There aren't really any games with 'great stories' but Tactics Ogre LUCT and Front Mission 2 are pretty good.

It was still a pretty good twist though and the way wiegraf was tied into the storyline later was pretty sweet. but yeah after that (ch 4) it loses steam since vormav, etc just werent as interesting villains as he was

For what it was (anime game) Disgaea 1 had a decent story at the time its too bad every Disgaea after had shit stories.

I agree that the writing isn't anything worth noting, but I'd argue for these kinds of games the grand sweeping scale of events and the big impactful moments are what make them good for a vidya story - for example, the Yied Desert and Belhalla massacres are really memorable for me, even if the actual dialogue during those events wasn't memorable
