Not actually difficult. It's just recognizing a pattern and waiting for the right opportunity to attack. It's only perceived as difficult because you can only take one hit so it automatically adds that tension you feel when you're out of rings and scrambling to get at least one of them.

You can't jump and hit him while he's walking cause the hands will hit you

Jumping him from behind is risky because of the fire

When he fires the hands at you, they move super fast, your recoil if you attack him here risks knocking you into them

He's legit difficult

Play whenever the fuck you want: every handheld title. Consider skipping the master system/game gear ones. But definitely try the advance and rush series.

The main problem was that practicing and learning the pattern of the boss was tricky because each death made you first fight Metal Sonic again.

It's easy as fuck if you just stay away for certain parts and try using a bit of patience. Problem is that people want to cheese through the boss in 40 seconds, because the entirety of the rest of the game teaches you that "speed = good"

Classic games being 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles, and CD. Maybe don't start with 1 though because it's the weakest. People will bs you and say it has more focus on platforming when it really doesn't. It's all just waiting on moving platforms which the other games have in addition to actually being fun.
