It's time to discuss the best Halo.

I beat it on Veteran on PC and the first Flood level was very satisfying. The shooting in general is great. The pistol/shotgun combo really works. Also the cover still makes MC look like a dinosaur.

I think I enjoy some aspects of 3 a lot more. 1's overall campaign is probably better, but 3 has a few big battles in single player that basically define the direction Halo should have gone in after.

Halo 1 is still the multiplayer me and my friends go back to when we actually get together.

I know a lot of people thought 2's campaign was better, but it was nowhere near as memorable as the first game's campaign.

CE's level design does it so much damage. Even in SC, which is a fantastic mission, it still suffers horribly from how repetitive the copy pasted interiors are, and even though it's the best level with exteriors in terms of scaling, it still suffers from the exteriors being too big for the sake of it at times too.

The fact that thwere's barely any weapon or enemy variety just makes CE that much more repetitive and tedious as well.

are just some examples.

Just admit it's because you played CE first and it introduced you to the franchise. Objectively, 2 did everything CE better both in terms of MP and campaign, aside from weapon balance.

Halo 2 is better. Halo 1 had some downright tedious level design where they blatantly copy and pasted the same environments. Assault on the Control room and The Library being the most egregious examples that I remember. The Library needs no explanation but half of assault was crossing the exact same looking bridge going with the exact same rooms connecting them. If my memory serves me correctly you had to do this fucking twice coming back in a later level. Though there were definitely some standouts like Silent Cartographer which almost had a sandbox open world feel to it. I would have loved to see more levels designed like it.

I love how it starts with a random ship coming out of slip space with a small battle group of long swords. They talk about their alien adversary and how boned they are, but they never cowered. They dug in and fought like hell.

That sense of adventure really isn't matched by any of the other Halos. Games in general don't really stride to do that a whole lot these days.

The entire series has lore Trek-worthy lore. The story is as unintrusive as it could be yet is rich and fulfilling when you pay attention.

I enjoyed it personally, going through The Arbiter's perspective. I thought it all tied up nicely in the end.
