The potential Melee has as a fighting game is limited by its core design. No special move will be as useful as shine, and special moves will always be more of gimmicks than tools. Smash will never be that to Sakurai, and Nintendo should never make a game they don't want to. I fucking love melee, hate sm4sh, and practice autisticly, but you have to understand this is a ride that leads nowhere. Being a meleefag is suffering.

That's not a 'core design' issue though, that's specifically due the the properties of the reflector and how few actual disadvantages Fox has. This could be fixed, but the mod teams so far have been against doing this and so just try countering it with more bullshit.

But if shine makes fox feel like a more exciting character, nerfing that would ignore the core problem of the special moves. Fox and Falco are the only characters to have a special move that isn't always useless. Nerfing wouldn't address this issue, and the alternative is readjusting the characters to the point where it's hardly Melee, and more something else.
