You can't assume that what she starts with is the canon equipment she received in the previous game.

In Prime you start with none of the items you're required to have at the end of Zero Mission, and if you're going by the first game she has a ton of items that did not exist at that point. Not to mention the grapple beam is in neither version of the game despite being in Primes tutorial, nor does she have the ice beam that you need to finish both versions of the game.

And within the Prime series alone you're required to get most items but they rarely carry over to the next installment. It's just a gameplay abstraction that exists for the sake of making a decent videogame, and something that doesn't need a canon explanation. We don't need a reason for why Mega Man can't use every previous boss attack in each new installment of the classic series, or why Zelda dungeons happen to always have an item in them that acts as a solution to every puzzle within it, so this should not be a concern in Metroid.

What are you hoping for the next armor gimmick in Prime 4 (or if they even add anything new to Samus Returns not that they have a reason to)?

The PED suit is pretty boring actually especially since it's initiated from the start of the game and it's basically just a Jury Rigged version of the already Jury Rigged Phazon Suit

I've literally never seen anyone shit on the fusion suit, which is really surprising because the fan base is very polarized about that game. There's been so many prequels with the original armor that I think even people who hate the fusion suit want to see it in metroid 5 just as a symbol that we finally have a game after fusion

It's not like it'd be that interesting. Samus will have to face some punishment for destroying an entire fucking planet, but since she was trying to save the galaxy from X and Adam can testify against (yet another) rogue Fed faction trying to weaponize metroids and X, she should be fine.
Her DNA is back to "normal" too, so no metroid Samus shenanigans like some people imagined.

And let's not pretend Sakamoto had an idea to do a follow-up.

Basically the only thing a Fusion sequel would bring is no more SR-388 and an Adam AI companion - fat luck now that everybody hate Adam.

So yeah nobody's in any hurry to make a M5 taking place after Fusion

Is it? I don't see people hyping it up too much. The problem is, until Other M, pretty much every single game was good to great, which makes talking about "one of the best" a bit of confusing issue. Unless you really dislike the 2D or Prime style, there wasn't a single game that you shouldn't have played. Hunters and Pinball are whatever.

I think it's mostly that ZM came out post the introduction of the Prime series and in the middle of about 4 metroid games in 2 years. While MSM is coming out post Other M and Federation Force after having very few games for ten. People were more generous with the former.

You forgot that it was insultingly hand-holdy and was not challening in the slightest. The shitty ZS section also had awful map design. Honestly a real disappointment, although it's still decent at least. I'm surprised when people say these trends won't continue in the Remake, it will most likely be even easier especially with all the melee counter and Aeon bullshit.

I disagree, especially next to Fusion. All Chozo statues after the first are completely skippable and the map design lets you go pretty much wherever you want if you're good enough (except for the fucking retarded slime globe that keeps you from entering Norfair without the power grip)

Metroid games are rarely challenging, especially the good (Super, Prime) ones. It's supposed to be possible for anyone to play and complete, while experts play challenge runs. For the record, I love 9% ZM.
