I only ever see threads to worship zelda and shit on Horizon but honestly both could learn from eachother

Horizon could use much better exploration in the same way BOTW had it, and i mean in the sense that yes, you are exploring an open world, but what you're really exploring is how that world interacts with itself and.. well, basically, you explore how to explore in BOTW. Whereas I felt the combat in Horizon:ZD is endlessly entertaining. Every single time I boot the game up something insane happens to me while I'm minding my own business galloping to check points or something. The variety of monsters is awesome, the combat feels good at range and melee, upgrades are fun to get, etc. I think if we got a sequel to either that emulated the other, we'd have a near perfect game.

same can be said of any game, it's nearly impossible to have a task that isn't ultimately fetching something or killing something - that's why the context and execution of it is the important part, rather than the objective itself. But even then, not all quests are fetch/kill missions in XCX: some missions require you to talk to various characters in order to resolve a political problem, for example.

I think they spent most of the development time figuring out the engine of the game, and trying to make the world feel real, then adding the dungeon like beasts and shrines. Now that they have a grasp of their engine and it's limits/physics, they can probably easily add dungeons to the next game or unannounced DLC pack if there is one. It's gonna probably be a lot like a Majora's Mask to Ocarina situation, though with a longer dev time between the two.
