FFVII is by far the most soothing game I could choose to play. The emotional presence, music and setpieces always keep me coming back.

Pic related is my day-to day comfort. When I was a teenager, my dad knocked one of my teeth out. Sucker punched me! It was horrible. Immediately after, in a daze, all I could focus on was Donkey Kong Country 2. My sisters sat with me, kept giving me gauze and ice. I'm still missing the tooth, about a decade later. DKC2 doesn't remind me of this at all, it just puts me at ease, drives off the anathema.

people like this is retarded. They find something, and then they try to insert their bullshit into it.
Yes, that thing walking is a protein, a Kinesin or a dynein, proteins that uses ATP to "walk" (it just changes it's shape to move). That protein is walking on the cytoskeleton, the microfilaments that are inside of the cell and give it shape, and also function as a way of comunication. The thing the Kinesin is carring is not "happines", they transport anything that is so big it can't move by itself on the cell, including vesicles (bags of fatty acids with different meterials inside, like proteins, fats, glucoproteins, hormones, etc).

>>382800076
Not necesirally, as far as I know, antidepressants give you energy.
Now, if you are depressed enough to be taking antidepressants, big odds are you have suicidal thoughts, yet in order for a suicide to be carried out it needs to be actually done, at their lowest point person with depression will not kill themselves in the worst of states.

Actually, when suicide occurs, many say that before they spoke to the one whom killed themselves looked happier than usually, that is because they made their choice and are happy and energetic enough to carry it out.

Since antidepressants give the energy it can increase suicide risk
>>
>>382799010

Oblivion makes me happy.
I don't know if it's the goofy faces, the cheesy voice acting or the silly dialogs but I find myself smiling and happy when playing it. It doesn't take itself too seriously and I like it. Thinking of it, I can't remember many times when I was amused in morrowind and skyrim, while I remember plenty of stuff in oblivion
It's the first TES I played and despite its flaws it's the one I prefer. Nostalgia might have an effect here, still I replayed it like 2 month ago

First was Sertraline. Then I complained about the side effects making me sick and unable to leave the bed all the time.

Then I was prescribed a dual-dosage of Fluoxetine and Bupropion after a sort of finger-prick blood test that helps determine which AD was best for me. The side effects were less intense, and I decided to give it more time in hopes of settling in and maybe one day, it'll make me feel a little happier.

Then, I quit all of that shit with a gentle ease of lower dosages until empty. I was tired of dealing with the side effects and not feeling any happier.

I'm still a woefully depressed piece of shit today, but I feel like I have a little more control over it.

I recommend you to continue pharmacological therapy and start seeing a psychologist that will help you get your life back on track.

Honestly? Experiencing new video games and what they have to offer. I just got done playing Darkest Dungeon and had a party wipe to the Brigand 16 Pounder due to some RNG fuckery and I'm pretty god damn salty, but deep inside I'm fucking ecstatic that I can still experience a great moment I'll never forget in my life.

>t. biologist

lets take this from the top buddy

>Yes, that thing walking is a protein, a Kinesin or a dynein,
it is very obviously an artist's rendition of a kinesin. dynein and kinesin are very different looking proteins

>proteins that uses ATP to "walk" (it just changes it's shape to move). That protein is walking on the cytoskeleton, the microfilaments that are inside of the cell and give it shape
kinesins walk on microtubules, not microfilaments. microfilaments are made out of filamentous actin, microtubules are made out of a-tubulin and b-tubulin protein dimers.

>The thing the Kinesin is carring is not "happines", they transport anything that is so big it can't move by itself on the cell, including vesicles (bags of fatty acids with different meterials inside, like proteins, fats, glucoproteins, hormones, etc).
t. biologist.

>glucoproteins
call them glycoproteins - proteins with glycans.

At the end of the day, it's what you feel that really matters. The problem is having many people feel that you didn't accomplish anything can make you feel sad.

Is the guy with a PSN account filled with platinum trophies truly successful at what he does? Does he make pointless work for himself, which invalidates any fun he had while playing the game normally?

Marcus Aurelius idea about success has fueled me well so far. I'd like to share it with you
XLVI. The ambitous supposeth another man's act, praise and applause, to be his own happiness; the voluptuous his own sense and feeling; but he that is wise, his own action.
I come closer to the idea that perhaps it's not the achievements themselves but the unlocking of them and completing something 100% i.e achieving 56/56 achievements. This might be strange form of OCD that I am not aware of as of yet.
I need to sort myself out

Yeah, here's my two cents as someone who's suffered from mental illness for nearly a decade, diagnosed schizoaffective. Medications definitely help if you're on the right regimen, but they're not magical drugs that will cure everything, it takes a lot of personal effort to make them work, therapy, CBT, having a proper support group, and leading a good lifestyle. If you're just taking pills they probably won't do much alone, you have to live workign with it.

Glad to see that I'm actually not the only one who recognized that molecule as kinesin and not myosin. Just to make things completely correct: while Myosin is mechanically not entirely different from kinesin (it's a similar "walker", ATP-powered transport protein and serves similar function), this animation in particular has been created specifically to illustrate how kinesin uses cellular microtubules to move around.
Also, endorphin is much smaller than either kinesin or myosin molecules.
Also also, endorphin is not responsible for "happiness", but rather for pain suppression and euphoria or even mania or excitement. "Happiness" is primarily associated with serotonin and dopamine.

As for OP's question:
Factorio. Unhealthy so: the game is rather dangerously addictive to me. I actually had to force myself to ration it, force myself away from it on regular basis, otherwise I would suddenly find out half a day has fucking passed and I've done nothing but optimizing my ore processing.

Most doctors don't go prescribing Wellbutrin because Wellbutrin is actually dopaminergic (it's ad dopamine and norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor. In this way, it actually isn't that far off from cocaine (and is also used to actually treat cocaine cravings). Doctors are usually much more careful with prescribing it, because messing with dopamine levels is no joke. It's usually only prescribed for major depression, or if other types of medication fail. Also, the effects and side-effects vary strongly from person to person.

This will seem like a weird question, but where can I find games that require almost no input from the user/minimal input from the user?

For example something like war3 custom maps' Legion TD where you just build units/towers and have them fight, or that one japanese game that made your name into a weapon and had all the name-weapons fight to the death.

This is what I think every time someone says this shit to me.

Reducing something to its basal components doesn't change shit. Sure it makes you more aware, more skeptical, maybe more cynical, but it doesn't change the fact that, barring suicide, we are under the sway of those chemicals. Knowing that one's emotions derive from chemicals doesn't mean that love isn't love, sadness isn't sadness, hate isn't hate, happiness isn't happiness.

It's just so juvenile that people who make a big deal of this think that they've somehow found the answer to their questions. I think that people who try to repress all their emotions on these grounds are the kind of people who can't control their emotions, or their emotions (in their opinion) have led them to pain in the past. It's just replacing one extreme with another.

Flies are less intelligent. Having our level of intelligence without being conscious would be better from an evolutionary standpoint. Imagine something like a dog. They have higher intelligence, but they still act purely on instinct, unlike us.>>382841336
>>
>>382840847
first, understanding something does not kill your sense of wonder, as it is still incredible an interesting, I mean, a fucking thing so small that carries something around your body to make you happy? and that thing is not even intelligent itself? that's amazing.

Second, there are still TONS of things we have not yet discovered/understood/created. Just look at space for an example.

Finally, the more you understand, the more you can keep researching and discovering, just because we know how that specific thing works doesn't mean we now everything about it or that we can do anything with that topic. Come back when there is a pill that will intermediately make you happy with 0 repercussions

Happieness, drive, and fufillment are not mutually exclusive to pain. They're the ability to overcome, use, and thrive under duress. At my happiest and best, I'm able to thrive under p ain and discomfort to create positive change. The pain isnt non- existant, it's just a non-factor.

Depression hinders the ability to overcomeand adapt,it makes mountains out of molehills.

Instinct exists inside of a consciousness experience, so I'm not sure where you're going with that. If you're question is why everything isn't preformed automatically- that's just because it would be incredibly inefficient if not impossible to coordinate a body to deal with everything it encounters in its environment without a central nervous system.

Well, I think the body is just insanely complex, and knowing that my consciousness is the proverbial crown on top makes me feel like I'm important. We are, by such an unknowably long stretch of space and time, the only living things, and of all the living things we coexist with, we are so far beyond everything else in terms of cognitive functions. Even the smartest of mammals don't come close.

Some people look out to the stretches of space and feel isolated, but seeing that makes me think we are a lot more important, like we exist in some astronomical cradle. We are literally the only things here that are aware of what's out there. Isn't that insane? An abstraction of the billions of lightyears beyond exists in arguably MOST of our heads, somewhere.

You will never feel happiness the same way you did as a teenager. When you were in puberty, fucking EVERYTHING was intense. Think of it as a spectrum. You felt extreme happiness and extreme sadness to the lengths and intensities that an adult no longer can. As you grow older, the spectrum shortens until you're happy just not being in pain, the threshholds of both are easier to get to but less responsive.

Maybe it's just me, but i'm happier in my mid-twenties than as a teen by far.

My teenage years were awkward, incredibly painful, and full of disappointment. Now that i'm in my mid-twenties, my life is actually objectively worse in that I have few friends, little free time, an unending barrage of financial concerns, and i'm in poorer health; but for some reason I feel mostly content in spite of those things.

If anything, I feel as though i've already faced the worst life has to offer and I can only go up from here.

Halo custom games (excrpt 4)

Ever since i started playing custom games i always had fun, people inviting me to play random stuff like Jenga tower, ghostbusters, duck hunt, skycastle, fat kid variants, etc.

It makes me happy, to enjoy the moment, it takes aways the feeling of loneliness that i have, i barely go out with friends because thwy rather stay talking about anime or things im not interested in, and i don't have someone to share my feelings with either.

This is probably cringy for most of you guys but these small moments of joy playing all kinds of stuff in halo saved my life.

I think that part stems from the fact that people are often disappointed in love and want to blame that on the fact that the chemical reaction responsible for that feeling doesn't last forever. So basically they blame the fact that it's not working out for them because of the chemistry and not because they just don't understand what love it. They're just missing the point of love and a relationship altogether, they dream of a love that's everlasting when no love is. Love just evolves through the years, and despite its many forms it remains one of the most beautiful things about humans.

ah life, the more I understand it, the more I see it for the abomination it is

life is the corruption of physical matter, death is where life belongs

I now this is 4chan but I sincerely truly believe this, life is the definition of evil, no one ever will convince me otherwise
>>
>>382862239
Please elaborate. What makes it evil?

something always has to give, for one thing to exist, it needs to take from another, you can't live without feeding on something that needs to die for you

it's more complicated than that I know, but it doesn't really changes anything

(I know you're probably just being silly, but allow me to add these $0.02 anyway)

Ignoring the fact that the image is kinesin, not myosin... that image is basically in slow-motion. Kinesin moves it's "legs" about 100 times per second. A lot of animations you see involving biological mechanisms are actually happening much faster than they are presented.

I am being deathly serious for a second, anon. Look up the book Parasite Rex. I feel like you will really appreciate it if you enjoy non-fiction at all. It looks at the parasitic world and really brings to light how prolific and even necessary they are. It's also crazy that the only reason we don't just rot away is because our immune systems are so crazy.

>At least four parasites exist for every non
>>
>>382796358
fuck off, OP, back to finishing Scorn, you lazy bastard
>>
>>382862545
That just means it's cyclical. Your death means microorganisms will consume your body and feed themselves. Tons of creatures feed on dead human skin every day. Your trash is food for other animals as well.
As much as you waste your existance, you're feeding millions of little things while still alive. Not to mention if you consider each cell as a living thing as well.
It's all a big fucking cycle of feeding and death.
That doesn't make it evil, just savage.

>>382842292
I don't think that last part is right. I took my feeling of depression and used it as a tool to shape my emotional well-being into something sustainable in the long-term and things don't seem to peel away at me like they do for the people around me. There's this comforting gloom about life that makes you realize how lucky it is to be. I can't say I'm happy, but I try and face the facts knowing that I exist and nothing can take that away.

Why is it that some songs that are -new- ie I've never heard them before, also evoke a sense of nostalgia?

Example: Home sweet home (FFXV) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXfHooTIReM
>>
>>382862545
While we can't live without taking from other life, not all life must do so. Plenty of organisms get energy from thermal, solar, or chemical energies. If you are to argue they also "take" to live, then do stars as well?

>>
>>382863249
This is what gets me about life. I've never been very attached to "earthly pleasures" much, the only thing that kept me going was the belief that there was some higher purpose. But really, it all boils down to savagery, as you call it. Even things we think of as absolutely good and selfless are ultimately just pieces of this terrible machine. It makes me sick, constantly. The only reason I didn't immediately off myself was the fear that my death would inadvertently set off some chain of events. I mean, it inevitably will, it's just the magnitude of that effect that's in question. I suppose to a lot of people who fear simply fading from existence, that would be a comfort, but honestly if there were some way to simply remove myself from existence altogether that's what I'd do.

Games from my childhood. SNES-PS2 era stuff.
Open world games, mostly Bethesda stuff and recently BOTW. I just love walking around sometimes. Get a new idea for a character, or just running around gathering crap. Was having fun with a low-tech high chem use character until this point.
Also old MMOs, I drift between Project1999 as a bard/druid just singing songs of my people or porting for plat that I never use and fucking SWGEmu, a busty as fuck bikini clad blue twi'lek commando burning krayt dragons and rancors to death makes me feel warm. also a Smuggler/Pistoleer with xx4x Fencer and 1x4x medic. kicking and shooting people in the dick meanwhile having high health damage/bleeds all the while having cheating tier Dodge abilities

Oh and ruining someones day in Mario Kart, a well placed Ba-bom in a choke point like on Yoshi's track, or getting someone good with a boomerang on SNES Rainbow road.

And Splatoon for various reasons

Acshually magic is in knowing a lot, what you are describing is getting a checklist version of a thing, basically seeing one webm on the internet and thinking that now you know how everything works. You are not le following your own dreams. Depression is nature fail-safe mechanism to ensure that humans will do anything that they want, however insignificant it may seem. Yeah it doesn't give you a solid answer but it basically says "yo whatever you are doing isn't working, try literally anything else again and again until something will make you feel alive.

Oh also if you don't have dreams that's fine, following your curiosity will often suffice as a start.

Honestly I can't think of any games that have ever made me happy. I've enjoyed most that I've played, sure, sometimes I even love them but I'm rarely happy when playing vidya. Hell, in real life I'm rarely happy. I don't exactly feel empty inside, just sort of mostly neutral. I've struggled with clinical depression since I was a young teen due to being molested and raped by my cousin on a weekly basis since before I can remember until I was 12 and while I've managed to work out most of my issues, and I'm no longer suicidal, I don't particularly feel that much anymore. I used to feel so overwhelmed in fear, anxiety, self loathing, guilt, shame, etc mixed with an utter emptiness. Now I'm just 90% neutral to everything. My fiance is the only person who's ever really given me happy memories or experiences, but I don't think I really get happiness from things or objects.

That said, Civ V is pretty damn comfy and I enjoy that the most of any game I've ever played.

This is something with DNA copying, it has nothing to do with endorphins.
Anyway endorphins get temporarily attached to a receptor which in turn releases dopamine. It never drags something along.

Religion is the only thing that's helped me besides therapy. My faith and my fiance, really. I know the cool thing on the internet is still non-euphoric atheism but in all honesty religion helps me deal with everything in a constructive manner. Only downside is no premarital sex, but to be fair with the level of physical trauma I went through I'm not sure I can even perform anyway. I wasn't circumcised until 12, when my cousin snipped me with a kitchen knife and took off most of my glans too. It was so painful I had seizures and I've never been able to experience any sexual pleasure despite intense sexual desires. It's an itch that's physically impossible to be scratched. Thankfully my fiance is the most supportive, kind person on the planet and while I'm not particularly happy the vast majority of the time, I am content with where I am now and how far I've come. People here seriously don't put enough value in contentedness. It's a far more sustaining emotional state than happiness, which is really just fleeting.

>>382863249
I'm not talking about micro organisms rather:
why do people steal or rape? it's to gain something they don't have, at the expense of another. Any animal that hunts will end another's entire life, only so that it may live a little bit longer, a entires existence versus a few days. It's the concept of me before you.

dung beetles feed on camel shit, gross sure but definitely more okay in my book I suppose

>>382863746
I may be wrong, but stars don't try to spread, reproduce, consume the world around them.

*

I know my points are pretty shitty, it's really more of an emotion than a rational thing, if you ask someone why they are alive, they just naturally feel that they want to live and may not provide detailed specific reasons. It's just that from what I see of the world and how I experience it, it's feel wrong, it's fucked up

In my experience the people that always say that about love are the ones who can't get any love. I want to know why the fuck your heart physically hurts when you are in pain. I can completely understand why pre-modern people thought the heart was the center of your thinking/emotions. Then again they can see if you get hit in head you become stupid, and it hurts your head when you are trying to think or do problem solving that is complicated.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-causes-chest-pains/

Neat to learn about the mouse thing. A mouse seeing a cage mate in agony is more sensitive to physical pain itself, a mouse seeing a friendly unharmed mouse is less sensitive to pain. It seems to favor the idea that misery really does breed misery.
