Was Skyrim the beginning of the end of mainstream gaming? I didn't believe gaming was as cancerous as it'd be before this game came out. My eyes were opened after Reddit salivated and circlejerked over every detail of this game. I glimpsed the fall of gaming and I've been a husk of a man ever since shitposting on this board ever since.
>>
>>382893539
I'd say it was more the peak of the end, gaming was going downhill for a while and this game was the culmination of all those shitty trends packaged up in a single title.
>>
i remember setting this up when i was 12 with my very first console for my birthday, the 360, whoa
>>
>>382893539
Bethesda has always been the vanguards of every single bad thing that happened to this industry

DLC? You can thank Oblivion for that
RPG storylines holding your hand 24/7? Fallout 3
Every single game being open world? Skyrim

I'm sure Todd is probably with Pete Hines and the rest of Bethesda right now thinking what's the next big cancer they could unleash
>>
>>382893896
Paid mods is next.
>>
>>382892290
what has skyrim actually influenced?
>>
>>382892290
This game either gets too much shit or too much praise much like Bethesda themselves. Both are nice. Nice. Not dogshit terrible. Not greatest of all time epic. Nice. Good. Flawed but good.

I really don't understand why Bethesda is so terribly overrated and criticised at the same time. People really see something in that company I don't. Great writing? When did Bethesda show a knack for that? They're a games studio who make somewhat cobbled together worlds that have some interest, hardly masters of their craft who create polished gems.
>>
>>382894721
They're criticized because they're overrated, it's a chicken and egg situation. Anytime someone says something is "the best thing ever" there will be someone else to say "well, no, it's not, for these reasons" person A will then take that as the person saying skyrim is shit, which will make the entire conversation devolve into basically the two of them saying "fuck you it's great" and "fuck you it's shit" and then you just multiply that across the internet and you'll come to understand why the game is so polarizing

Still can't believe those greedy fiends are trying to give modders some kind of compensation for the work they do.
>>
animations are terrible, writing is terrible, combat is god awful, leveling perks are just all over the place unbalanced. What's even left to praise? That you can walk from one side of the map to the other? The environments are also completely barren so that's not really a plus, you only walk to a new location to put it on your fast travel.

You and I both know that isn't what they're trying to do Mr. Shitpost. This bait gets more tiresome every-time it's posted.
>>
>>382892290
There already was. Witcher 3.
>>
>>382894948
Well a lot of people talk of how Bethesda could do this and that, how the story could improve in this or that way which implies they're capable of greatness or maybe were great. Not shitting on them but there's this implication the storytelling we've got isn't the best we're gonna get which it absolutely is. Sure you can daydream about how Bethesda will write some deeply thought out story but it just ain't gonna happen.

Any other developer and people would just move on but for some reason this one gets people saying what if more than others.
>>
>>382894721
>I don't understand why bethesda is so criticized
Bethesda releases games with:
>no gameplay
>Extreme hand holding
>Ancient evil awakens story
>Horse armor dlc, practicallly invented microtransactions
>Paid mods
>No content
>Insane amount of glitches
>Blatantly lie about the games before release
>>
>>382894961
>$2 pizza tastes like ass but you can buy red pepper flakes dlc for 50 cents
>>
>>382895257
I think it's a combination of nostalgia for their earlier entries in the elder scrolls series, and nostalgia for good fallout writing. Both of which are never going to happen again because everyone involved in both those projects have basically either never worked at Bethesda or have left the company now.

I think people just want Bethesda to use the property they have to the fullest, which like you said will never happen, but it's sad because it feels like the company is holding them captive.

>>
>>382895274
Read again. Criticised and praised. Both value the company far too highly. The praise make out they're great and the criticism laments their failings as if they're capable of greatness. Maybe greatness is the wrong word. Sophistication and depth maybe are better words. So many wasted empty words on the Civil war quest. I very much doubt they put any thought into that nor are capable or even willing to put such thought into it.

I think it's about time people stop wishing Bethesda were something they're not and just accept them as another quirky developer who make somewhat interesting games.

Skyrim doesn't even come close to minecraft.

PUBG might also become more influential but it's too soon to knwo for sure

I feel as if I'll get my point across better with an example thinking of story.

Take Boy in the Fridge in Fallout 4. Lots of people talking about the lore of it, how it's wrong. Pete Hines not taking fans seriously.
People there assumed Bethesda have this big chart with lore and that they take it seriously or that it should be taken seriously when in actuality that is absolutely not the case and that quest proves it. No one at Bethesda thought about the boy lasting or ghouls. Fucking autists were bringing up some example in 2. No one at Bethesda looked back to 2, what the fuck are these people thinking? It was just a goofy idea they put in because it's goofy.

See what I'm talking about. People think they're crafting some epic fiction when it's just guys stringing together some half-baked ideas.

you mean DayZ that inspired all these DayZ clones (including battle royale)

A better analogy would be if pizza places started charging for Parmesan cheese, salt and red pepper flakes after them being free for so long at every pizza place.
>>
Just started replaying the SE version yesterday after not having played Skyrim since early 2013 and I added a ton of graphic mods and I must say, it's a lot of fun. Waaaaaaay better than fallout 4 and honestly feels like a palet cleanser after fallout 4.
I did play Enderal though and Enderal is IMO one of the best games (I know it's a mod but may as well be a game) I've ever played and is by far the most beautiful looking game I've ever played for sure. How come Bethesda keeps getting BTFO by third party devs who edit their game?

Skyrim has an equally shallow exploratory and storytelling experience as FO4. There is no way you can think otherwise.
There is no way you can shit on FO4 without shitting on Skyrim.
>>
>>382894961

This analogy doesn´t hold up at all.
more like I´m selling brakes because the bike you bought doesn´t have any. Manufacturer is like ooh that is a good idea quick give us a cut on the money.

Dayz was obviously a influential game, but it never reached consoles.

PUBG probably will, and will probably sell very well. This could cause normal triple AAA devs to start making battle royale style games
>>
>>382896871
Atleast skyrim plays like an actual RPG though. There are many ways to solve problems, many more dialog choices and many builds to try, encouraging multiple play throughs.

Fallout 4 was basically another Farcry game. Almost no dialog choices and the only "RPG" aspect is a skill tree. Armor and weapons almost never seem to matter no matter what the stats are and The entire game is "Go here, kill these people, collect materials for your base, build said base".
Fallout 4 is boring and everyone will have the same play through.
Skyrim is exciting and every time you play it you will discover things you've never seen before even on your 380th play though.

I have over 300 hrs in skyrim and I can say for certain that the 5 euro I spent on it were very well invested.
>>
>>382897297
True, I should have clarified. Vanilla is a little boring because it looks outdated. Mods make it fun again by making it feel more modern. But regardless, it's still a much better game than Fallout 4.

pornmods?

a little down the road in the bike factory: Time to make a new bike.
Right what about brakes should we implement them now?
Why? leave them out and sell them after for extra cash.
Also let some poor idiots do it for half the money.

I just uninstalled Skyrim after modding it again.
Should I just switch to SE because it's 64 bit or install oblivion to play Nehrim, and then Enderal?
>>
>>382894961
Fuck off. You know well that they don't want to keep mods quality. It will literally be armors with textured made in paint for 4.99$ They even talk about it in the video "new weapons" and "even new gameplay mechanics". Forget about mods that are like expansion. They will never happen in Creation Club.
Also their video literally has HORSE ARMOR in one of the things in the shop. They fucking know what they are doing. They laugh in your faces because people will buy this shit anyway, thanks to how mainstream gaming is now.
>>
It must be doing something right, they keep re-releasing it.
>>
>>382897868
skyrim SE was a mistake, there're no mods for it and skse is porting to SE extremely slowly.
