Think of it primarily as a handheld.
It has only 1 (one) worthwhile NEW game out right now, and it costs almost 400-fucking-dollars.

If you REALLY want one, I'd wait till at least the new Mario or Xenoblade is out so you have more than Breath of The Wild, the average at best Arms, and a bunch of repackaged ports to play.

Otherwise wait for a price drop.

It took me 3 years before I was AT ALL interested in buying a PS4 since its release in 2013.

Breath of the Wild, the best Mario Kart game in MK8D, Splatoon 2 later this month. All of this would be new for you. Those arent some shit titles.

Additionally, ARMS isnt terrible with regular controls as it feels like a beefed up punchout. Fire Emblem Warriors and Pokken will soften the blow until Xenoblade 2 and Super Mario Odyssey come out at the end of the year. And thats not even counting all the indie shit.

We know Fire Emblem (a true game), Pokemon, and Metroid Prime 4 are coming in 2018 or 2019.

Animal Crossing and Pikmin 4 will probably come. We will likely get the Smash Deluxe port in there somewhere (with new Arms and Splatoon characters) and probably a Mario Maker port as well.

Potential wise, that's not bad. And thats not even considering any other new shit they want to try (you never know with Nintendo)

Will they bring back Advance Wars or Golden Sun/StarTropics? Will we get some new IPs? They have plenty to work with in the future. Also we will likely get a BotW sequel by 2020 (they spent 5 years working on that new zelda engine; might as well use it again but with new assets and story)

Those are obviously just opinions but I feel like Nintendo has really let the bar drop on most of their games. They shine up and polish a couple games per platform to stellar levels and then they rest on those while releasing a bunch of medicore games. I'm afraid the Switch has already seen its best games with Odyssey and BotW. It's just very unlikely it'll get more games that outdo them. Before you say Prime 4, the Prime trilogy is generally pretty disappointing. I would only include the first one on a list of generation defining games
