I use to play the hell out this game back in 2007 in Nigeria with my friends and cousins. At the time I never knew the game was shitted on until I came back to America in 2011. My uncle was the best player at the game but we never got to beat the game past world 7 because the devil hand boss refuse to load. Also we didn't have any memory card so all that precious save data was gone. I was surprised we even made it that far by taking turns. Usually power outage just happens and that it for a playthrough attempt.

My moveset I made got the first stage of the final boss in a stun lock and I purchased that really expensive move on a whim but it turns out you need it to beat the second stage of the final boss. Lucky win, only took me two tries to beat the final boss.

Replayability? Shut the hell up. It has two vastly different modes that can be played fresh or NG+ and many ways to add disciplines to your playthrough like kick me sign or no standing dodge or handicap yourself in a specific way with the customization moveset. I do a hard run of God Hand like every year, and yes that means I have to do the first run on normal if I've lost my old save file.

Graphics were fine for characters, garbage for everything else. Already talked about the story, controls sucked, the camera was practically glued to your back which made even a simple 30 degree turn in either direction a slow plodding mess. Kind of like Resident Evil 4 except 50x harder and therefore 50x more annoying. Don't know why you bother replaying it either. Well I mean I know but the second I realized I'd have to rebuy every move I had and reearn all the money I had I put the game away and never touched it again. It just wasn't fun enough.

my favorite thing about God Hand is that I never had to wish to forget it so I can play it blind, every playthrough I've done has been an absolute fucking blast every single time

This is my favorite single-player game. Bought it on release on a whim because I saw who was involved in making it. I'm honestly baffled at how such a complex and rewarding game got made. From what I understand, Mikami got free reign to do whatever the fuck he wanted due to the success of RE4, and so he decided to make a game specifically for himself.

I understand why a lot of people don't seem to get it. It's so deep it takes like 1-2 playthroughs worth of experimentation just to fully understand the basic mechanics. Basically nothing's explained to you. It's worth it though, this is the ONLY game I've played that actually makes me feel like I'm in a martial arts movie and not just mashing buttons for canned actions.

It's weird because despite being such a quirky game its combat is grounded in this sense of realism. Unlike a lot of action games where you're flying around the screen, in this one you have to carefully control your space and positioning. I think that's what really gives you the sense of being in a fight. I used to practice a lot of martial arts back in college, and besides actual fighting games God Hand is the only game I've played that accurately conveys that feeling of spacing of timing.

The reliance on generators is still a thing even when revisited the country back in Christmas of 2015. In the village areas of country 100% need the generator because getting electrcity is very rare and is very random. It was very risking to use my ps3 there back because for one my shit use to overheat like crazy because volt differences despite it universal and my hard craps on its self from the console not being turned of.

The country has changed alot tho. There are places with 72mbps WiFi and 4gb data.

You can map every special attack you unlock to any button. They can combo into each other. You can cancel combos.

Now once you have exhausted every button, you then add inputs. You now have a special attack on Quarter circle back [button], Quarter circle forward [button], half circle forward/back [button] , quarter circle backward- down-back-forward [button] etc etc
And you do this for 5 different characters with 5 extremely different play styles.

It is immensely satisfying and quickly become my favourite 2D action game of all time

God Hand, at least on your first playthrough, is more about patience than anything else.

you naturally get through everything if you just keep smashing your head against the wall.
