Federation Force wasn't even that bad. It was just released at the worse possible time. When they were actually showing it off (when Bill talked about how some people had some questions about the game) they should have said they were working on the Metroid 2 remake. If they said that all that anger people had for the game would have been washed away. They would have looked at that as people look at Triforce Heroes. That was the idea that was discussed. It's basically as you said, samus is dangerous as fuck, has metroid dna, chozo dna, technology and weapons enough to destroy a space station, and she's on the run from the feds.
Last week someone played with the idea that in Metroid Prime 4: Dread you play as a clone of Samus with implanted memories, working for the federation to track down a "high threat entity" and at the end of the game you fight the original Samus in her fusion suit armed to the teeth and you have some sort of identity crisis or something.

It honestly had me fucking excited, and it makes me infinitely sad that it will never be real. It'd give us Metroid 5, but in turn they would also have an ending with no possibility for continuity once again.

Fusion is fantastic, and so is its suit design. The amount of work they put into the character design documents shows this. I think they were merely trying to redirect some of the abundance of attention the Varia suit gets by making it the ugly one. The Gravity suit looks beautiful and feels cool to play.

Clearly what they should do is find a way to strike a balance; the suit is biological in nature and can generate armour plating.

Maybe start Samus out with the Fusion suit and instead of fully new suits, let her unlock suit parts or variations; she could get either body parts that can be arranged in different formations or entirely separate "Hulkbuster"-esque speciality types.

You refill physical missiles and other high explosives by picking up the left over energy from fallen creatures. There you go. You raise good arguments about the gamey mechanics, and obviously the "lore" behind many Metroid games is flimsy at best. But the bottom line is that the appeal of a robotic suit is a combination of science and fiction elements. Good sci-fi always has questionable results springing from complex technology. The lightsaber's workings are dubious, but they're also fleshed-out and intricate. It would be disappointing if the beam were just magic instead, because technology is just fucking cool. Going balls-to-the-wall fiction with magic suits is boring, because it's lacking the exposition that allows us to make the link between what we're seeing (crazy advanced technology) and what we know (mechanical-based technology). Mecha would be real lame if the suits were just magic. Even the EVAs have explanations for why they're affected by emotions, and an entire entry ritual dedicated to making that cool.

It's a shame that Nintendo didn't run with that idea MORE, actually. A Kirby meets Metroid, where you're absorbing abilities of aliens before boss fights in order to alter your play style or give yourself an advantage, sounds kind of fun actually. Not only that, but Samus was kind of a criminal at the end of Fusion. At least, that's how the suits would see it. It would have been cool to see her on the run from the Feds, if Nintendo had ever had the guts to move on with the franchise and turn one of their main heroes into a fugitive.

S1 itself was never hidden though its the least secure part of the station

Yes, basically the suit is a magical girl powerup that's contained in her back in other M. It's summoned by the will to fight or some shit, and when she sees ridley she literally has a break down and the suit disappears, even though in series this is like the 3rd time shes fought (and beaten) ridley and the first time she had absolutely no problem.

If that was the only reason people hated other M I'd say it was a little overblown.

Their reasoning for her not using all her abilities is because "there might be civilians around" so she has to wait for adam to tell her shes allowed to use them. This of course makes no sense because it becomes obvious three seconds in that the place is entirely abandoned except for like one person, but at least it makes sense for things like missiles and power bombs that can eradicate all life in a room instantly. Like maybe don't use that shit when other people might be around.

HOWEVER, at one point she goes into an active volcano, and doesn't turn on her heat shielding till after she kills the boss there and adam tells her to. That's right, she just had heat shielding the entire time, and its 100% defensive and has no other ability attached to it, just immune to heat, and she doesn't use it in a fucking volcano because adam didn't say simon says.

Adam kills himself towards the end to kill all the metroids that are now immune to ice "their one weakness" and it's made to be like a super touching moment of sacrifice, but it turns out theres just like a billion metroids on the regular ship still, also you can just kill them because they are weak to a whole bunch of shit. So his sacrifice was entirely pointless.

The game arbitrarily will lock rooms that you just came from, so you can never go back for the entire game. And they use waggle wii controls to shoot missiles and make you inspect random pixels a million miles into the distance for no reason, with no prompting of what you are looking for...

Thats not true at all, you have ZERO knowledge of how many planets the chozo touched or colonized. Just because 1 faction "ascended" doesnt mean there arent more leftover ruins outside federation space.

I meant the ship was built around the SR338 parts to hide their Metroid research by making it seem like an all-purpose bioweapons lab when, in reality, the majority of it, stuff like Serris and Yakuza, held no value as a weapon. Something like Nightmare is arguable if they could control it, but most of the creatures on-board were devoid of any real use as bio-weapons due to general frailty or ease of defeat like the Arachnus, or ultra-situational use like Serris or that one plant thing that gives the Plasma beam.
