hell no. neckbeards on here will say it's better than V because it's old but it aged almost as bad as a TES game and it's extremely tedious. the protagonist and tone are pretty cool though.

One of my more favorite things about GTA IV was the story, characters and feel. The pause music pretty much perfectly encapsulates this.

The dark and sinking tone of the music reminds me of how much of the same can be said about crime ridden Liberty City. GTA V obviously has better gameplay since the benefit of it being a sequel, but if you're into a great story with good characters I would have to say GTA IV is better than GTA V.

V lost all IV's polish, all SA's fun countryside, and has among the worst cops in the series by pure unfun bullshit potential
gameplay wise they're basically comprable, maybe some cars handle differently and there's no autoflip in IV, and the world is bigger and you can swim underwater in V
also GTA:O jewery knocks V down like a dozen pegs
story in both is retarded tedium, nico is more interesting than trevor and the black kid, mike is so so i guess, but those fucking phone calls from your friends in IV are shit
overall I liked 4 better but just play SA at that point

People that say it looked like muddy shit never touched the contrast slider, if you put that shit almost to the top the game looks a lot better. Also IV had actually funny jokes, complex characters, nuanced storyline even though the main villain is a little weak desu.

IV had more satisfying driving, it was more difficult to master and made you feel like a god in races against people that weren't good at it, and the auto flipping in V is fucking retarted, but you have to admit V's driving is a straight up improvement. IVs is just more fun because it has a higher skill ceiling, its not better

They're mostly fucking boring. how many of the missions involving driving Trevor around empty deserts listening to annoying wade meme dialogue
How many involve 'driving" boats/planes/submarines/bicycles/swimming where your only input is just holding R2 or tapping X
How many involve just driving somewhere and walking around listening to fucking Lester

IV's missions all have somewhat of a point and have interesting dialogue and set pieces. Even vanilla IV which isn't as exciting as TLAD and TBOGT have fun missions because instead of relying on meme set pieces it actually has fun gameplay that works WITH the missions.

GTAV has a mission where you just run through and shoot people. It tries to make it cool by giving you armour. All it does is make you hear invincible, removing any challenge, and slows you down. This isn't fun it's just the equivalent of putting colours and pictures on a kids math test to make it exciting.

IV has meaty weapons, your enemies ragdolling when you hit them. Cars are weighty and fun to whip around LC. The missions use these mechanics and they're actually fun while also proving story. There's car chases and shootouts that are fun and that's what GTA was always about, not that meme military shit V does to entertain kiddies

I had much more fun with the arcadey, lightweight cars in V than the weighty, heavy ones in IV. Same with the guns. Combat != guns.

The point of the particular mission you're referencing is to take as little damage as possible to get as much money as possible. I cannot speak for you on this, I didn't like the insane amount of health you had either.

The heists, aside from the first and the last, were all total shit.

IV felt weird after VC and SA and even somewhat of a letdown. The latter especially given how epic and outlandish parts of the story became. They probably knew they couldn't or shouldn't top that so went for a more gritty story which suited the Liberty City setting more.

This. Original Mafia is the GOAT game if you care about writing, characters and good story.

GTA's on the other hand are supposed to be fun and silly games. GTA 4 was too boring and serious without offering anything spectacular on the story department. Its still the only GTA i have ever completed only once, and the only one where i have spent more time doing story missions than fooling around and having fun.
