPR learned this in the DLCs. IIRC, half of the question marks in HoS is related to the Flaming Rose storyline, and like, 5 of them was related to the ofieri quest, and the rest were either connected to individual quests or sidequests.

In BoW, it's even better, where every single question mark is contextualized by the Wine Wars story, the Knight's errand Story, the Grandmaster story, and the 3 Bosses story. There's also layers of stories that intertwine with each other, IIRC, the Mutation guy, the Griffin gear, and one of the 3 bosses' stories actually intertwine. And adding unique dialouge to abandoned settlements and people in distress helped a lot in further contextualizing each individual point in the map.

It's only aggravating when said character is the one you play as.
