This game is so good
I haven't played a game this intensely since my Dragon Quest binge, it's so hard to put down
>>
I'm browsing /v/ while I'm waiting for the rain in BoTW to stop so I can keep exploring

Fuck climbing
>>
>>382746573
This
There's this shrine on the radar in this rainforesty area, I just said fuck it for now because it kept raining for absurd amounts of time and then when it stopped it would just come back seconds later.
>>
>>382746573
Just use wood and flint to set a campfire and pass time, or use an inn
>>
Damn your lucky, I wish I had a switch.
I dont want to get the game for the Wii U because it is not worth it to me, I would rather get a switch and then BoTW.
I hope you enjoy the game though.

That's the one I'm trying to do. I think it's meant to be a constant thunderstorm so you can actually unlock the shrine.

Honestly can't remember how the fuck I got to this shrine at launch without the zora gear to climb up waterfalls.
>>
>>382746573
Speaking of, is it just my luck or they actually lowered the rate of rain?
>>
how much more damage does the barbarian set add? im currently using the climbing set which makes traveling much better
>>
>>382747470
Might have done, it seems to be a lot less than when I first played at launch. I think the only rain I've encountered so far has been about five hours in.

Get it, but wait until the second pack releases. There's some decent stuff in this pack, but the real meat is coming during the holidays. The best part of this DLC isn't hard mode believe it or not, it's actually the cave of trials. It's like eventide island, but longer and more difficult. Sort of like a combat centric dungeon.

Do you keep your hearts/stamina upgrades in the cave of trials?

I'm playing Master Mode right now and wondering if I can just jump straight into it once I get the master sword.
>>
>>382746573
I know right? It's almost like Nintendo made a game where the weather, the climate and the environment are all intricately connected.

If only the game had specific gear you could collect and an upgrade, as well as learning new abilities which make climbing in the rain a total non-issue, thereby instilling a sense of player empowerment and progression. If only, eh?
>>
>>382749530
Alright calm down Neogaf
>>
>>382747932
It's almost like you HAVE TO FIND SHELTER DURING THE RAIN

People actually complained about this
>>
Anyone else bought the game at launch for Wii U then found a switch and want it there too? Any way I can return it to walmart or use other methods that won't make me lose too much money?
>>
>>382748195
The best thing to do is to cook yourself some attack or defence meals and eat them just before you enter. You'll keep the stat boost. You can make really potent meals which will last a good 30mins giving you a fighting chance.

>>
I got it last week.

So essentially I have just been fucking around in the world. I went to Kekariko village and talked to the old lady but I havent gone to thevillage she told me to go to.

I just freed the elephant robot. Did Link at least fuck that fish before the calamity struck?

>>
>>382746841

>>

>Go to the goron, and then the rito, and lastly the gerudo
I found the Rito first. Climbed the giant tower, bird didnt attack. So I left. I found the Gerudo second but didnt bother going to the bazaar cause I wanted to finish my second stamina wheel through shrines. I only found the zora today by going to a tower.
Should Beedle be in the next Smash brothers? Holy fuck he is fast.
>>
The best part of the DLC so far is the floating platforms, they make paragliding so much more fun+they appear at some random ass times too

Using them as airships is max comfy

So this is my first zelda game ever. 24 and I've never been interested in much zelda shit ever. I got into gaming too late for it I think (early gamecube era).

So in this continuity, Ganandorf isnt his Gerudo version? Why is he a pig in some games?
>>
>>382750502

>>382750502
>Airships
Tried this once and the balloons broke off after about two minutes
>>
>>382751324
Just ignore the other games. Nintendo does what they feel like, this time he became so drunk on power he lost his form, pity, because I would like to see him in gerudo aesthetics

Anyway if I was you I would save the desert area for last
>>
>>382751483
>not having a stock of octoballoons for replacement
The good thing about those platforms is that they are usually pretty high up already, saving much time
>>
>>382746841
You should go back to the rain forest after progressing the Zora quest and getting the Zora armor that lets you climb waterfalls, makes it a breeze
>>
>>382751212

I wouldn't mind if they weren't playable as honestly they would either be boring (urbosa) or broken (revali). I just want more interaction so they get fleshed out more, and then focus on prepping their descendants for the final assault against ganon
>>
>>382747932
Nigga just go under a tree
>>
>>382751324
>Why is he a pig in some games?
Various reasons. In the original Legend of Zelda he was just a pig man with no explanation that I recall. In Link to the Past he was a pig monster due to being trapped in a dark world that transformed you into what you were in your heart or something (i.e. Link transformed into an adorable bunny). In Ocarina of Time he started out as a gerudo and transformed into a pig monster through nonspecific magical means as his final boss form, maybe the triforce corrupted him or some shit.

I'm still not clear on where BotW takes place in the timelines, or even if there's more than one Ganon. The whole timeline is really confusing even in the cases where continuity is clear.

does the auto-save happens a lot less frequent on master mode? I just died and lost at least 5-7 minutes, which has never ever happened before.
>>
>>382751321
This is autism.
>>
>>382751324
To be honest Nintendo don't really care too much about the timeline. Having to constantly adhere to some over-arching storyline would seriously impede their creativity. Nintendo just want to make games - the story comes second.
>>
>>382752123
I know I shouldn't care, but that doesn't stop me from trying to fit things together in my head.
>>
>>382752308
I noticed this too. Why can't nintendo release comprehensive patch notes or something?
>>
>>382751542
>this time he became so drunk on power he lost his form
Where? He's literally just formless primordial evil in this one.

>>382751964
BOTW is its own thing.
>>
>>382752308
Seems to happen at all the same times to me.
When you open treasure chests, when you complete shrines, when you approach certain locations. Usually where an overworld boss is located but I think there's other spots that trigger it too.
>>
>>382751324
I've never bought into the storyline nonsense. I prefer just to think that it's just one story, retold again and again in different ways, like a real legend. That's why some plot points and characters and motifs always appear.
>>
>>382752736
Isn't it said in the lore that Ganon gave up resurrection for ULTIMATE POWER or something?
>>
>>382752826
Actually this is a cool explaination for why the characters are the same but the stories are different, if ever so slightly. Like how fairy tales get twisted when they are retold I guess you can think of the Zelda games like a legend retold many times over and over
>>
>>382752826
See the problem with that line of thought is that there are clear-cut cases of continuity. Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, and the DS games are just explicit sequels to Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Wind Waker respectively. And Wind Waker itself has its entire story hinge entirely on the plot of Ocarina of Time, to the point where if you assume that it actually has no relation then you're left with gaping plot holes. Then you have games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword that don't have hard connections to any other games but still have shit that doesn't make sense out of context like Demise promising to reincarnate over and over again to thwart Link and Zelda, which is a complete non-sequitur if you don't believe in continuity.

The timeline is weird, doesn't make a lot of sense, and it's best to not pay it that much heed, but the whole "same story told over and over again" theory just doesn't make sense.
>>
The first pack is worth at max $5. The next pack better be good to make up for the 20$ cost
>>
>>382753771
I really like the trials and would pay like $5 for randomly generated rooms like that. So far the rooms seem rather deliberately designed, which I like, but I like the eventide concept more.

Kind of like chalice dungeons in bloodborne, another favourite of mine
>>
>>382753771
I reckon it will be. It's a whole new quest. I can imagine Nintendo will use the whole map of Hyrule rather than keeping the player in one isolated location. I predict it will be a good 10-30 hours of content. Screencap this.
>>
>>382754031
You seem very optimistic huh?
>>
>>382754031
after this barebones DLC I doubt it, besides the monolith soft employees responsible for the world design are too busy with xenoblade 2

>>
>>382754560

>>382754554
Why would they need to design the map again? Just reuse it and rebuild the ruins, and add some more towns. They don't really need much input from the xeno team anymore
>>
>>382754560
It's the best because it's one of the largest and feels the most like what we expect from Zelda dungeons.

Same deal with the balloon platform and bombs shrine in the literal hole in the ground in Tabanta (seriously, could they have picked a worse spot to hide such a great shrine?)
>>
Really enjoying Master mode. I'm starting to fear if the trial of the sword will be too hard
>>
>>382754867
Does master mode boosts the enemies in the trials too? If so you're in for a treat.
>>
>>382751984
Some of the shrines are locked behind doing the divine beasts
>>
Would you guys pay full price for a Sheikah Shrine Maker game where you can create and share your own Sheikah Shrines online, including overworld enemy placement like in the Cave of Trials?
>>
>>382754748
I think you're seriously underestimating the talent of monolith soft when it comes to world design, Nintendo would probably shit themselves without their help

>reusing assets

>>
>>382754994

Sand Seal Race and Warbler's Nest
>>
>>382755178
They don't need world design any more though, they need town design, which they can do

And yeah assets will be reused. Likely they are going to recycle most of the landscape
>>

Each piece of Barbarian gear adds a level of Attack Up. It's the same Attack Up boost that you get from food, and it caps at 3.

One boost is 20%, two is 30%, three is 50%.

Ancient Proficiency gives an 80% boost to Ancient/Guardian weapons that stacks with food.

Make sure to upgrade the climbing gear to level two if you haven't done so.

Climbing is slow and boring, and the rain just makes it even more annoying. Nobody wants to have to stop what they're doing to have to find a spot to start a fire and skip time just to climb. It doesn't help that the rain and climate are almost entirely detrimental to the player in general once you get past the neat factor after seeing it a few times. It's not difficult to understand. The climbing gear is a wasted opportunity.
>>
>>382747080
If you just want BotW, then cemu is by far and away the superior option at this point.

>>382757514
It doesn't even rain that much in the game. At worst you get the sort of sunny showers that last a minute or two. Unless it was a whole lot of rain I would just plow right through it. You can figure out the most effective way of climbing in the rain by timing your jumps right. If there was too much rain and I didn't want to bother, I'd just teleport somewhere and do something else.
>>
>>382757626
It's literally ok when everyone else does it!

But yeah, you're right.
>>
>>382757162
For just BotW alone, if you want all the content, it will now cost you upwards of $210 for the game and dlc.
Considering most of that dlc price wise is also physical day one on disc content, it becomes even more absurd. Then there's the announcing the season pass before the game is even released.
Nintendo, one of, if not the last, bastion from this gabrage, caved and implemented the same type of cancerous practices that plague the industry. In some cases they can be considered even worse. A shame after MK8 dlc made me so optimistic about the future.
>>
>>382757828

>upwards of $210 for the game and dlc.
That's a low estimate. I believe there are more than 10 amiibo at this point or at least in the near future. It also assumes you can find all those amiibo without being scalped.
>>
>>382746573

>>
>>382757514
Why do you feel you can't be outside in the rain?

It's not like Link catches pneumonia or something like that.
>>
>>382757460
They don't have to let themselves charge up front though. They can literally wait until the second pack is out and reviewed.

It's like people complaining they "had" to play half a game with Broken Age.

>>
>>382757796
To be fair, some locations rain almost nonstop.

>You can figure out the most effective way of climbing in the rain by timing your jumps right
There's no real timing there. It's just climb three steps, jump and slide back down. It only works if the climb is short or if you have a ton of stamina items and want to waste a ton of time.

For mist exploring it's not an issue but when trying to climb a moutain or explore vertically it's starts to get really annoying really fast until you get Revali's gale. Even then spamming that only has limited effectiveness because you have to wait for it to recharge.

All I'm saying is that if they can include armor that helps you find Koroks they could have also added armor that helps negate rain annoyance instead of cosmetic easter egg shit.

Sure. But just sitting inside by the fire for days seems unreasonable. It rarely rains for more than three hours at a time. And even that isn't common. Well, maybe in some regions it is.

>>382759550
You can review anyrhing. Literally. You can review one chapter of a book.

It's not always about whether you get value for your money. Most of the BOTW DLC are disparate elements anyway, and they get ad revenue from people going to their site to see if content of any sort is good.

It's not really a mystery why they would review it.

Pick one, I like the game but it's only good if you want to casually explore or 2. Question, is the Amiibo content good? Never really into them but the gears seems nice.
>>
>>382759817
>pick one.

No, I'll pick three. BotW has gameplay that is emergent.

Whether it's good is a qualitative assessment.
>>
>>382759817
Not really. It's most just cosmetic stuff.

The best amiibo is probably the wolf link one from Twilight Princess. It gives you a doggo companion to help in the wild.

But even then you're not missing much.

Fuck them seriously.
The worst thing is that they are literally killing gaming at this point. They released a 7/10 game that is basically "Ubisoft's Zelda" but everyone praises it because it's Nintendo and now every game will go even deeper into the open world meme and repetitive gameplay because Zelda did it.

Strat for the floor is to first use the Thunder Rod you just got on the previous floor to disarm them and grab their weapons.
Then never finish your combo attacks, only the last hit of a combo does the heavy knockback, if you keep them on the platform they won't do the annoying water spit.

And the "upgrades" were damage sponges in the original game, so what the fuck makes them suddenly not damage sponges (and damage bloat) now? Especially with HP Regen.

True, but I don't see how they supposedly have tons of pontential.

>>382769159
I include korok seeds to be fair and because they are everywhere. The problem with shrines is that even though the puzzles may be different, they all share the same themes, they're all very easy, they all have the same outcome, nothing new or exciting ever really happens with them. The buildup to unlocking a shrine tends to be more impressive than the shrines themselves, but that's mitigated somewhat as well because you know the outcome is just a shrine with nothing in it.
>>
>>382769301
So, shrines? Divine Beasts? Did you skip 99% of the game? Do you hate Zelda games in general?

>same rewards
Some have unique armor sets in them to be fair, but I'm really not sure how they can have 100+ unique and meaningful rewards
>>
>>382769430
Different anon but what they could do is give enemies a variety of abilities like Diablo (resistance to slashing/piercing? should force you to have a variety of weapons), I agree with your first point on longer dungeons. I know it's a lot to ask but if they had a standard Zelda dungeon length then the game would be even more insane. I understand why they were short though.
>>
>>382769628
I like the shrines and divine beasts mainly because they are over quickly unlike the longer dungeons, and you have breaks of freedom in between. The shrines are also better imo because the tools needed are switched up between them unlike dungeons

Complete bullshit. Why lie on the internet?

>>382769275
They could improve on a ton. Combat needs to be completely overhauled. Link needs to be granted more non-mandatory items and abilities. Shrines need to be non-existent and integrated seamlessly within the world. Menus and inventory need to be overhauled, korok seeds to expand it can fuck off. Come up with better collectables than korok shit. More towns/villages. Far better story. Far better dungeons. Far more monster variety. So on and so forth.

The one thing I think BotW got really right was how interesting the world looked and SEEMED. But once you dig under the surface, you're doing the same things over and over again, and for what? To better prepare you for a final "dungeon" that you can waltz right into with little effort, just to tackle an even easier boss with an extremely disappointing final form?

Absolutely not. It should be climax, the pinnacle. The moment that brings together and validates all your time and effort. Yes, the journey is a reward in and of itself and the sum of its parts, but the destination is every bit as important and shouldn't be skimped. It shouldn't leave you scratching your head and wondering if the true final form will show up before the sinking realization dawns on you and the credits roll.

I give older zeldas, particularly N64 and older, more leeway for obvious reasons. They also always contained a unique and interesting item and boss among the more notably clever elements.

The shrines were nifty at first, and the sheer number of them is impressive, but they are extremely limited. I understand why they did it this way for BotW, but I still didn't care for it.
>>
>>382770915
This. I have an i5 and 980 and get a solid 30 fps with 2k after I let the shaders compile for a few minutes. I bet the game will be 100% emulateable by August
>>
>>382769958
I'm sorry. Do you not do shrines and korok seeds over and over again? Nearly everything you posted in that list is a cherry picked one off event. I'm almost certain you listed every single sidequest, minigame, and notable thing to do in the world in an attempt to pad it out.
>>
>>382771647
Wait they don't count?
>>
>>382767491
I really like the thunderblight fight. I did not expect to see such an enemy in Zelda desu
>>
>>382771670
>mostly all you do is shrines and korok seeds over and over again
Mostly. My point was that shrines and korok seeds dwarf all other tasks in the game and almost entirely encompass what you'll see and discover that's of any real significance.
Yes, you'll come across sidequests (with the end result often being a shrine), or the terrible minigames (fuck stasis golf), but mostly, you'll be seeing and hunting down shrines and korok seeds (unless you don't care about those, then it's just shrines).

It's a good thing the world is pretty.
>>
>>382747770
>How should he refer to himself then?
less
>>
>>382771974
Korok seeds really don't dwarf all other tasks, you spend considerably less time on them. Shrines I can agree with

Golf is also somehow fun to me? I liked all minigames except the paragliding one cause it was boring. I wonder if it will change with the floating platforms?
>>
>>382771647
>Nearly everything you posted in that list is a cherry picked one off event.
Er, yes. They're unique things to do in the game.

> I'm almost certain you listed every single sidequest, minigame, and notable thing to do in the world in an attempt to pad it out.
That's only a small amount of the things to see and do in the game.
>>
>>382771974
So a large part of a Zelda game involves puzzles? Whodda fucking think it?
>>
seriously I just want to know what the fuck are you shits doing with the korok seeds that they take up most of what you do? The puzzles take 10 seconds max
>>
>>382767491
The elephant beast was great desu
>>
>>382766325
Wait people react different to tingle costume? What are their reactions like?
>>
>>382772101
It's more sheer number of them and how often they're encountered. If you leave them be, sure they don't feel like much, but if you go after them, some can take a fairly good chunk of time, at least that of any standard shrine. It's not often, but sometimes.
Damn, you liked lining things up with stasis? I'm impressed. I was pretty hyped for that ability, but I really hated it during certain points in the game, especially since it wasted durability. I still remember a certain shrine, trying to get a certain extra chest.
I was pretty disappointed with the minigames in genera. They all felt pretty uninspired to me and often involved slow or frustrating tasks.

>>382772191
Nothing wrong with puzzles. The thing is how those puzzles are presented. They're in predictable, easy to beat shrines that dole out the same reward every single time. I'm of the opinion that they should have been a natural part of the world, not small rooms that all end up feeling the same after a certain point.
>>
>>382772837
Yeah, it reminds me of golf games as a whole. Like lining up a shot and judging now much strength you need

Also why would you go after korok seeds, really. You don't even need that many of them.
>>
>>382772423
The lead up is the best among the four
>>
>>382772102
I'm not arguing that.

Willing to admit I'm wrong, but I can't really think of anything significant left out of that list and I beat pretty much everything aside from a handful of shrines and an assload of korok seeds. If I had to, I would say something like taking pictures for a guy who wants to date you while you're secretly in drag, but those kinds of events sound more fun than they actually are, as they typically just involve you running from point a to point b or fetching some item. I enjoyed the puzzles in shrines more than that.
To me, Tarry Town is the best thing you have on that list.

Does the master mode upgrade the bosses as well?

>>
>mfw master trials in master mode

there is a special place in hell for the piece of shit that greenlighted this, there is challenge and then there's fucking tedium, I shouldn't be forced to spam bombs on an enemy stuck in the corner because there aren't enough weapons to kill it in the room you are, fuck this piece of shit.
>>
>>382774706
Use bombs. Eat yellow heart foods before you enter
>>
>>382770559
Agreed.
Items like the double hookshot would feel amazing to use in this world as well. Items like that should only be acquired after some serious trials and tribulations, but it would feel so worth it to actually get. Hell, a lot of older Zelda items could be integrated into the game to grant fun, but not absolutely necessary to proceed effects.

That would be aces
>>
>>382774706
Cook and eat some attack or defense boosting meals before you enter. Potent meals will give you a good 30 mins boost.

Use bombs to blow up trees for wood. You can actually cook wood and eat it. You won't get much from it but might keep you alive.

And never underestimate how handy korok leafs are for blowing enemies off high platforms.

>>
I instantly went to the desert to get the trap clothes and now I'm doing some stealth mission that gives you like 30 banana's(not really sure why when they react the exact same way to bombs as they do to banana's).

Would it be viable for me to get detected and kill all of them so I can get their weapons? It's what I want to do but last time I tried the guards teleported behind me and nothing personal kiddo'd me and I don't know if you can even avoid their attacks. Their swords look cool as fuck though.
>>
>>382779265
They move towards the banana, do they even do the same for the bombs?

The guards are quite hard to take in groups but it is doable. You can just use electric arrows to make them drop weapons
>>
>>382779357
They move towards the bombs and pick them up yeah.

Using electric shit is a good idea actually, I don't have electric arrows but I'm sure I can fanagle around with the electric slime bits to do it.

Is it doable with 4 hearts and no armor? And is it worth doing?
>>
>>382779265
You can fight them, but the big guys and the arrow guys will both start ambushing you near roads after you complete the place.
>>
>>382779613
>4 hearts and no armor
not like it matters, since the big guards get the magical ability to oneshot you even with 15 hearts and 40 armor

How do you guys do it? I got bored so fast with the shitty quality content. It was all just scenic that offered no reward or value outside the starting plateau.

Honestly, its one of the few Zeldas I would never play twice or 100%, and the furthest from what I like of the series. Its like an early access game with survival elements, and the player has to make his own "fun" without any incentives except knowing you have to run for 30 minutes to the next point of interest that will 100% be another mediocre shrine you complete in 5 minutes for the same reward you got the last 60 times.
