I think it will reach 10 million sales that's a given, but how far beyond that who knows. I think consumers are starting to realize when you buy Nintendo in the console space you're really buying the hardware to play their games and really not much else and consumers are accessing and responding to how valueable it is for them.

If I hadn't bought the wii U I would feel more warmly toward the Switch but again it's the value proposition, Nintendo hardware and games are extremely costly and there just happens to be a plethora of games releasing on other systems for a lot cheaper so I rather spread my money across the slew of releases throughout the year rather than spend all of it on a few games and a Nintendo console but that's just me and many people with far more versatile wallets could probably justify doing both but I can't.

To me the Switch doesnt seem like a console of true value and might not be that way for a long time but we will see. I don't think I could justify buying any system this current generation based solely off first party/exclusive content, a system for me at least needs to be well rounded and have a big library and pool of games to choose from weather it is second, third, first party or cross gen titles. I'm just rambling but yeah, interested to see how the Switch turns out and weather I'll pick it up at some point.

It might just be in my country but the wiiU costed the same as a PS4/XB1 and both consoles would often go on sale for cheaper despite the wii U having lesser hardware. Nintendo software never goes down in price either, I could pick up Bloodborne and SunSet Over Drive for lower than $10 but software such as 3D Land or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze will literally never go lower than $10 off RRP where $60 is the standard, Their software retains their value because the quality thing associated with Nintendo I think but the paywall to Nintendo games here is just astronomical and this is ENTIRELY personal opinion but I didn't really what I played on the wiiU was ground breaking kinda, I don't know if the pricing stuff is the same in the US like my country though, maybe not and maybe then I would find it easier to get Nintendo stuff as well as mainstream consoles and games too.

Core gaming seems to be kinda dead in Japan and is indeed dying in the west, I think DQXI PS4/3DS will give us insight to how deep the issue goes in regards to that seeing as how mobile friendly Japan already is.

I don't know if the games as a service or touch and go/portable/mobile gaming thing will continue to eat away at core games but it makes me sad. If I'm going to play DQXI I'd want to sit infront of a nice big TV and bask in all it's visual glory but many people dont seem to want that anymore

People think "Nintendo things never drop in price" is a valid thing to analyze the market for, when the vast, vast majority of purchases for any game usually happen in the first few months, if not weeks, when the prices are likely to be at their highest. It's not something to defend as a consumer, but it's not something you can point to as something the general market has a problem with. Look at the scalping situation with the Switch. If scalpers are selling switches for even $350, much less the more commonly seen attempts at $400 then that means the market is actually supporting a higher price than Nintendo's own MSRP. From a general consumer perspective it's shitty. And saying things like "scalpers ensure there's supply" is stupid. They're not providing a valuable service to anyone but people willing to pay more. There's no difference between a customer who buys it from the retailer for the MSRP and one who buys it from a scalper for $100 above that, it's all the same to the market. The exact same supply got sold. Scalpers are no more good for the market than any other consumer. From a business perspective, as long as the item sells, it doesn't matter whether it's to an actual customer or then resold higher or even trashed.
