pick one, if it was fighting types only, then it'd defeat the point of even having pokemon, since the average fighting game character can do all the same bullshit fighting type pokemon do, if not even more fantastical stuff.

Fighting types are interesting in pokemon BECAUSE they are mundane and still strong, but that's only interesting when they are mundane relative to things that are wierder. If it's all just them then they are just generic martial arts mutants.

You have no idea what you are talking about. It's a competitive, traditional 2d fighter, it's no more different from stuff like street fighter, mortal kombat, or king of fighters are from each other.

It has attack heights, multiple attack buttons, cancels, crossups, resets, oki/wakeup game, neutral advantage/disadvantage states, and the game is more mindgame/setup/mixup/bait focused then most fighters, plus it has extra mechanics they typically do not have on top of that. The only thing that seperates from the typical competitive 2d fighting game other then pokemon is the phase shift shit

It's got just as high a skill ceiling as any other competitive fighting game, and certainly a fucking higher one then shit like SFV, since pokken actually does the "make it accessable for newcomers without sacrificing depth" thing without dropping the ball on the last half.

The roster is great, i've never understood this complaint. Pikachu, mewtwo, zard, and lucario are obligatry shillmons. Gengar, Gardevoir, Blaziken, and Garchomp are all super popular pokemon. Weavile, Sceptile, Machamp, Scizor are like the next tier of popularity right under those, Braixen, Chandelure, Empoleon and Crogunk are super popular in japan speffically, and Suicuine and Darkrai are the most iconic legendaries outside of stuff that's 2big for a fighting game.

The only bad picks are libre instead of hawlucha and shadow mewtwo in general. Other then that it covers every demographic possible with a variety of fighting styles that play super different and nearly every type

It is mechanically, completely in line with traditional 2d fighters. Litterally the only ways it differs from that subgenre is that it has 6 attack heights, not 3, and each move has 2 height traits, an offensive and defensive one rather then just offensive; that attacks beat grabs rather then grab teching existing; and the phase shift mechanic.

The fact you dispute this is how I know you know jack shit about the game and have only seen footage. The 3d arena gameplay shit you see in footage is a specific mechanic that's meant as an anti-infite system that forces a return to neutral, and it reverts right back to traditional 2d gameplay after a single hit happens.
