Proceed to build a PC as usual but without a GPU.
Then find a second hand GPU and try to lowball it.

Why the fuck are you even asking this?

Wait a couple months. The prices will go down again soon.
Investing in coin mining this late is fucking retarded and a lot of people will have massive losses. Laugh at their misfortune while you dont have a gpu.

It's literally as simple as buying nvidia. Anyone with half a brain knows that nvidia cards can't even hold a candle to AMD cards in terms on mining power to due their architecture. There is no self respecting miner using nvidia.

As a result there is an abundance of nvidia cards opposed to all the taken AMD cards.
>>
>>382680375

>Inb4 but nvidia are more powerful

Yes, they are. It's just AMD cards are better for mining.

Intel iGPU will allow you to play many games comfortably as long as they aren't graphical behemoth.

Considering nvidias success as it is it would not surprise me if nvidia would try capitalise on the current trend by creating an artificial scarcity just for a reason to bump up their prices higher than they already are.

On top of this the craze in coin mining has likely created a wave of miss informed noobies who don't understand these things and are just buying any GPU Willy nilly.

He ain't bullshitting you. Typically you use your GPU to 'mine' cryptocurrencies, and many people make GPU farms to mine lots of crypto

Using the example of Etherium, the price for one coin was ~$11.50 per in February. There was a point in the last month where it crested nearly $400 per
>>
>>382688430

I see some used ones on CL in my area around the ballpark of $200-$250. How risky is buying a pre-owned card?

>>
>>382690845

Just wait
>>
>>382690794
Not an actual crash, but this fad will die down sooner or later. At this point it already isn't worth buying a card for mining anymore. Wait for the market to be flooded with loads of second hand cards.
Also, beware of those second hand cards because they've been running 24/7
>>

Here is my forecast for the years to come.

>gpu company go where the money is at so they make better gpu
>jews decide to crash the bitcoin market because jews
>we have stronger gpu than ever but nobody to buy them because the demand stopped so you can get a pretty decent gpu for pennies
>>
>>382691457
The markup isn't happening at the manufacturer level.
>>
>>382691457

It's basically the scam that was being run in office space, but on a global scale with digital currency and it's totally legal.

A 3D GPU can do it fucking fast as shit. That's literally the only reason. GPUs are way faster than CPUs.

>According to this calculator this gives you a whooping 0.00000629 BTC per day. Which means it would take about 435 years to mine a single bitcoin. And that computation is not even worth anything because it assumes that the difficulty will remain constant, which it won't.
That's a report from 2014. Encryption has undoubtedly gotten more complicated by orders of magnitudes since.
>More realistically, it means that in 1 month you would produce 0.00019130 BTC which (at the current market rate of about 350$/BTC) is about 0.07$. Leaving your rig up and running continuously for 1 month will cost you much more that 0.07$ in electricity.

For the most part, yes.
But since noone can buy GPUs for gaming, they're increasing in price simply because they're in demand.

I'd normally go on about quitting your second(or first job whatever makes you more unhappy) but you probably heard all this before, so I'll just be a philiosophy-fag and quote Epictetus:
"Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants."

Get a flat that is big enough for you, but doesn't cost you too much. Pursue some hobbies. Spend time with friends and family. Spend money on stuff that makes you happy.
After you balanced out your life you can improve society simply by being a nice dude. Greet your neighbours. Offer old people a seat in the train/bus. Buy a black-coffee for the completely wasted guy in the club to give him a chance to find his way back home before he blacks out. Fuck the fat girl. You get what I'm saying.
Didn't Kreia from Kotor2 say something like "the slightest push, the smallest touch, sends echoes throughout life"
I wager that this applies to real life too. You'll still encounter an awful lot of assholes, but if you stick to simply being a nice dude that does lots of tiny little things you'll live a happy life.
I apologize for this massive amount of moral-wannabe-faggotry, but you seem like a nice dude having some kind of existential-crisis
>>
>only jews can save now PC gaming.

>>
>>382696961
>my market is better than yours
No.
However the GPU manufacturers do need to deal with this, by either seperating the markets somehow or they'll find themselves outmanoeuvred by a third party(Intel or S3, both can reenter the fray at whim(money), they don't need to license dick, since they already do)
If nVidia and AMD can't supply the gaming market with GPUs, someone else will make a GPU that works well for Vidya but is terrible for compute.
Don't forget, while Mining is the main culprit, Machine Learning is buying out the market too.

They won't. GPUs sell at inflated prices too.
Mining craze just set new pricing standards,
these will stick.
In the future, midrange GPUs will cost $600, high-end cards $1000, low-end $400.
Regardless of mining.
Because PCobeses have nowhere to go.

it's easier than you think.
1) Block the protocol used to process blockchains at the ISP level, preventing mining or funds transfers.
2) Block the same at the DNS level, preventing mining or funds transfers.
3) Poison the blockchain with a cluster, grinding all payment processing to a halt, and preventing verification of valid blockchains.

How does mining cryptocurrency work?

You just set up expensive computers and they generate money for you? The fuck?
>>
>>382700024
Right well a common argument against PC, irrelevant as it is, but still a deterrent, is that good PCs are more expensive

But if you thought just a good PC was expensive, you'd be stunned at what you'd need to set up a cryptocurrency farm
>>
>>382700045
They process math computations to verify funds transfers, and this occasionally generates a "coin" by stumbling upon a magic hash to crack the encryption of the chain.

Its distributed computing, so multiple people compete for the same key, or they band together and split the "coin" when and if they find it.

Ethereum miners are pure cancer. Really, cryptocurrency miners are all degenerates, but ETH especially.
I check youtube one day and all I see are fucking livestreams of ETH miners giving away "totally working" GPUs they traded out from their farm
Why the fuck has it gotten so big? And I still don't understand why Bitcoin suddenly became so popular when its existed since fucking 2010. Even /biz/ used to say it was shit.
>>
>>382679360

It will crash again hard. It is a matter of when. Fleabay and used market will be flooded with "lightly" used GPU at fire basement prices.

The only winners in the whole Cryptocurrency Maina are earlier miners, resellers and electric companies.
>>
I just want to know what the hell are the gpus actually calculating. Cracking credit cards codes?
>>
>>382700914

It is a pseudo-Ponzi Scheme. The earlier miners are trying to suck the normies into the hype before the bubble bursts hard.

Resellers are just taking advantage of supply and demand situation.
>>
>>382694381

This. I still have the same Sandy Bridge 2500k i5 I've had since 2011, and I only have to change the thermal paste every other year.

Other than that, only things that change are RAM, MOBO, power supply (which lasts on average about 4 years), GPU every other year, and thats it.
