It's open nature is both its greatest strength and its biggest weakness. On one hand it's a solid extension of Great Cave Offensive that uses the abilites to their full extent with a nice light metroidvania feel to it, on the other because the different worlds are so seamlessly connected to each other they're not really memorable, and since the level design is centered around riddles to get the treasures, there's barely any real platforming sequences. Also Robobots are much more broken than Hypernova, because with Hypernova you only ever got it when a gimmick needed to be passed through and then it went away. You never used it against regular enemies during regular portions of the level. With Robobots you get one and keep it for the entire level so you can plow through everything like it's fucking nothing.

I think part of Super Star's appeal was the ability to have short bursts of gameplay because each subgame was like 20 minutes to beat and each did something slightly different.
Having a main story sort of prevents that. Though I do like seeing the helpers return.

I liked Triple Deluxe. The only thing that bugged me about it was how scripted the super ability always was. It really sucks the fun out of the ability when the game not only just hands it to you at the same points every time but it also forces you to use it and there was no way to fuck up when you had it. It also slowed everything to a crawl to use it.

In the case of Castlevania, the 64 games and LoS are pretty debatable. Judgement exists. I'd argue Harmony of Dissonance is one of the worst, generic anime tier plot, castle that's too small to explore, the second castle barely changes anything outside of aesthetic, inconsistent music quality (though I would argue in a different game, people would call the soundtrack THE shit, for potentially being creepy and atmospheric like Lament of Innocence), really easy overall, unimaginative, but it's fun asf to speedrun.

I don't think the new kirby games are bad by any means but I don't like how slow the new games feel. Never finished triple deluxe and I don't feel like playing the robot game. They are definitely very good games but I'm not a big fan of them anymore.
