What made this show go to absolute shit?
>Clogs up most of the episodes with Greyjoy torture porn

>We're in the seventh gen of video games and backpaddles like the xbox elite and steam controller still aren't anen't an industry standard
>1/3 of the fucking buttons on an average controller cannot be pressed without sacrificing control of one of the sticks
The "modern" controller is honestly archaic as shit. But because Jim Sterling types sperg out at anything that looks like change no better solutions will ever catch on.

so better solutions*

I'm less mad about that than about the lack of dual-stage triggers. Everything after ghe Gamecube should have had them.

Play a game that involves jumping and camera movement with jump bound to a backpaddle and then tell me you don't think they're a big deal. It's fucking lifechanging.

Bethesda is going to ruin id software. Doom was only an exception and even it isn't as good as the classics.

>Jim Sterling types sperg out at anything that looks like change
I thought he was all for innovation. I don't have that controller but the concept seems solid, what's his issue with it.Ideally, I'd like backpaddles and DS4 style touch screens(maybe not as big though) to be the standard. Pressure sensitive buttons too, it's bullshit that the DS4 doesn't have em
>>382859664
Id ruined themselves, where were you for RAGE and Call of DOOM? Nu-DOOM was the best thing they've done in years and it was Pete Hine's idea to trash Call of DOOM for it
>>382859664
well, no shit. Bethesda is run by fuck ups who can't make a game with less than 1000 bugs. id software was made by a dude who literally redifined game programming and loves the art of making efficient and polished gaming. But now that he's gone, there's nothing stopping the shit show.

Rage's technique wasn't inherently flawed. The problem is it came too soon. It's methods work great for this new paradigm of high memory low cpu, but we weren't there yet when they released Rage. It was a shit timing, not a shit idea. So, no I don't agree that they did it to themselves. The problem is that too much money goes into corporatized homogenization of ideas and gaming. Tech never really improves in any way but more realistic. With id's death that pretty much rids us of innovators or people who attempt to innovate in gaming tech efficiency.
Games are only going to run worse and get buggier from here. It was bad enough when we lost most of the main good programmers of the 90s. I pretty much expect more complaints from modern devs saying "it just won't work with 6 GB of GDDR5, we need MOAR POWER". It's pathetic. We have some of the whineist programmers this day n age. Nobody adapts to their environment or innovates.
That's why tech is so goddamn expensive for everyone. We are constantly just trying to "hit higher" with no regard for optimization or efficiency. Or at least it's put off to patching... but if you know anything about programming it's better to have optimization plans in the beginning, not come back and try to fix shit AFTER you have a broken engine/game. It becomes a near impossible task to fix the inefficiencies at that point.
Quake isn't/hasn't been that promising of a franchise.
Something like a new tribes game (buying the rights from HiRez or something) and launching that would be a better option.
Quake/small arena shooters are boring and hard to watch, tribes (when played well) is far more exciting for the average viewer.

forgot to mention Unreal 2004, that game was the basis for several other mods that were battlefield-esque yet took things in different directions.
if they made a Quake:2017/18/etc, and built an engine that could compete with shit like frostbite, BUT remain moddable and not terrible to use at the same time they'd have a winner.
>>382856430
Wasn't it designed with 120fps in mind or something?
>>382862275
the official server speed has a tickrate of 60, so it doesn't seem so, no.
>Tales of Symphonia Chronicles still locked at 30 fps
