I was a few dollars short for Underground so I bought this instead. I know it's repetitive and shit but at least it's not a broken buggy mess like Underground

>>
>>382858174
It's really nothing special at all. Most if not all of the praise comes from people latching onto it because it's marketed as a 2D Dark Souls.
>>
Are there any other good metroidvanias on sale? I already bought Hollow Knight.

If your taste is anything like mine, I have carefully sifted through thousands of games on steam over the last 2 years.

maybe you'll find something you enjoy off my library / follows / wishlist.

*cough* and lowkey throw a One Finger Death Punch my way if anybody has one lying around in their inventory

You actually bother looking through the queue? I just continually click next to get the cards and don't bother with it when it's not sale time.

I don't recommend Subnautica at all. It's an early access game and still plays like one.

2 is great although it can get quite difficult, 3 is also good and has some remade missions from 1. For around 2 bucks each I think they're more than worth
Most likely skip 1, its quite clunky and dated, missions are way less flexible, and most arent that good honestly
>>
Is Arma fun on singleplayer alone? I am interested but feel it takes so much to get into that multiplayer would be a bad experience
>>
>>382858980
Only bother with the last two and maybe outlast, halo wars has 0 players, and exiles is early access trash.
>>
>>382858891
Damned is good for a while. I don't think a lot of people still play it, but there are usually enough people to make a lobby and get a game. Maybe if it was like $3.
>>
>>382858939
Blood money and tm are the best two games in the series. Absolution is the worst. Contracts and silent assassin is same in quality. And just a bit below bm and tm. But they are good games. I suggested silent assassin because i like it more

Penumbra Games (I prefer them over Amnesia even if it's from the same developers, story is crazy good)

Layers of Fear. Let me think of others
>>
thinking about getting nier automata and TitS SC but they're still pretty pricey
>>
>>382859238
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
>>
>>382858891
FEAR is pretty good if you don't have that, but it's only has occasional horror bits.
Get Higurashi if you don't mind VNs.
>>
>>382858212
both are great games, plus if you don't like them you can get a refund.

Nier Automata is great all around IMO; great gameplay, great plot, great music, great characters and backstories and attention to detail.

Zero Escape trilogy is great as well, but only play if you enjoy lots of reading and visual novels at least to some degree; the characters are fun and the plot is fun as well and pretty macabre/dark. However, gameplay wise it's just a visual novel with some clicking around a room and 'puzzle' solving.

>>382858439
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight is great and only $7. Dust is okay if you can ignore furry pandering/characters and it's going for $2. Dead Cells of course is popular atm too, it's pretty challenging.

I also recommend Shantae (not sure if on sale or not though) if you haven't played it yet, along with Axiom Verge and Valdis Story.

Also Ori and the Blind Forest is good, although I didn't personally enjoy it as much as I thought I would (on sale for $9 I believe).
>>

This depends on you. There are lots of singleplayer content but wether you'll like it or not idk. People play arma to get the military feel which is best when played with a squad.
>>
>>382858174
It's very good and assuming you can get past the art for faces it's very atmospheric.

Combat is solid, hits feel like they have impact and the platforming never gets stale.

why do you even want infinite? just pirate it if you want to play it. it should get no more money
>>
>>382859557
Momodora is definitely a lot of fun, Dead Cells is definitely a lot of fun but it is early access.

I haven't gotten too much into it yet to get the plot, but the game is pretty much what they promise in the summary,"To beat the game, you’ll have to master 2D "souls-lite combat" with the ever-present threat of permadeath looming. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat."

the game is pretty brutal and you constantly have to learn from your mistakes, like Dark Souls. It reminds me a bit of Rogue Legacy but this is definitely a lot better

>>382859598
I didn't think much of it but I'm having a blast; it plays similar to Hyper Light Drifter and some other metroidvanias. Gameplay kind of reminds me of Ys as well, story wise it's similar to Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana.
>>
>>382860371
Bioshock, its not as good as the older ones but still a good game in ny opinion

>>
>>382861320
Trails in the Sky is very good, but you are getting one third of the game with that one, so unless you really want to try it, wait and get it together with SC.

Dangan Ronpa is fantastic, very fun all around with little pacing issues. The cast is diverse and the cases are actually manageable to solve on your own, with some being really spectacular. If you've played Phoenix Wright, it's kind of like that (though very different in a lot of aspects, it's just the closest game).

DOOM is quite short, and it seems like it's price will go down so I wouldn't rush unless you really want to play it.

Just get DQH2 if you want that, it's the same with more.

So yeah, I'd go with Dangan Ronpa. Do consider that 1 and 2 are mostly separate, so you could get 1 alone to try it out, and you'd get a full game.
>>
>>382861320
If you can afford $30, buy Doom and one of the cheaper games.

>>382861573
Haven't played Ghost Trick, but a lot of people compare the gameplay to Ace Attorney if you've played that. The plot is a lot different though.

The redux was washed down for modern kiddies.human enemies didn't hear you even when you were running. As long as you're in the dark you're invincible. The atmosphere was much better on the original. The stealth was better. The only thing redux has over the original is gun customization. Also voice acting. The changed the voice actors from the original.

>>382859736
If you haven't gotten them yet, for strategy get Might & Magic Clash of Heroes (very addicting gameplay) or Disgaea (level characters up to 9999, turn based strategy, Phantom Brave is by same people and also great). Recettear is micro/money management and can be considered strategy RPG and is a lot of fun. Valkyria Chronicles is another turn based strategy I'd recommend, although I don't think it plays as well on PC personally.

If you haven't played Ys games yet, get on it, they're great action RPGs with metroidvania qualities. Hyper Light Drifter and Cross Code are great too, they've been hyped for a reason. Gurumin is a pretty fun action RPG if you have a controller and like anime/cutesy visuals.

Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky is a great, very expansive RPG with a lot of content, same with Grandia. They're more old school gameplay but worth a check.

LiEat is also worth checking out if you like cute pixels and demon girls.

Those are ones I can think of off the top of my head since they've been selling pretty well, but I tried to include some you might not have heard of.
I'll also go out on a limb and say if you haven't played Nier Automata to give it a try, my personal GoTY.

>>382860163
have you played a tales game before? they all play the same for the most part, give or take. trails in the sky is great if you're into turn based rpgs, dragon quest heroes wasn't very good IMO but that's just me, it plays nothing like previous games in the series.

out of those I'd narrow it down to Tales or Trails in the Sky

>>382860431
VA-11 HALL-A is good, but be warned it's extremely over hyped. The ambiance is nice but the gameplay gets boring fast, all you really do is make drinks.

Just change some settings in the .ini file to unlock 60fps and make the revive prompts work fine and thats it. You can find them on steam forums and just copy and paste there and then you're all set. Controller works right out of the box

Trails is only on PSP up to the second entry though, the third one is PC only so take that in mind. I'm a bit of an autist, so I prefer playing a series on the same platform, especially since Trails are direct sequels, kind of like one humongous game chopped into three huge games.

I'd lean on DR, but that's just because I'm not a big fan of FPS. It takes some time to get used to the artstyle, and the cases are easier than PW's which seems bad at first. I ended up liking it more than PW because each case felt more personal, and the murders themselves are more interesting.

They pretty much just change the combo systems in each game and have different characters, although I have heard that Berseria had a great plot and you'd be getting a lot of gameplay out of it.

The same goes with Trails in the Sky, I originally got 200+ hours out of it, the gameplay stays fun because of its strategy elements, characters, and story. It's a massive game, with a lot of content.

I'm probably more biased towards Trails in the Sky just because most Tales games the last few years have been pretty boring and bland because of their horrible plots, and for some reason I can't trust /v/ that it's gotten any better.

part of me believes it's only gotten good reviews because the main character is female, but listen to your heart anon and go with whichever you find more interesting.

Japanese otaku are dedicated to their hobby, so they are used to paying ridiculous prices for their games. Japanese companies don't need to lower prices and they'll still rake in cash.

Still, give them time and they'll be cheaper. Or just pirate them, they are rarely hard to.

Understandable, Hollow Knight looks like it'd really take some "getting into" to really like it.
Super Meat Boy is tried and true though, not super complex, but very tight and satisfying gameplay. I don't think you need to be a platformed fan to enjoy it even. Have fun!

Starbound is fun and still being updated by the mods with new content and Stardew is great if you want something comfy. Only downside to both is once you've played both for so long, they pretty much lose their appeal. The good thing about Starbound is that you can play with other people/friends, Stardew is more like an updated Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing.

Stick of Truth is alright; not really much of a challenge and I don't feel you get your money's worth. Darkest Dungeon is fun and challenging (it's pretty damn hard and keep in mind the RNG harshness is part of the game).

all games are good, all of them offer different gameplay that depends on what you're looking for.

If you've never played Harvest Moon, emulate SNES/64/Back to Nature and if you like that, get Stardew next sale. If you've never played Terraria, get that instead before getting Starbound. Don't be too swayed by the hype behind Darkest Dungeon. It has DLC that makes it much more than 9.99 and you'd know if you would like it a lot before picking it up. Stick of Truth is a simple RPG with good humor.
>>
>>382862753
Personally, although I enjoyed TiTS's fighting system, I found it a bit repetitve and slow. Maybe it's because I'd just played SMT4, but by the end I was tired of some of the attacks' animations.

Based on those three games it seems like you have plenty of games already, so unless you just want to buy Sanic to spend the money instead of wanting the game, I'd say go for it. Adventure 2 is the best one, one of my most played games during my childhood. I'm just not sure if it's aged well.

it's a lot of fun, it's pretty challenging and has a shit ton of exploration. Plus an amazing soundtrack and creepy/surreal ambiance. It's very enjoyable, the first of the modern fully cinematic FF games. The combat is fast paced, the visuals and music are great, it has plenty of memorable moments, and it's overall very fun, especially if you don't have a lot of experience with JRPGs. X-2 is an entirely different beast, and I haven't played much to give you an opinion.

Decent port. If you've never played Some of the models are changed a bit and people complain about them, but if you've never played FFX before you won't notice anything. They're not absolutely horrible or anything like that (if you see some horrible ones people post on here, those would be in-dev beta models that were never used in the final game). It also comes with the option to use remastered music (I suggest going to the options to change it back to classic music though, as only a few of the remastered ones are actually improvements) as well as some cheats in the options. It's odd that they included cheats there, but some people would call them quality of life options, such as being able to speed up grinding against generic enemies. Try to stay away from the cheats first playthrough.

All that being said, there's nothing else of note / nothing wrong, so go enjoy the game.

Yeah, the boss battles were really great. But losing was made even worse because of the slowness. It isn't game breaking, but it's a big issue I found with the game, other than linearity and pacing.
>>
>>382863526
I definitely agree, I always forget just how slow the fights are but I'm probably part of the minority that really enjoys seeing the battle animations since one of my favorite games is Skies of Arcadia, which was pretty much attack animations every couple of steps due to random encounters.
SMT4 was pretty fast paced from what I remember though, especially given that you could speed up battles by pressing a button, IIRC.

Reminds me of when I played Final Fantasy Tactics after a SMT game, it was so slow it was almost unplayable for me.

SMT4 is fast because of it being first person. Attacks barely have an animation and are just an effect mostly. SJ is even faster.

I don't mind long animations when it's just for big attacks, but when you have to use some of them more than once on even small battles, it really gets old fast.

Ground Zeroes. It's a very fun small game, but people hate it because of it being sold on its own while being quite short. At 4 dollars it's a steal. Advanced ones might be confusing to a first timer, but to a returning played they'd do things like allow Yuna to get black magic early. Just go for regular sphere grids and play characters as they were intended.

As a contrasting opinion, I think its overrated as fuck and more style over substance. It's a slow game that lacks some basic QoL things. It has a really cool world, though. My recommendation for that genre would be Environmental Station Alpha or Momodora

Coming from someone who isnt into platformers, but enjoy otherwise very difficult games.

I get why people might like it, its very smooth and quite easy on the eyes.

But I fucking hate having to run across the same rooms over and over searching around for the next place to go. Too frustrating for me. That's my 2 cents

Well, for starts a lot of the movement options in a game that takes a long time to get around are gotten too late in the game. Let's be honest here as well-- there's no good reason to put the compass as a badge when you are going to want that slot for something else and all it does it make the map easier to read. There aren't enough quick travel points. It's a very slow game. Even combat can be very slow with lots of enemies that guard and require waiting.

>>
>>382865890
Most Metroidvanias I've played take too long to move around really, I think that the fact that there's even fast travel is a miracle.

The compass badge is only a necessity when you don't know where you are going. You can easily replace it for a boss at a bench. I think it should have been an upgrade though, so I kinda agree.

I definitely agree with you, but I don't see those as really bad aspects of the game. They are just design choices, and the game being too fast would go against the artistic choice, or at least that's how I feel.

>>
>>382866197
Design choices can be negatives, Anon. It's a game that is mind-numbing to me. ESA for example, has plenty of backtracking and walking around... but one of the first things you get is a grapple that is based on momentum and is fun as fuck to move around with. It should be enjoyable/engaging to move around in a game. Hollow Knight misses that mark for me pretty badly and I just think there are much better alternatives out on the market. Momodora is very similar in a lot of design choices but it manages to not be nearly as slow-paced.

I only played 2, you can go full hitman tier stealth in most of it. (minus the whole using environmental weapons)

Its very accessible and forgiving at low difficulties, and ramps up the difficulty fairly well.

On low you can indeed charge like a retard and essentially speedrun it. There are a few sections in the game that essentially force a stealth approach, or a sniper role to advance the objective, notable ones include shooting at specific points on tanks or high value targets.

Higher difficulties you will get wrecked if you just charge around.

A buddy of mine played all 4 and are basically his favorite games.

They are all very similar and maybe you are better off just buying one of them and then getting the rest in a later sale, or refunding if you don't like the playstyle.

Diff anon here, bullet cam/xrays are in SE2.
Don't know what felt funny means either but on easy mode there is hardly any bullet drop with the rifles.

The secondary sub machine gun feels rather weak and ineffective, its really only there to panic hip fire if someone gets to close to you. Anyone used to a game were sub-machine guns serve a primary combat role might think it feels like shit.

The welrod pistol is silent and is good for close up stealth kills.

You can, and are supposed to be able to basically go through the entire game without touching the SMG.

Steam Fallout 3 is pretty fucky. Not worth it without the GOTY version anyways. Oblivion is great of you know what you're getting into, might hate it, but there are mods for pretty much anything that most people dislike about it. Devil Daggers is solid for the price, not a ton of content but it's fun if you like trying to beat your times. Dragonfall is a great game, best of the 3 like it.

Yes. SuperGiant has literally never ever made a game that wasn't great. The gameplay is very different but it's very good, and it's $3.

You have games there that are worth less than a dollar. You've barely bought any games. Do you even Steam?

Try the beta and then eventually maybe start thinking about it, the threads I have seen about that game don't put a lot of faith in it.

>>382868348
>Dark Souls 2
I got it gifted and I think that Dark Souls 1 was much better.
>Doom BFG edition
a WASTE of money and time, this version has nothing worthy, is not mod compatible (unless that changed) and changes next to nothing, your best bet is to get the original version and mod that.

Looking to trade Dark Souls II SOTFS for Child of Light or Sleeping Dogs Definitive

Same for Final Fantasy XIV.

If any of these games interest you, let me know and I'm sure we can make a deal.

Black Flag is really fun. It's the best way to play the Ubisoft formula.
>>
>>382868716
Fallout 3 is decent if played through the Tale of Two Wastelands mod, and not just because it combines the games, but because you're playing 3 inside New Vegas's improvements and updated engine (iron sights, ammo crafting, speech and other checks based on lvl, etc)
>>
>>382868238
It's one of the best action RPGs from the two decades easily. Has a slow start and can take a little getting used to but it is an absolutely amazing game and is praised for good reason. For $12 it's a steal if you like the genre. Don't come here asking for advice or "just bought this game what should I expect". Just play it, and if you enjoy it then do go without a guide until you get to NG+

>>382868608
Couldn't be more wrong. Not every action game is Dark Souls, and Souls games are barely action to begin with.

>>382868603
Divine Divinity is great, you have to be able to stomach older games though but it's really not THAT dated feeling. A real treat for only 59 cents, probably the best deal on steam right now.

>>382868716

I know it's weird but Dark Souls II runs 10x better on my craptop. I agree Dark Souls Prepare to Die is way more difficult though.
As for Doom 3 BFG, you get Doom 3 + Ressurection of Evil + original WADs except for Final Doom, right?

Scholar of the First Sin is very well optimized. Something they somehow fucked up with Dark Souls 3, and Dark Souls 1 is a terrible port pretty much. DSfix makes it better but doesn't fix it completely.

They're all pretty good, even Returns isn't bad, just the weakest of them.

Super house of dead ninjas is fun as fuck.
Really fast paced, good learning curve, fuck-ton of unlockables. Heard good things about BDO and Pacman championship edition 2 is pretty good.
Might wanna check out the painkiller games, postal 2, hexen 2 if you want fast paced stuff.
Crimzon Clover: world ignition is also a pretty great shmup

Also you fags should check out Wuppo, it's a hidden gem. Plays a bit like cave story, has some good humor, a great sound track and lots of neat little details you don't find in games these days.

Door Kickers if you're a big fan of tactical planning and OG!RB6-likes.
Max Payne if you appreciate gunplay.
SWBFII is nostalgia to be quiet honest extended family.
KOTOR is for the Star Wars fan that didn't mind the Prequels and actually look deeper into the lore and significance of it. Well, at least KOTOR II does that.
Haven't gotten around to playing Zeno Clash.
RAGE is ok.
As for the others, I'm not as familiar with so I can't help you there.
