Dark Souls presents very little to gamers who don't value combat above everything. I think people give DS a lot of praise because it was made in a time where casual games flooded the market offering little difficulty, and then this game was advertised as difficult akin to NES classics. I had a lot of fun playing the game, but I don't think it's anywhere near great. It's so easy to dodge attacks and boss fights don't feel challenging as long as you level up correctly.

I don't know whether it's the best game of the decade, even souls fans can't decide wich one in the series is the real classic. But what if certainly know is that it's the best piece of game design we have received since memory serves.

I just mentioned two things and souls has more to offer, but really this is what makes it so great. it's the right design at the right time.

Combat is the last thing DaS1 has going for it. It's monotonous garbage, if NG3 (no RE) was automatically set on the hardest difficulty, then the same Soulsfags would praise it as well.

The best thing Soulsborne has and admittedly does very well is design and world art. They just happened to create a shitty dungeon crawler on-top of it.
