I've always loved FE, started with the GBA stuff that finally made it over here and emulated the other good stuff we never got in NA.

I fucking really liked FE:A, played multiple files for literal hours and hours. I finally got Birthright the other day and I really feel underwhelmed. The Dragon MC shit is really fucking lame. It feels like I'm playing a weird Altelier-fag game.

What am I missing? Does this change? I don't want to be a stupid barefoot dragon prodigy. None of the cast is compelling. Hoshido feels lame.

It is a remake and mostly faithful to the original so there is a little bit of weakness in the map designs but the presentation is stronger than the other 3DS games.

I'm gonna be honest, nothing triggers me more than when people say Awakening "saved" the series. Acting as if it's such a good game that it singlehandedly brought it back from the brink of death. It didn't. What saved the series was the waifu mechanics. If it released as a normal FE game with none of that, the series would be as good as dead. You could put anything like Shadow Dragon, Thracia, or PoR in it's place with the exact same plot, characters, and gameplay that they all had, and put in the waifu mechanics Awakening had, and they would have "saved the series". Now obviously I'm exaggerating a bit because the plots wouldn't have worked with the whole "children" bit, but the point is don't act like Awakening was such a quality game. It's good FE, if not a bit too easy, but it's value as an FE game isn't what lead to it's success.

t. Someone who has played Jugdral, GBA, Tellius, and Awakening/Fates. I don't hate the 3ds titles at all. Just a little annoyed when people talk about the older games like they're shit and Awakening picked up the slack or something. They're all good games.

What saved the game was IS finally having enough luck to release a game on a non-dead console at a time where there weren't many games on it, making it prime material, plus finally getting advertisement. Ever since FE64 got canceled, IS has had rotten luck. FE5, FE8, and FE12 come out near the end of their consoles lifespan, while FE9 is on the GameCube, killing its maximum sales, and FE10 comes out the day before Galaxy. And then there's Advance Wars, which dies because, of all things, 9/11 happening the same time it comes out.

Plus, the sales threshold IS needed to make was really not that bad. It was apparently 250,000, which wouldn't be hard to meet. They were scared though, probably because of their rotten luck and lack of help from Nintendo.
