Evil Forest and escaping it, leaving Ice Cavern and seeing Dali, crossing the South Gate and arriving in Lindblum, that GOAT Burmecia ending.

Well, 9 is basically the classic NES+SNES formula distilled into one game full of references for nostalgiafags so I get why he says that, I kind of agree with him in that sense, besides everyone know how much he pushed and invested in that game back in the days.
Then again, it's hard to give an opinion when you don't think too highly of a franchise, I'd personally say that 5 is the best for that kind of franchise, even though my personal favorite is 2, but it all really depends on what kind of game you like at the end of the day, FF never had cohesive direction like other franchise of the time so it's hard to say which game is the best when they are either rethreads of previous games or something completely different.

I didn't enjoy 7 when I played it but I did play the PC version with cloud saving which ruined it for me, for some reason it would only use cloud saves rather than local saves and took literally half an hour to connect to the server every time I tried to load or save the game, that isn't an exageration, I often opened the save menu, went to make a coffee and then finished drinking the coffee before I could save the game, as a result I ended up rushing through the game
But even without all that I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed 9 which I admit is entirely because it was the first one I played. If I was forced to choose a best Final Fantasy and ignore my nostalgia then it would have to be 6

FF9 was a throwback catering to nostalgiafags. Of course old people would think it's good.

FF7 and 8 had their flaws for sure, especially 8, but at least they pushed the franchise forward. 9 was a step back in every way. The gameplay was regressive, the story was childish, etc. I'm glad 9 had almost no influence on the development of the franchise going forward, otherwise FF might have become Pokemon-tier casual garbage.

The final fantasy series is pretty shit to be honest. The early games are as barebones as you get, the later games have lame gimmicks to spice things up but none of those caught on because they sucked, you can't really call any of the games beyond 7 influential and even then it doesn't deserve to be influential. The more interesting games in the series are Tactics (which is just an inferior Tactics Ogre clone, and the later games were complete shit) and FFXI (which despite being a great and somewhat successful MMO had little influence in the genre and never got a proper spiritual successor because they opted to make a trash WoW clone instead). The title "Final Fantasy" is all the series has left at this point, and even then it's not enough to guarantee success anymore.

I've played all the PS1 FF's countless times back then but for some reason the one that I have most fond memories of is FF8. 7 and 9 are nice too, but the world in 8 feels more comfy, perhaps because it's more close to our world (in aesthetics and urban areas) if compared to 7's and obviously 9's.

I deeply regret buying FFXV lol. Story was in shambles and the combat was pure jank half the time. I liked the world and the main characters though.
