You realize those 900+ collectibles are optional right? You don't have to go around trying to find all the korok seeds. It's like platinum trophies for PS games. You don't need it to finish the game but it's there for those who want the extra challenge.

Video games are capable of telling a good story. Most recent example is NieR. The biggest problem with most game stories however is that they try to be movies instead of using their interactivity to their advantage as a medium. Automata does it well because it shows you story from different perspectives and expands it. Also you have all those 21 joke endings when you for example decide to run away from the battlefield and so on.
