Because most historical figures are judged by the times, Macedonia in his time was very advanced and them conquering shittier areas didn't set the world back in advancement. Genghis attacked places of greater development and slowed advancement by either destroying places or forcing them to go all out in pushing them back at great expense. You could argue that them spreading the black death actually caused Europe to leave the dark ages though not by any means their intention.

You get to pick either British, US, Russia, or Germany factions and then after the character creation, the campaign starts you in a Risk Style Map similar to Grand Strategy.

You can also play as Italy, France and Japan for the Expansion pack.
