What are the best VR games?

Assuming you pirate VR games, try out To The Top, Climbey, Airtone, Awaken, Cosmic Trip, Arizona Sunshine, Superhot VR and John Wick Chronicles for my personal favorite gun feel.

Most the games I play are on Oculus, so I'm picking out ones I know are on steam.

Dreadhalls is a pretty good horror game now with motion control support. Superhot is great too but you already have a lot of shooters.

If you get revive, Robo Recall and The Climb are pretty neat. Wilson's Heart is a pretty long story driven game but the mechanics get pretty repetitive.

>H3VR if you like guns
>Soundboxing if you like rhythm games
>Star Trek Bridge Crew if you like Star Trek and/or co-op games
>Windlands if you don't have motion sickness problems
The Doom 3 mod is also pretty cool, but takes setting up.

It is, after trying the first mission I just went back to the shooting range because it's the best part. I just like how the shooting feels, the angle of the guns and everything just kinda fits my minds expectations of how I should be holding it and where the bullet will go.
I've never fired a real gun though

There are games like Zombie Riot where it seems like you have to angle your hand all the way to the floor to get straight shots in the game.

Racing sims. You have to put another $200+ into a good wheel setup for it to be worth it, but man is it worth it.

Also flight/space sims, but I don't enjoy those as much.

Honestly what happened to VR?

It is like we got bombarded non-stop for months and now you barely see a thread.

Was it all viral marketing with the money dried up? Obviously all those reviewers got free stuff that they had to all review at the same time, but still it seems weird it all stopped.

Flight sims are great in VR, but they're good without VR too. Nobody's going to pay $1k for a moderately more immersive WW2/spaceship sim.

>He kicked VR down the valley for loads of money but at least he's trying to make amends now that he's ruined it

He only had one shot to get it right and not only did he fuck VR thoroughly, he also ruined any current or future life the fucking thing would have had. VR won't be able to recover from that anal ravaging he gave it for another 15yrs at least.

He royally flubbed it. He fucked it to death. VR should have begun as a cheap, free and open venture. Anyone with common sense should stay away from the money sink known as VR.
>>
>>382743835
The Climb does not work with Revive yet for some reason. Well according to the compatibility list on the github anyway.

I wish there were a few more dedicated websites for VR where they are not afraid to show the porn games in VR, actually finding them and working out how to get them running is just painful.
>>
The demo for Budget Cuts is bar none the most fun I've had with a game. As far as full experiences go, Vanishing Realms and The Gallery are probably your best bets. Elite:Dangerous is incredible as well if sims are your thing.

If you're willing to pick up Vorpx, things open up a lot more. They aren't perfect since it isn't native support, but Fallout and Skyrim are games I didn't enjoy at all in their original forms that become incredible. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a no-brainer if you like sims. There's a Half-Life 2 VR fan project going on that will probably be the best thing available once it comes out (which is supposedly soon).

Something probably did go wrong and it was a choice between bumping the price up or releasing a cheap headset that wouldn't work.

>>It will be open source and free to create your own games on it (lies)
It is open source. Support is built into engines like Unity and UE4 and the site has a developer center with all the code you need.
>>
>>382750405
I equate it more to Oculus as a company. If you read into the Oculus x Zenimax things with John Carmack, as well as how that relates to Valve, you find out that Oculus basically stole nearly everything that makes the Rift work. Oculus is now paying for it, as well as the people who chose to buy a Rift over waiting for the vive

I feel like VR is really starting to get a number of good games, just not enough to justify purchase yet. If it had one or two genuine, notable killer apps I think it would be a good proposition.

At the moment I'm running a small team trying to do just that though. We're building a ~10-12 hour horror game built specifically for VR that we're pretty confident in. We've only really just started on it recently so it'll be quite a while before anything is ready to be shown, but I'm really hopeful it'll help convince people to get into VR.

One thing we've noticed, especially with the horror genre, is for the average user it just gets too much after a while. Normal horror pacing doesn't exactly translate into VR because most games have too little downtime, or non-intense moments. Intense scenes are radically more tense in VR. Instead of increasing downtown for tension building, our game instead adds a third emotional state - joy. We're trying to create a mix of joy and fear and calm that serves to ease up the intensity of long form horror gameplay that's made almost all of our testers quit sessions, while also enhancing the intensity of shorter bursts of horror. So there are moments of downtime that build tension, and horror like usual, but also moments of genuine peace and wonderment.

If it's just constant horror and tension for 10 hours, it just becomes exhausting and draining for most people it seems. We've noticed longer play sessions with bigger responses to the horror aspects of the game with those extra sequences. Working everything into an interesting dynamic is definitely challenging but hopefully it'll all work out in the end.

I just wish that the Vive had more "traditional" full games like the Oculus, I imagine its because they developers only had traditional controllers to work with.

Even though the gameplay is nothing all that thrilling the sense of scale in Edge of Nowhere and Chronos really stood out and both of them felt like they would be able to stand up without the VR. Aside from possibly Vanishing Realms everything on the Vive just feels like a tech demo.
>>
>>382752246
but it can play Oculus games
>>
I don't know if to bother with a third oculus sensor or not. I already have the two high up and spread out. Still manage to block it on some roomscale games though.

I've seen setups where you have two senors on opposite sides but is that reliable?
>>
>>382752246
You actually like Vanishing Realms? Also, just get Revive and you can play oculus games on the vive
>>
>>382752401
>>382752438
Yeah I like Vanishing Realms its just a nice chunky solid RPG with nice enough shield and sword/bow combat.

I do have Revive and its how I am playing the Oculus games I mentioned. Which is great its the best of both worlds, I would just like to see something natively produced for the Vive taking full advantage of its slightly better capabilities.

have you checked out kingspray graffiti simulator?

i recently went to check out the veev at my buddy's house and bought it for him because it was 7.50 on steam sale and i am now very seriously considering buying a vive (probably used from somebody else). i used to go paint trains when i was in high school (yes, i was a faggot edgelord) and the idea of just being able to get really ripped and listen to music and just riff ideas without having to ruin my house, commit a misdemeanor, or buying a bunch of cans and a mask and stuff is really, really appealing to me.

fuck all of these other VR games that shit is all just gimmicks that will fill up maybe 3 hours and then be stale and shit.

>>382747501
>>382747636

is literally the only other reason to purchase a vive, and even just regular google cardboard+phone VR porn is literally game changing. if you aren't too much of a chad to get over the "muh stigma" of VR porn and just accept it for the fun that it is, it's one of the more lasting reasons to get an Oculus or a Vive.

probably wouldn't buy it JUST for 3d porn games though. when I get a vive for kingspray, VR porn will definitely become part of my use of the platform.

shooting guns irl is way more fun and will give you a whole new outlook on the game if you go.

just go check out your local range, i'm sure they have some pistols and stuff for rent. just put the clip in the gun and pull the slide back to put a bullet in the barrel. make sure you test fire it while looking into the barrel to make sure there aren't any obstructions before you start shooting.

Best MMO for VR?

I have VorpX so it supports alot of games. Even if they're not fully optimized for VR, I still want to explore/level using my Vive.

I'm guessing ESO since it has decent first person. I can't imagine WoW in VR would be fun to play, though exploration would still be cool.

has anybody looked at doing omni-directional treadmills like the virtuix omni? (even though the fucking orthotic retard shoes look stupid, the mechanism is miles better than shuffling around in socks like the cyberith virtualizer or w/e)

i think that's the major component missing from making truly groundbreaking, immersive VR experiences that can be entire games rather than just tech demos.

right now i think the only real-deal games that are full-fledged and fun to play are games that require a cockpit of some sort, whether that be driving sims or space sims.

one idea i thought would be interesting would be an RTS like that supreme commander game (i think it was supreme commander) where you are basically sanding or sitting outside the globe and you can use the motion controls to rotate the globe and order troops and stuff around. really any RTS. i think first person games that require walking are dead in the water until you can work in whole-body motion.

I want to believe it's like comparing Pong to Witcher 3 or something.

I think there is enough hype from gamers, developers (especially big ones) and even non-gamers (Facebook?) that thinking this all is just the early days of the "next big thing" isn't just wishful thinking on my part. It's just going to take time.

>>382766156
It really is tho. Skyrim is a game that is almost perfect for VR, and we're lucky Bethesda is a both a big developer and interested enough in VR to dedicate a team to porting it.

There aren't many big companies investing in well known titles for VR. Skyrim VR is a good thing, both for the platforms to progress and for gamers.

The 2B model is pretty good.
>>
>>382768715
It'll get there. This is just the start of it. As >>382768558 says, VR really is a new medium.

I think there is enough interest from big developers and non-gamers alike to move this thing forward, and that'll make all the difference in the world. I mean, freaking Facebook bought Oculus Rift ffs. And big name game developers know what this is capable of, and they're excited, they're just not investing in it until prices come down and more people own it.

Its also at a point where people are talking about it in mainstream media. Conan O'Brian featured VR on several episodes of his show...Let's Players on YouTube are making videos of VR and showing it off to their viewers.

It's just going to take time, and it's going to kinda suck waiting for it to really become mainstream. And for the time being we'll just have to deal with meme loving fucks like in this thread.

>>382771337
Leap motion is a gizmo that tracks your hand, letting you track your wank and align your motion with the model in Waifu Sex Sim.

Costs about 60$, though I think with the VR bundle its about 90$ The VR bundle comes with the stuff you need to mount leap motion to your headset.
>>
>>382771014
>Not enough people currently own VR to get major developers to put out products like that.
Obviously major developers are out of the question for now, but "games" like Project Lux can be done relatively cheaply and turn respectable profits. The sort of experiences I'm looking for are basically that on a slightly larger scale.
>>

Is there a tutorial for
>letting you track your wank and align your motion with the model in Waifu Sex Sim
?

>>
>>382771705
The model's sex animation moves with your hand. Well to be more precise, there's a constant sex animation but you can select a 'bone' on the model's body that lets you move her with your hand. Essentially aligning her movements with your own.

It feels very good at convincing your brain that you're having sex. Funny thing is you can just keep doing that and your brain doesn't get very quickly fatigued for something else, the POV and that synced movements just feel so damn good.

https://youtu.be/Gdxoxz_COS0?t=4m36s

That's a demonstration of it. Just imagine you're actually grabbing your junk in real life while grabbing the model in VR.

Sometimes, though once it knows what your hand actually is it seems to track it very well. Once your hand comes into view there seems to be a period where leap motion assigns it as your hand, and once that is done there is normally no problem unless your hand goes out of view, which should not be problem if you're sitting down.

Never really had much of a problem with it during vr sexy time.

Welcome, just keep in mind waifu sex sim has a bit of a tiny learning curve thanks to the bones being named in japanese. Most of the important 'bones' that you can grab tend to be on the first options of the menu though, it's just a small learning curve that requires some trial and error.

Having a gun is only half of it. The other half is ammo and it's not unheard of to blow through near a hundred bucks in one go, the cost over time adds up. Plus if you want an automatic to dick around with, you'll need a local sheriff or judge to personally sign off on it, then wait 3-6 months for the FBI to run a background check on you, then spend $300 on a tax stamp (on top of whatever the gun costs)

>Flipping switches to power up
>Throttling up to stump forward
>Access targets and waypoints on touch screen menus and readouts.
>Grip arm controls to aim cannons or swing a melee weapon (with realistic delay)

that's honestly all VR needs

one steel battalion and it will have all been worth it

I don't know, it seems that they wanted a finished up project instead of something experimental. Which makes no sense in a student competition. The winning project was pretty polished but it was a fucking slingshot sim with no movement. There's hundreds of VR games like that.

I'm not butthurt about our project not winning, but there were other projects more polished than ours and still more innovative than the winner. These deserved a win.
