If you can't see the differences, you need a new fucking monitor.

Or stop using your shitty TV as a monitor.
>>
>>382712737
I'd like to hit your face with a wall for posting this
>>
>>382712737
No, there's just room to improve in other areas than just character models.

Environments still look like absolute ass once you stop looking at them from a distance, and half of the props in games are 2D cutouts that look lifeless upon any sort of inspection.
>>
>>382712737
We're definitely hitting the point of diminishing returns. However, things like draw distance still have room for immense improvements but the "close" detail in games is probably already at the limit.
>>
you're probably hitting a wall all the time since you're obviously blind
>>
>>382712737
Yeah I don't give the slightest fuck about graphics and haven't since I've become an adult in the past decade. Art style matters more than graphical quality, and gameplay and mechanics more so than that.
>>
>>382712737
>jews
>dlc
>sjw shit heads who can't code

Take your pick, it's all cancer killing the industry.
>>
I can't really tell the difference in the Xbone, PS4 and PC parts.
>>
I hit a wall when I play Thi4f

I actually beat the whole game and most side quests because I got it in a humble bundle and it was fucking shit.
Wasn't unplayable though
>>
>>382712828
His point isn't that there are no differences dummy. It's that graphical leaps have gotten smaller and smaller as technology advances. There will never be as big of a leap as the 5th-6th-7th generations.
>>
>>382712973
>>382713012
Isn't that more a money issue than a hardware issue at this point

The differences are mostly in shading, but expect people to call you blind because you're not a nitpicky neckbeard.
>>
No. There are almost infinite art styles out there, we haven't come close.

>clearly the textures are higher quality
>more details in the model
>details in the skin
>details in the eyes
>reflections
>physics in the clothe
>particle effects
>texture overlays for dirt/rain/mud/dust

But do go on talking about shit you don't understand.
>>
>>382713071
Xbone is too dark, PS4 is too light. PC is the perfect blend.
>>
>>382712737
No, blame the push for 4K and for 60fps for stalling out progress.
>>
>>382713438
Good God you're fucking stupid.
>>
>>382713192
Pretty much. Games are already so fucking expensive to make and they take a long time too. Probably doesn't help that it seems that the simpler games make the most money, not to even mention micro-transactions/DLCs, so investing that much money to a project is probably a hard sell to many devs.

Improved AI and physics when?

Or will people just try to reach ''''''''photorealism''''''''?
>>
>>382713192
It is a money issue. Why spend money on having a designer spend a whole day texturing and mapping a fucking corner in the wall?

It's not that we can't have insane detail in random areas, it just doesn't make sense from a developer/publisher standpoint. The only people who would truly care are those who autistically take screenshots of stupid shit.
>>
This thread is bad.
>>
>>382713529
Are you trying to goal post away from your blindness?

Because that's what it appears to be.
>>
>>382712737

moores law is dead

pc processors arent getting faster, the gap is almost non existent now.
>>
>>382713192
I'm not sure. I think if you made a level the size of White Orchard for instance using the same graphical standards you have for character models, games would likely struggle. Just a hunch though, I have no idea how much the standard gaming rig could actually run,.
>>
>>382713648
Be the change you wish to see.
>>
We should just go back 15 years in terms of polys a model needed. Enough detail for things to look like things, not enough so that modeling a character's ears is a bigger focus than good levels or coding
>>
>>382713542
Improved AI should be the next big thing. I can't wait to someday fight AI that are indistinguishable from human players.

Water physics is something I look forward to as well, but that's dependent a lot on processing power.
>>
As much as people bag on it and as bad of an example as you posted, yes. There's a reason graphical fidelity increased so much and that's because we had like, 3 polygons per layer or something and now we have thousands. There's a good picture showing off what I'm trying to say but I don't have it. I think now it's just polishing them up, and then making better effects for like, particles and shit.
>>
>>382713542
for most genres, good AI was solved years ago but devs realized that players don't care as long as they're winning.
>>
>>382713461
pushing for 60 FPS is not a thing unless it's a MP game, don't even bother bringing in PC gaming because that's irrelevant, games support fully unlocked FPS these days when they're on PC. consoles are the frontrunner of games and most devs definitely don't give a fuck about 60 FPS

Except that is very very wrong.

He doesn't know that Intel has slowed their production to allow AMD to close a gap to not generate a major monopaly on the industry

It's the same for graphics cards. Years ago people expected big gains because it wasn't a huge market. It was very niche.

Now "PCMaster Race" fags have pretty much killed the PC growth industry, the same way the automotive progression did.

Why make major updates for small costs, when you can make small updates people will eat up every year or two.

It's big business.

You aren't trolling, you are being retarded.

Also, the only reason skyrim keeps getting rebooted is because dumbasses eat it up. Not because the progress is slowing....

Fucking summerfags.
>>
Lighting and shadows are too often neglected, compared to textures and models. They have a huge impact.
>>
I think there is still little bit of wiggle room for enhancing graphics, but really what needs to happen is optimizing them for better perfomance.

amd has recently released their 8core/16thread chip, and their about to release their 16core/32thread chip later this month and 32core/64thread chip later this month. i'm pretty sure in 5 years 16 core will be the standard and 128 core or something will be in the very high end.

>>382712737

On Pc yes, the worlds keep getting more and more complex, detailed and the textures keep getting bigger, but that doesn't mean its better.

Having perfectly photorealistic graphics would look absolutely silly without the other two.

Physics would probably be the best in most scenarios, but AI would work better for some games.

>>
>>382712737
We're certainly hitting the limit when it comes to the benefit of higher resolution textures.

Who really cares if we can see every pore on the latest AAA character's face? Being able to actually read the text on signs or find passwords hidden on sticky notes without a separate dialogue box, those were things that made the performance impact of larger textures worthwhile.
>>
>>382715720
Who are you quoting?
>>
>>382715720
No, I "literally actually" didn't. Asking if there's a wall isn't saying that there are literally no differences in the example image. It's asking if diminishing returns is becoming an important issue. Stop being a moron.
>>
>>382718485
>there are no differences dummy
>>
>>382718897
Changing the meaning of a sentence by quoting half of it isn't saying anything.
>>

>>
>>382712737
Seems like the real question is why the same game is being sold for older and newer consoles

I haven't owned a console since PS2, isn't the entire point of a new "generation" to have new, more powerful games? How can games be released for PS3 and PS4 at the sametime?
>>
I remember when Assassin's Creed first came out and retards on /v/ were talking about uncanny valley. Every new gen people always think we've peaked.
>>
No, when a $600 budget build runs these non static as actual games at 60fps then we've hit the cealing.

>Dark Souls 1 on PC looks as good as Dark Souls 3
>>
Depends what you mean by wall.
The wall we've hit is an economic one, as in we've hit the limit of what people are willing to pay. Most people aren't willing to pay beyond the price of a console to game with, hence the stagnation of current graphics.

The technology for even better graphics exists already, but few are willing to pay to take advantage of them, which in turn means fewer are willing to develop games with state of the art graphics.

Yes diminishing returns exist, but we're nowhere near the point of photo-realistic graphics.
>>
>>382713102
I also got it in a HIB, but I couldn't make it past two hours. I only paid a dollar for it and I still felt fucking ripped off.

You whiny shits blaming everyone else for your problems only makes you look like a baby. If you want to feel superior, act like it.
>>
More like multiplats are made to look similar by design because the publishers don't want their products to vary wildly since it'd be bad for business to be unreliable and the shareholders will get mad, as they always do.

So they drag everything down to the lowest common denominator, which is why so many people hated how long the previous gen of consoles lasted, since it shit all over everything. Also releasing content earlier than it should be to make the most profit while reducing spending on things like QA because idiots will buy the latest franchise increment or youtube/streamer meme game even if it's total garbage that has been rushed out the door.

Also cherry picking bait.
>>
>>382722187
>SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>382712737
The reason is console gaming.
>>
There's still games that look great graphics wise, but it's getting to the point where it's no longer a "Wow" feature of a game. Basically a game looking nice is only a minor feature where as before some games were sold pretty much on the sole fact that it looked great.

We've been going this course for awhile, but aesthetics will be what's more important in games in the future rather than pure graphical capability.

The new "Wow!" factor WILL be when gorgeous games no longer have pop-ins/blurs/stuttering shadows etc. all while keeping CONSISTENT 60 FPS and without needing to buy expensive hardware. Only until that point where it's common and cheap to be playing 1440p at 60 FPS will the next surge of wowies begin.
