I don't want to accept the fact that I might be growing

I don't want to accept the fact that I might be growing up and losing interest in video games, so I continue to force myself to buy video games that I know that I'll never play in the hopes that it'll reignite the spark for the love of video games that I once had.
>>
Nice fucking blog
>>
>>382897754
It isn't just you. Games don't have that spark any longer. Most things are a copy of a copy now, because those are the only things that draw a surefire profit.
>>
>>382897754
It's over, anon. You're older, games are continually lowering the bar by trying to appeal to the largest audience possible which means year after year of generic "whatever the theme is today" nonsense.

Best bet is to get a hobby in which you can actually create something.

>>
>>382897754
How about you force yourself to play video games instead of buying more?
>>
>>382899052
I've tried that.
>>
>>382899103
Try harder
>>
>>382897754
it's less about games and more about yourself - you lose interest to anything if nobody appreciates your actions (say, most kids play vidya with somebody else - that will be fun for a while, even if the actual game is dull)

now, as adult you feel pretty much alone on subject, since no friends / not a single colleague will bother to discuss it with you / v is not into discussing vidya anymore.

Of course, you'll feel fatigued

If you only have one hobby you're gonna get burned out on it unless you have a mental disorder. It's not healthy for a person to only consume one thing.
People who are on the spectrum or obsessive / compulsive, hoarders etc. can use games as a medium to alleviate those feelings and so it does more for them, but the average person needs more well rounded stimulus. I actually started liking games a lot more when I stopped pressuring myself to "keep up" and play everything I saw people talking about, and only played the games I genuinely wanted to play. I started taking boxing classes and joined a group who run together, and I've been making cooking a hobby instead of a means to an end.
Anyway, all this is to say as you grow older you want to grow in multiple ways, so value your time the best way you can and don't force anything.

2. Play shitty games. They will help you appreciate good games even more
3. Stop being a faggot. I'm a wage slave with a child AND I teach tkd and still have time to enjoy vidya

Go back and play the games you played as a kid. Like any other form of media, at a certain age new games stop having an appeal and you end up only liking what you know you like. Look for other games from around that time too, odds are there are hundreds of great ones you missed.

2017 is a great year so far for games, if you're playing the old shit. Hop on some new shit.

If you're looking for some games that are really special and can blow you away/remind you why you love vidya here are some games over the years that have done that to me, not specific to this year.
>Breath of the Wild (probably my number 1 recommendation to any tired gamer, I was a massive tired gamer before BOTW and I've beaten like 5-6 games in the span of about 2 months since, which is unheard of for me.)
>Nier Automata
>DOOM 2016
>Transistor/Bastion (Isometric action games with different combat systems from the same company, amazing games)
>Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed
>Kid Icarus Uprising
>Dragon Age: Origins+Expansion and DLC
>Hotline Miami
>The Typing of the Dead Overkill
>Trine 1/2
>Sonic Generations
>Super Smash Brothers or really any multiplayer with friends
>Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
>The Vanillaware games (Muramasa, Dragons Crown, Odins Sphere)
>Shovel Knight
>Sleeping Dogs

Alternatively you might be burnt out on games and need to pick up another interest or two or three.

Also the other big thing is that life is too short to play bad games. Just be honest with yourself if you're not having fun with a game dont feel guilty to drop it entirely, I have a "Will never play" category on steam with maybe 50 games in it. Learn from the experience and move on

I don't enjoy playing games because I feel like being 24 years old my life is a race against time. I can't waste a second, I must be as productive as I can. Playing games is not productive. I must write stories or draw or make indie games instead. Except I'm too tired so I never finish anything and must resort to videogames for escapism.
I play games but I don't enjoy them anymore. I only play old games like Midnight Club 2 or GTA 3.

I was getting bored with video games so I stopped playing for a while but deep down I knew it's still my passion I return to.

I increased the difficulty of any new game I played afterwards. For extra enjoyment I sometimes vape a nice bud and replay games I haven't played for a long time. Works like charm. You just have to find your own genres and platforms and ignore what others have to say (like /v/ memeing about TLoU being bad when it's a really good game).

I was just like you, until I realized it wasn't me, it was the fact that most games today are fucking terrible. Most of the big, new AAA are just things I am not interested in, and trying to force myself just made me more and more bored/miserable. I used to grab the new Gears or Uncharted to play with friends since they always peer pressured me into it, but it turns out that was exactly what was making me hate gaming.

Grabbed myself an XRBGmini, got all my old consoles hooked up to it and started playing all the games I liked growing up but also included in all the gems I missed from those eras as well. These games were just about challenge, gameplay and fun, the only goddamn things I want when I pick up a controller. I even gave indi games more of a chance when they really capture that great game design of the past (like shovel knight). I am still collecting old games even now, as it has become my new hobby. I am happier as a person and with gaming.

The only new games I've enjoyed this year have been The Last Guardian and Zelda BotW. Everything else has just been the same dogshit that drove me away from modern gaming. If I don't play another goddamned zombie game, war game, asscreed, Mass Effect, etc., I will die a happier person. Fuck all that shit.

Reading is nowhere near as bad at time taken to learn as speaking and comprehending spoken word. Here's how I went about things on my end.
Learn hiragana (not even how to write, just understand what characters represent what) ---> Lean katakana (same thing) --->
Learn kanji alongside grammar (I say this because if you try just to isolate kanji, you'll wear out quick so it's nice to balance it out with some more practical learning)

Do this for around a month and in theory you should have a decent grasp to read very low level books at the very least.

I'm kind of like that. I have been a severe "tired gamer" and to a lesser extent as of late. I started a new job recently and I've noticed that games seem to be more fun now when I can come home and play them. I also plan to start lifting so it'll be fun playing after I go exercise too.

I think the issue is less about ""growing up"" or being too old for games. It's often within ourselves. I've known for a while that I have pretty severe depression and anxiety issues, so I'm finally taking steps to fight back and I'm noticing I'm enjoying games a bit more as I develop little by little.

tl;dr you didn't outgrow games, you may just need other stuff to focus on aswell

I play old games for the very reason that newer games have zero charm and are obviously oppressed creatively by publishers in order to make sure it rakes in cash. >>
I think it's a mix of not accepting you're simply not okay with playing hours on end now that you have/are supposed to have more responsibilities and new games lacking charisma. We're like vidya Peter Pans, unable to accept that we can't just rely on one single thing to have a comfy life anymore. It was so much simpler while we were teens.

But I still like some games as much or even more than I enjoyed older ones, it's just that the pool of games I enjoy has gotten smaller. I may spend an entire year without playing anything and then get hooked on something nice. I also can't play stuff that requires too much grinding because I have to spend a lot of time studying, and that's okay.

nah, you're just burned out. or looking in the wrong places.

there's still a small amount of good games coming out every season and the backlog across multiple platforms is enough to last you a lifetime, and that's without modding shit.

of course, if all you like is extremely niche games or a genre that barely sees new entries regularly, then you're fucked but in such cases trying to broaden your horizons might be a good idea. i for one ain't into racing games much, but NFS underground 1/2 and the burnout games absolutely hooked me up and motorstorm is pretty cool as well. you might also be stressed from work/studying which affects your enjoyment of entertainment.

but most important: there is no such thing as "growing out" of videogames and such. if you legit believe age has anything to do with it you're either playing the wrong games or you're giving too much attention to social norms and how society will percieve you, and that's one of the single worse decisions you can make.
>>
>>382902312

>>382897754
you didn't grow out, you just have one of these two problems:

1) too much time to play. if all you do is play or you're a neet and such, you'll obviously get burned out and bored of doing only one thing. get a job or a hobbbie or anything, the less time you have to play the more you'll value it, and shifting your focus to something else will make games "freshen up" when you do come back. this also works wonders for slowing your pace leaving time for more good games to come out.

2) you're playing the wrong games. you know when you love psychological movies and such but sometimes you just want some good old over-the-top action movie with explosions and cheesy lines and cool slow-mo scenes? same thing. step out of your niche and grab some silly "epic" game or somethig liek a DMC or God of War and go crazy. this is especially true if all you play are strategy/puzzle games with lots of numbers and so on. sometimes a man just needs some sick combos and grand action.
>>

>>
>>382910585
why is it being structured like the 1rst Zelda a good thing? i mean i like the classic ones as much as the next guy but structuring a new game after a classic doesn't make it good. if anything a new structure might have been better, Zelda has been too formulaic for too long.

>let's you play how you want
so? that's maybe good compared to other Zeldas but in general it's absolutely nothing impressive, like the whole game actually. people act like it's a godsend whhen it's just a big mix of things other open-world games have been doing for ages.

Bowhunting, learn to use a compound bow and feed the old caveman genes that are built in you. Takes a few minutes to shoot at target, a few weeks to learn proper posture and aiming, and years to learn hunting with luring, tracking, movement, camping, cooking etc. Always a new "quest" ahead to fill your head with.

Psilocybin mushrooms/cannabis cultivation and then eating/vaporizing dried material you grew for yourself.

Adderall, Valium and Pizza.

Also, I'm 31, don't work and go to college full-time. I fuck 18-21 year old grillz, play interesting narrative heavy games and get $14,000 a year in grant and scholarship money.

Add that to the $16,000 a year in disability get and I live better than a lot of people with jobs.

Been doing this since 2011; I'm literally Van Wilder.

Same thing happened to me but in part it's acutally a good thing. When i was a kid i wanted to buy every single game out there and stuff and i called myself "gamer". but now i only care about a few games, i don't care if BOTW is ~le best game ever made, i just don't wanna play it, i don't care about the culture and gamer thing anymore. Right now i just want to buy mirror's edge catalyst because i liked the first one i played on xbox360, and then need for speed payback because nfs is still one of my favorite franchises and i don't care if EA is literally hitler or whatever. i think the disappointment i had with videogames on the last 5 years was a good thing. getting to call myself "someone who plays videogame sometimes" instead of calling myself "~le gamer" really changed my life for better.

>>
A) Take some time off gaming (like a month)
B) Take some time off /v/ (constant negativity will make you immediately cynical towards a new game because this place makes you into a retard)
C) Try a new, unrelated hobby. As other have said, exercise is great. I picked up running, home brewing, etc. Pick some shit that tickles a different part of your brain basically.
D) When you return, avoid shit like MMOs. I have seen too many people get hooked on that shit, and hate every game they come across, even the MMO. MMOs are cancer.

>>382905103
i agree.
>>
>>382915497
I eat through games too fast. Only MMOs that are pay2win where you can actually get everything premium if you work way too much grinding fill my quota.
Every other good game lasts me from 10-100 hours so I finish them lightning speed fast and have way too much free time.
No need to work here.

The thing I learned about tired gamer syndrome, or the same thing without any other hobby really, is that it can be caused by taking completionism and your backlog too seriously.

Like if there's a game that you really want to play, but you feel like before you can you need to complete the thing you're currently playing, or work on your backlog, or play all the previous entries in this new game's series, just forget all that shit and play the game you want to play and you'll have the most fun and will probably be likely to actually finish it that any of the games that you're just forcing yourself to play.

something that helped me a lot was volunteering at various rare animal shelters, such as wolf sanctuaries or birds of prey. It feels good to help protect endangered animals and there is less stress than normal animal shelters, since they're protected and you don't have to worry about animals being put down.

I also make a hobby out of going to yard sales and then seeing if I can make a profit off of the item online. There are tons of families that sell their kids video games or have old systems that you can sell.

I have a problem, I feel guilty when I play games. I always feel like I should be doing something else and am just putting off whatever that something else is. Sometimes I'll replay a game I like multiple times, and then I feel guilty for doing that, like I shouldn't be spending so much time on one game. Why do I feel guilty no matter what I do?
Also traps are gay.
>>
>>382927537
You've internalized that vidya is inherently bad, even though there are several other activities of no greater value that you might not feel guilty about (such as reading genre fiction: no more valuable but you perceive reading as better)
>>
>>382897754
Video games and cartoons are for children, so what you're feeling is completely natural.
>>
There are nights where I just feel this weird block on whatever I do. This mental block that just seems to drain me whenever I play games. I'll load something up and just end up going bleeeeeeeeh and stop playing and then do nothing but fuck around online. Its annoying. My friends all moved into ark so I'm stuck behind hoping one of them strikes a mood for a game of league.
>>
>>382927537
you feel guilty because you're entering a period of your life where the normal, accepted reality is that people are either in college or graduating and getting into their careers. People are making things of their lives and you're most likely feeling the pressure to do the same, because you realize if you don't you're not going to have a future. Video games are fun but you realize you're being left behind now that nobody in your age group plays them as much as you and it's not as normal as when you were younger.

It's a pretty harsh reality to face, but one that's inevitable. It doesn't mean you have to stop gaming, but you should try to find other things to do that give you a feeling of fulfillment, be it through getting a job, going to school, learning a language to get an upper hand in a good job, traveling, volunteering, getting a hobby, etc.
>>
>>382927331
Only if you accept it. Depends on your goals in life but even a very expensive entry point of a hobby is manageable with steady income in a low paying job. You need proteins, vegetables and fats along with daily HIIT training. One step at a time. If you don't have weights, fill bottles with water, improvise. Work on your body and your mind will work better in the end. Experiment with psychedelics (DMT and psilocybin mushrooms) and pure sativa strains of cannabis to gain some insights about yourself and expand your open-mindeness. Find a job, work up from there. One step at a time fag. If you think your life is over because you are not millionaire or you don't have a romantic partner you are delusional pleb.
>>
>>382928439
>Experiment with psychedelics (DMT and psilocybin mushrooms) and pure sativa strains of cannabis to gain some insights about yourself and expand your open-mindeness.
Don't fucking do this. Ever.

You tell him in one part to work on making his mind and body healthy, and then turn around and tell him to fuck his mind up with drugs.
>>
>>382928439
To what end?
>>
>>382929174
It's obvious you don't know what you are talking about. There is literally nothing wrong on DMT or psilocybin mushrooms. They are great for depression and the open-minded aspect is retained throughout the years after a single dose. The abuse potential of psychedelics is very low as they are not addictive and the experiences are not really something to be experienced daily. Sativa strains of cannabis are perfect for introspection and physical work like weightlifting or cardio.

The three worst drugs are already legal (alcohol, nicotine and various sugar products). Just because something is called a drug or just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's bad.

My problem is that i'm too obsessed with my favorite game series (i'm ashamed to name it). I'm even writting a "gameplay fanfic" (ideas i have to improve the gameplay). You can find recipes online on how to extract DMT from various grasses with 1-2% yielding enough for multiple breakthrough trips. Mushrooms are safer to cultivate or just purchase in Netherlands though.

>>382930136
That's because you are depressed.

>>382930038
>>382930412
People who never experienced a psychedelic trip on a powerful substance like DMT are in many ways still children. You can't understand it if you haven't experienced it. People like Terence McKenna or even Joe Rogan talk about this subject in detail if you are interested beyond memeing about drugs being bad.

You need drugs to enjoy life btw, just because your drugs keep you sober in your frame doesn't make your choice any better.

>Heroin is worse than all of that
But it isn't. Prohibition of heroin is what makes it worse. Pure med grade heroin with proper education is very cheap and pretty much manageable but that's not what the market is about. I wouldn't advice for heroin however, but I wouldn't ban it either. Considering most people die to tobacco products and heart diseases I'd say heroin is much safer option for the society in general and its use actually declines when other options are available (like psychedelics and cannabis). The first world will soon hit the 1:2 diabetes ratio because liquid diabetes with 41g of sugar in a 0,5L can (much of it in fructose) is the number one brand of the world and 67% of population is overweight or obese. Just check out the work of Carl Hart, he studied medicine to help his community with addiction problem and then as a doctor discovered there is no general issue with addiction when it comes to drugs, even addictive drugs like cocaine. Yeah, some people are alcoholics too, but generally people can handle their addictions well enough to function properly in their society and alcohol is legal.

>Telling someone to do this isn't good advice
