Dracula's Curse backstory was a war. Dracula went after humanity after the death of Lisa, and as a result of this, the Pope at that period in history sent Sypha to personally kill Dracula, and only went to Trevor after her mission failed. There was a bit more to the plot than "Dracula is here!" in that it emphasized Dracula as a threat to humanity. Most games have him alive to gear up to some bad shit: he's already doing it when Dracula's Curse takes place, and is I believe the only game in the franchise where he's actively attacking humanity before the game actually starts.

I presume Ellis wanted to pick a Castlevania storyline that was the "start" of the battle against Dracula, but Dracula's Curse seems like a weird place to start with two seasons and four episodes each. It seems too short of a run time to really emphasize a "war" and if people like Grant are omitted, I doubt they're gonna give a whole episode to Dracula's motives as a "flashback" episode.

Perhaps D is more overtly OP in the light novels, but going only by the movies (and let's be honest guys, he is relevant because of the movies, is what people know him from), I just don't see it. He is obviously a powerful combatant, but most of his fights seem to be won because everybody assumes he must suck by virtue of not being a full vampire, and don't expect him to be on that league.
