If you were actually to think about it, fighting games are just functions. They're just doing things. Marvel vs Capcom, case and point, is a favorite because it has combos and teams. Well guess what, Skullgirls can do the same thing, Tekken Tag Tournament can do the same thing. It's just the function that people are associating with the game, and there's no shortage of that. I'm making sure that all proper gameplay features can be replaced by different games. Why not play a game different from Marvel vs Capcom Infinite?
