As for why Izuru couldn't have met any of the Despairs during the tragedy, he specifically erased their memories of him and his memories of them so that it couldn't influence the simulation battle between Hope and Despair.

It was important to him that the Despairs and himself go into that simulation ignorant of each other. That means it's extremely unlike that he met any of the Despairs after that.

So, boom, Mikan couldn't have met and fucked Izuru otherwise it was narratively pointless for him to specifically erase their memories of him and his memories of them.

Kyoko to Makoto is basically if Mia never died in AA and solved all cases for Phoenix in the background at all times, except conveniently messing up on the last step just so Phoenix can seem useful. She's literally a plot device in character form.
That having been said, the one thing in DR3 that I liked was showing that Makoto and Aoi were a good team.

It's weird because as straining as DR2 was at times, it's easily my favorite along side UDG. Most of the things I like about characters from DR1 are things that happened after DR1. They weren't good as a team. For plot reasons Makoto couldn't run around and needed someone to carry him around, that's all Aoi did. Kyoko or even Hagakure would've done the exact same thing if they were with him instead of Aoi.

Kyoko did come off as a bit mary sue-ish at points but the main problem was Makoto himself. A character that, 3/4ths of the time, does nothing but stand around in the background while characters get drawn to him solely because of his MC status and says nothing but telling everyone to have hope while suggesting nothing practical is hard to work with. Not a Hajimefag either before someone says that's what I'm doing, he's shit for a completely different set of reasons too.
