>The X can do more than your simple restrictions because it HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES IN GAME and its fucking science fiction.

Such as? Name me one other time that wasn't an obvious, obvious fucking gameplay abstraction like the scientist MYSTERIOUSLY NOT STRIPPING NAKED BEFORE TRANSFORMING.

Your in-game proof is literally nothing. You can't find a single thing backing you up except one sprite that has artistic reasons behind operating like it does. Let me break it down for you: Nightmare doesn't come out of its shell because it's SCARIER that way. The melting design is much more frightening than, say, if the armor burst off and it looked like an orange turd with eyes. Not knowing lets the imagination fill in the blanks and is a time-tested method of establishing a scary design, more than showing unnecessary details that makes it look goofy. This is why the scene with the Xenomorph crab-walking was cut from Alien, and that's why you never get a full shot of Nightmare. Again, it's a fucking abstraction. Like the fact that it's on a 2d plane; clearly, that wouldn't be so in the real world. But the game is depicting a version of events that's a carefully crafted experience, that sometimes requires concessions to be made from what's shown and what is actually happening. For instance, the Omega Metroid is stated to have been destroyed by the gunfire from Samus's ship, rather than the Ice Beam alone. But this is obviously not the case in gameplay, because it simply wouldn't look as good as a final confrontation would. In addition, the Omega Metroid changing colour as it's damaged is not literal, but just a gameplay abstraction showing damage being taken by the creature.

Is this clear enough? Because I can make a chart, I know autistic children such as yourself like charts. Very literal, easy to understand.

Also, it's a fucking The Thing homage. It can't copy metals. The theme is body horror.

A hive mind or group mind may refer to a number of uses or concepts, ranging from positive to neutral and pejorative. Examples include:

------Collective consciousness or collective intelligence, concepts in sociology and philosophy
------Groupthink, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome
------The apparent consciousness of colonies of social insects such as ants, bees, and termites
------Swarm intelligence, the collective behaviour of decentralized, self-organized systems, natural or artificial
------Universal mind, a type of universal higher consciousness or source of being in some esoteric beliefs
------Group mind (science fiction), a type of collective consciousness
-------Egregore, a phenomenon in occultism which has been described as group mind

Its almost like the term hive mind is a generalization for the two concepts were are BOTH talking about.

Fuck.

Again, it's a gameplay abstraction and not necessarily representative of the in-canon events.

>The Omega Metroid is not an X creature, though?
FUCK YOUR STUPID

The metroid is a creature. OK
Creatures can sometimes change color at will. OK
No one knows the full extent of metroids abilities because the science always goes bad. OK
the X are infact made or organic material. OK
the armor around the security bot is shed when the core is revealed. OK
when fighting nightmare it would indeed be stupid to see the turd leave its shell. OK

HOWEVER it could have easily have simply dropped to the floor upon defeat leaving an empty husk of the main body making you think its over. ONLY to have the x-core emerge from the shell similar to the security bot. NOT REVEALING THE TURD

Get it?
Also did you know that clothing is MADE OF ORGANIC MATERIAL, and many of the shells found on creatures are as hard as metel yet completely organic? That creatures can in fact change color.

So maybe, just maybe, that "shell" was really the X creating a natural carapace, that was colored like metal, that reverted with the X only after losing its weaponry and more.

So now do you understand what I am saying?
The X dont need to replicate metal when organics can already surpass it and look exactly the same.

So now tell me, where is the proof for either side? Because both are valid.
So fuck off because I just explained everything in a completely valid way using in game information. None of this "its just a game so it doesnt matter" bullshit.

Reboots are complete shit. Instead of trying to fix things, or at least attempting to keep cohesion in the first place, devs just go "Oh well, our story is a clusterfuck because we have no forward thinking whatsoever. Guess we better throw everything that made fans like our games and just start on a clean slate, haha"

Sakamoto has got little to do with it. It's more on the idea that if you made a mess out of your story, try to untangle it instead of throwing the entire thing away. Otherwise, it's basically backstabbing the fanbase.
>>
>>382678832
This actually is good. I would be okay with these three merging, it might mean they actually get consistent games.

It's pretty good. And if you fuck up the earlier phase hard enough, which is pretty difficult, the eyebeam can actually just outright kill you instead of leaving you at 1 Energy.

I can already tell you aren't an actual creative mind, because any creative will tell you reboots are 99% of the time bullshit that just piss off the original fans and almost never bring in new people. See: constant reboots in movies that people are sick to death of.

Metroid still has amazing gameplay to this day and the story is simple enough to understand, plus the designs are timeless. What you really mean to say is shit like Federation Force and Other M need to be considered non-canon spinoffs. There's literally nothing wrong with the series outside of those two bad eggs, so a reboot isn't warranted at all.

Fusion is a very controversial title for its linearity. It doesn't make much sense to say that scripted sequences were always a part of Metroid because the one game nobody can agree is good used them.

But even then, I loved Fusion. The important thing to remember about Fusion is that none of them have flashy contextual actions. During all the setpieces the same rules apply that do during normal gameplay, and you're just as vulnerable. Very few of the scripted segments wrest control away from the player, which is why they're involving rather than distracting.
>>
>>382682101
Does that mean the ending of Super Mario Galaxy created a new continuity for every Nintendo series? This could get complicated.
>>
>>382681608
this is the first time i've even seen those, and while they aren't terrible, they are different than the "cinematic" effect of the mother brain fight.

for the counter scenes, you have no control over what you do for the time it's happening, I.E. it takes control away from the player, rather than letting them do the damage themselves.

If it were something like knocking the enemy back leaving it vulnerable for a few seconds, allowing the player to shoot it freely, that would be better IMO.

>The metroid is a creature. OK
>Creatures can sometimes change color at will. OK

Okay but what you were saying is that it should be expected that Metroids should be able to change colours because some creatures can, and thus the X should also be able to. Aside from the fact that the amount of creatures who can change their colours is actually pitifully small, why should Metroids and X share that ability when there's otherwise no crossover between abilities at all, and it's never once shown that Metroids have that capability? Why can't you admit it's a gameplay abstraction, like things flashing when they take damage?

>HOWEVER it could have easily have simply dropped to the floor upon defeat leaving an empty husk of the main body making you think its over. ONLY to have the x-core emerge from the shell similar to the security bot.

But that would be in contradiction from the other behaviour of the X, and Samus already knows the X have infected Nightmare because Adam told her so it wouldn't even be a surprise to see the Core burst out. However, the B.O.X is explicitly stated to not be infected despite its organic components on your first meeting, so the X is a surprise there.

>The X dont need to replicate metal when organics can already surpass it and look exactly the same.

The Nightmare had the weapons grafted onto the shell already because it was a bioweapon. So the X creating a shell around it doesn't hold any fucking water at all, especially when you count that the armor has a propulsion system in it. In addition, Nightmare being able to form a metal shell around itself naturally doesn't make any sense considering that Nightmare is a slime creature that was made in a lab. There's no reason it would have had those powers, nothing biologically to facilitate that unless it just has unseen telekinetic powers, and nothing design-wise to support that given that the armor is clearly of the same make as the weapons systems it was given by the Federation.

They already concluded the story of phazon. This isn't about childishly bickering about what's possible or impossible in the metroid universe.
It's about not making retarded mistakes. They know if they make another chapter about phazon people will groan, dismiss the game, and ridicule them.

Samus would probably be a fugitive on the run, now being labeled a terrorist by the Galactic Federation in an effort to conceal their Metroid cloning practices.

Let's say she gets shot-down on a rogue planet. There, she finds an unsuccessful GF facility overrun by failed clone specimens. The specimens are various synthetic evolutions of Metroids. Samus has to survive her descent into the facility with GF forces pursing her all the while. The game would conclude with Samus uncovering a cache of classified information about the facility and using Adam to transmit a massive leak that discredits the GF and throws the galaxy into political turmoil.

Zebes was destroyed, and the corruption of the Galactic Federation is canon. Sequels can't ignore these facts, unless Nintendo decides to do a reboot.

There's nothing wrong with my idea. Samus will explore an underground facility and pockets of the surrounding subterrain while fighting metroids (or at least bizarre mutations of metroids)

It's mostly consistent with the series' main themes.

Honestly SR is more faithyful to the original than ZM was. More than half the rooms were changed in ZM by adding extra height or width when there was extra space but a lot of am2r is extremely similar to the original for more than half of it then the rest is as changed as ZM

It's going full retard with warriors though, heroes is one thing but at least it was the only spin-off the only light heartedly tied everything together in a FE multi-verse just so you could gatcha them, but then they had to go and make another and make it even worse than the mobile game as far as setting and original characters.

Fusion isn't about the exploration, per se, it really is just the ideal Metroid action game, so I don't think that's entirely a negative. But I won't hear a bad word on the platforming, when you have horrific shit like a dedicated run button which is entirely unneeded, the god-awful trap of falling into the hole you need to walljump out of, and the general joy-sucking experience of being in Meridia in Super Metroid. Fusion's platforming is great. It's so great there's a 6-minute platforming section when the boiler is going to burst, and that entire section where you run from the SA-X.
>>
>>382693785
The actual room are very different in both but half the map of am2r is pretty faithful in layout and rooms. The other half including the new areas is much more like ZM which used every possible free space on the map to expand rooms or add more except that happened through the entire game.

it's a good thing japs aren't as reboot trigger happy as americans, they'll do it but they take a lot more into consideration and have a better understanding that a reboot can do a lot to alienate a franchise just as much as bring in new fans.

As an american I think about wether Metroid should get a reboot a lot but it's probably for the best right now that it doesn't, yes it's kinda gone off the rails and trying to get back on and you could see that as a reason to start over from scratch but by the same token nothing guarantees a reboot would be better when just taking the good parts of the story already built and adding to that is more than enough.
>>
>>382694048
Momentum is great.
Walljumping is extremely easy.
Maridia is suppose to suck and you get out as quick as you can until you get the gravity suit.

Am2r is almost exactly the same for more than 50% in actual world structure and progress if you compare the maps. There wasnt much added besides the 2 new areas and a bit more like the power core boss. The areas definitely didnt double in size and bosses like ZM. Except ZM continued with additional areas as well.

Well see if SR has the same general sense of progression in the direction you should head because they did it once already, thats what I was saying. Because treehouse seemed pretty accurate, the tunnels are just not nearly as flat as it use to be
>>
>>382696248
I've been saying this for years. Fusion is the most moody, atmospheric Metroid game, and the setpieces are where all the tension comes from, like the section in the generator and with the SA-X chase shortly afterwards.

If Nintendo wanted to make a story based Metroid to make up for all the fuck ups its made they could do a prequel game to Zero mission with young Samus before/when she gets the power suit while she's still training on Zebis, going around the galaxy as a young rebel bounty hunter for personal profit instead of saving planets for the federation, basically the manga but in game form.

Maybe start the game off before her parents are dead.

Or how about seeing Sector 5 get completely fucked up and flooded by Nightmare?
Or being completely trapped in Sector 4? That was one of my absolute favourite levels in the whole series, it's more claustrophobic than anything else I can think of.

Worked fine in HZD.

Actually, to be honest, HZD is a cool template to start with for a "Young Samus" game. I don't know if you played it, but basically there's an extended story heavy tutorial where you play as young Aloy and learn some gameplay basics and world building and eventually you "grow up" and the main game opens up from there. so instead of bonding with Rost, you'd be bonding with Old Bird or whatever that father figure bird was called.

Just add Metroidvania progression/level design and we're good to go.

Samus parents are killed when Ridley and Pirates board their vessel.

The vessel crashes on Zebes and Old Bird briefly bonds with and comforts Samus before some Pirates jump from the wreckage. He dies saving you and tells Grey Voice who was nearby but too late to save Old Bird to protect you with his dying breath. Grey Voice is a warrior Chozo of incredible prowess and honors Old Bird by infusing Samus immediately, which comes with the added benefit of regenerating her wounds that she suffered in the crash/attack and saving her life.

It could be done well frankly. Metroid 2/AM2R already has you hunting metroids and that works fairly well. Just reduce their numbers and make each bounty memorable and there you have it. The Trilogy has objectively better controls. It nerfs stuff in Echoes so you won't experience the fucked-up sicko pleasure of losing to Boost Guardian 97 times, but it's overall a better way to experience those games. However the sequence breaks in Prime were fixed, and it uses the PAL translation instead of the NA one, but the NA ones were inaccurate the the original and added stuff that didn't make sense anyway. It had some good stuff, to be sure, but the Pirates breaking the seal long enough to get phazon, CREATE Metroid Prime, have Metroid Prime steal all their weapons and fuck off again, only to have the seal close behind him again, is pure tripe.
>>
>>382705928

I fucking hate the NA version of the Chozo scans. There's no musing on "what if there are more of those?" and the prophecy of the Entrusted One is replaced with the most hamfisted "SAMUS, KILL THE SPACE PIRATES! THEY WALK ON THE PLANET!" shit in the world, like they thought Americans couldn't figure out that the prophecy of a hero born of humans bringing light to Tallon was about Samus, and that the evil ones who want to use the Great Poison for their own dark ends means the Space Pirates. The PAL version reads like poetry written by monks and cast forward into the future, and the North American version feels like a sort of vague description of the story's events without any of the subtly.. The chozo logs are so much worse in the NTSC version, I'll never get over it.

>As we struggle with the Great Poison, something stirs at the edges of our vision. It is the Hatchling Samus. We feel her, across the void, as she hunts the corrupted. Will our fates again be one? As our pride shatters, will prophecy become real? When all strength wanes from the Chozo, will it be the Hatchling who fulfills our legacy? True sight eludes us, for the Poison gnaws at all vision, leaving seers blind and filled with despair. Truth's blessing may come too late.

Compare to the equivalent scan location-wise.

>Our sanctuary grows by the day. We Chozo know much of technology, but we do not worship it. Our home here on Tallon IV will be a place of simplicity: structures hewn from the stone, bridges woven with branches, hallways caressed by pure waters. We build around the ancient and noble trees, drawing from their strength and giving them our own in return. All that is wild will flow around us here; our race will just be one more group of creatures in the knit of nature. It is our hope that such a state will bring with it great wisdom and a greater understanding of the nature of the universe.

One is clearly superior and more appropriate for 15% through the game, exploring the Chozo ruins for the first time.

>>
>>382708631
And here is the Sun Tower scan, which you find just a little before the first major boss, Flahgra.

>The world of living things feels strange to us, we who have existed so long on the edges of time and space. It is clear now that we Chozo can never return to our dimension, not while the Great Poison reaches ever further into the planet. It is so powerful, this creeping evil, that our wills are crumbling and our minds beginning to fail. And so, before it is too late, we now make our last stand. We have begun to build a temple to contain this darkness: at its heart we will place a Cipher, a mystical lock powered by twelve Artifacts and filled with as much power as we Chozo can harness in our ethereal states. Even when we are done, it may be too late.

Compare to PAL.

>The cries of this dying land echo in our ears as we Chozo watch the Great Poison seep ever further into the living pulse of the planet. The dark energy sinks into the trees and waters, devouring all life. Peaceful beasts die by the thousands - some creatures survive, but their forms grow as twisted and evil as the force that fell from the sky. Many of these mutated monstrosities remain small enough to do little harm, but others grow enormous and threaten our very existence. One such beast defiles our sacred fountain, disgorging poison from its foul form, replacing pure, flowing water with cascades of creeping death. Even in the face of such horror, we Chozo do not turn in fear. We are all that stands in the way of this Great Poison, and it is our duty to contain it.

Like, fuck. The NTSC version has no subtly and mystery to it at all, and it doesn't foreshadow the boss you're about to fight at all. It adds so little to the world and talks about something you don't discover even exists for 20 more hours.

>Test subject Z-d, hereafter referred to as Metroid Prime, was recently discovered in a cavern by mining crews. It quickly dispatched the miners, but was eventually contained by security units and drones. Once contained, we were able to begin studies upon Metroid Prime. The results have been astonishing. It is genetically similar to a Metroid, albeit on a high evolved level. It displays a limitless capacity for Phazon infusion and shows no Phazon-based degeneration whatsoever. It continues to grow in size, and while it has manifested some psychotic behavior, the cold field we use to pacify remain effective. Authorization for advanced studies on Metroid Prime have been approved.

They just found Metroid Prime, the plot thread that hangs the games together and certifiable Baddest Motherfucker Ever, in a cave. Discovered by mining crews, and experimented on by the bumblefuck Space Pirates. This isn't a particularly badly-written log, aside from being a big fat "THIS IS THE FINAL BOSS" sign on it with, again, no subtlety. It's mostly just fucked up from a canon perspective, especially later on when it inexplicably tunnels into the Impact Crater and becomes the source of the Phazon corruption before the barrier goes down and it was the energy reading the Pirates were feeling the whole time.

No, lots of people discover the Chozo Temple that has the lock. Except you don't know it's a lock until you start finding the keys for it, which doesn't happen until much, much later in the game. Metroid 5, not Metroid Prime 5?
It's a sequel to Fusion, then.

While escaping from the Galactic Federation, Adam intercepts an oddly-encoded distress signal that he has difficulty deciphering even with the ship's advanced spacefuture systems, because the information comes in more than just packets of 1 and 0.

Basically, a world consisting of around 35% organic matter from the surface inward has been infected by a cancerous plague. Most of the population has been evacuated in living ships to safety as they try to figure out a way to save their world, but the best they've come up with is that the 'cancer' is actually some sort of sentient infection, directed and controlled.

You can stay and help them, but you run the risk of taking so long that the Galactic Federation catches up with you. Or you can run and save your own hide. Being Samus, the choice is obvious.

Your mission: Find the source of the cancer plague, and destroy it. Spoilers: It's a big beastie.
Secondary objective: Search for any remaining pockets of subsurface-dwelling civilians and evacuate them.

Upon landing on the planet, your suit's self-repair module will recognize usable material for reconstructing the suit's armour as well as other modular functions - detecting the foreign Galactic Federation data and equipment as it does, and automatically purging it, much to Samus's chagrin. As you progress, key bosses will reconstruct the armour from the ground up, going through exoskeletal stages of Insect-like brown-green shiny chitin, a red-orange crustacean-like carapace with rough, jagged edges, then a purple-lavender smoother mollusk-like shell.

Agon used to be fertile grassland despite its entire terrain being to the contrary, Torvus used to be a huge, clear ocean despite all the swampy-ass land, and Sanctuary Fortress used to be the only livable place on the fucking planet. In spite of all these things, the Luminoth thought it'd be a great place to set up shop and jerk each other off while they think about the Chozo but apparently they missed the point of Tallon completely, so they actually used super-technology to collect whatever the fuck 'planetary energy' is, localize it where they want it, and use it for their own selfish gain. Despite this, they still thought they were living in perfect harmony with Aether. It wasn't until the Leviathan stuck Aether that Dark Aether was born because the Luminoth had already fucked with the planet dimensionally, and they all came their moth pants because they could finally wage another war like they always used to, and it was fun and they were super-good at it with a single Luminoth being able to kill many Ing, until they realized Ing numbers were infinite and theirs weren't, and also the Ing could possess their weapons and that was so unfair they all got salt, went to sleep and let U-Mos deal with the problem, but not before they sealed Sky Temple where the Emperor Ing was, for no reason at all.

I sort of get the feeling that Samus is threatened by Dark Samus.
A lot of people describe Samus as a badass for facing all these horrifying monsters and think she shouldn't be afraid of Ridley like she was in Other M but I don't think that's right. I feel like she's a badass because she is afraid of Ridley or Dark Samus, but she still faces them without a doubt in her mind.

Meanwhile in Fusion and Other M not only does Samus tell you "I'm scared." She gives you a whole fucking thesis telling you why she's scared and needs Daddy Adam to hold her.
I wouldn't mind a little bit of talking every now and then when it's truly necessary or helpful, but I don't need Samus telling me how much she loves Adam after every area.
I just don't get it.

By the way, if you guys haven't watched it you should see GT's retrospective on Metroid.

It's 10 years old at this point, but still very enjoyable to watch.

Here's my idea for a Metroid 5
>a few remaining space pirates and other criminals build up a deadly new faction
>pirates lure Samus into a trap
>they collect a sample of her DNA which still contains (now dormant) Metroid DNA
>their goal is to genetically modify and rapidly age Samus clones until they just get metroids
>result is a ton of fucked up Samus clone monsters that get more Metroid-like as you progress
>her Chozo DNA also gets mixed in and makes them really powerful and a bit birdlike
>the trap Samus is in is the heart of a massive, complex space station
>it was designed to be a death trap specifically for Samus
>Samus upgrades the orange Fusion suit using pirate tech over the course of the game
>upgrades modify its appearance piece by piece, it looks more sharp and bulky over course of the game, but with its own style
>late in the game you get a varia-esque power-up that polishes the design of her new suit
>new weapons Samus adapts from Space Pirate tech
>near the end of the game Samus is fighting a ton of weird clone Metroids, with a few perfect ones near the end
>in the end she destroys their cloning machines and rapid aging devices
>she finds a baby chozo and a baby metroid made from her dna
>she takes them and leaves
>rest of the series is samus on vacation in space-vegas
If you have any ideas that would make it sound better or if you think it's a shit idea let me know.

>The Luminoth had no home planet to begin with. However, after meeting other races (including the Chozo) who had laid claim to a homeworld, they decided to do the same, eventually settling on Aether. Aether, as a rogue planet, had no sun; instead of sunlight, the planet depended on an energy source the Luminoth named "The Light of Aether".
>The Light was so powerful, it threatened the planet's well-being, and so the Luminoth built the Energy Controllers to channel it. The controllers used the Light to power a teleportation system and weather control grid, in addition to many other Luminoth creations.

You and me both, but c'mon man. As long as Sakamoto is in charge we're getting Other M Samus. Make your peace with it.
>>
Morisawa: For the most part, it was left to my responsibility, but there were points on which Sakamoto-san would definitely not budge. An example that made quite an impression on me was Samus's Power Suit, and the way it changes color as its various abilities are unlocked.

Iwata: Ah yes, it changes.

Morisawa: At first it's yellow, then the typical orange, then finally it becomes the Gravity Suit, so that Samus is purple. That is Nintendo's official specification, so naturally we started making the final Power Suit in purple. Towards the end of the game, however, there are some serious dramatic scenes. As Sakamoto-san was watching one of these cinematics, where Samus appeared in purple, he said "why is Samus wearing purple?"

Iwata: He said that, even though it had been the specification from the very beginning! (laughs)

Morisawa: Yes! (laughs) So I told him 'she's wearing the Gravity Suit, that's why she's purple'. His response, however, was 'but it looks strange to have this purple person popping up during such a serious conversation'. It would then become an exchange along the lines of me saying 'But this is the specification!' and him responding 'No, no, definitely strange'.

Iwata: Ha ha! (laughs)

>Fusion Samus is not the bed wetting baby she is in other m.
No, but she was still Adam's bitch even if she didn't know it and would not shut up about him.
Be honest, Anon. Did you enjoy not being able to fucking backtrack or get the power-ups YOU wanted?
Did you enjoy Microsoft Adam telling you what to do every step of the way? Samus herself was fine, she didn't fall to her knees and started crying when she saw all the baby Metroids, but Fusion just felt like a prelude to the mess that was Other M.
>>
>>382714601
Morisawa: So we'd consult Kitaura-san as well, but he'd also say 'yes, purple really is strange'. All I could think was 'Huh?! So what should we do now?' These kinds of specifications had been there from the very beginning, from before my time, but they'd just say 'No, we definitely want Samus in orange here'. I just groaned and put my head in my hands.

Iwata: It sounds like you had the ladder pulled out from under you. (laughs) So how did you resolve the situation?

Morisawa: Basically, I brought out various color patterns, trying to push them back towards purple a little bit, but they couldn't agree to that, saying it was orange they wanted. In the end, therefore, we decided to indicate that the gravity features are attached to the suit by making the green lights on Samus's chest glow a purple-like pink when the gravity features are unlocked.

Iwata: So in other words, the suit color stayed orange, but the color of the lights on her chest changed to a purplish pink?

Morisawa: Yes. We explained this clearly in the manual, but as the person entrusted with the visual settings of Metroid: Other M, it just didn't sit right with me. Then later I remembered working on Metroid: Zero Mission for Game Boy Advance in the past. At that time one member of staff came to me and said 'the specifications for the previous game say this, but this time it's a little different, is it ok?' That time I was the one who'd gone against the specifications.

There's a difference between going to specific parts because there's urgent shit like a reactor meltdown and escaped death machine vs pointlessly risking death because she wasn't allowed to use her varia suit.
