Why do idiots assume that when people say the 3DS is going to be killed off, they think they meant instantly or right away? No business savvy company in the world would tell people to stop buying their hardware, they want as many people to buy their old hardware as possible before it disappears completely. As time goes on, the 3DS will get less and less games with actual effort put into them, more and more ports instead, and ultimately, less and less games overall, all the while they push people to buy a 3DS by making them cheaper and cheaper due to different variations. If you knew Nintendo half as well as most people do, you would know they've been doing this for YEARS whenever they can:

If the "core" pokemon titles coming to the Switch REALLY is a mainline pokemon title, then that is the biggest message to 3DS fans ever that the system is being discontinued. Looking at it in a vacuum, 3DS' library is only sporadically superior to DS in direct comparisons (Zelda and Kirby both had better 3DS games than DS games) and is missing large parts (unique Megaman and Castlevania entries for a start) of what made DS as great as it was.
